June 24, 2017 Stark County Ohio Fairgrounds demolition derby. A red flag and at the 44 second mark a driver starts to get out and another car hits him.
unless your car is really on fire you shouldn't just jump out of you car unless you're 100 percent sure all cars are stopped. just because they are waving the red flag doesn't mean everyone saw it.
Can we just take a moment to say the red flags were still flying when the guy tried to get out of his car?! They were both at fault in this situation. I feel bad for both of them.
Only people I feel bad for are the guys waving the flags they’re out here like “I do one thing and that’s wave this flag to let y’all know when shits going down and neither of you listened” the flag wavers are like middle children in the 70s (no one gives a fuck about em)
Scary stuff. But you have to remember it is hard to hear with a helmet on. loud screaming engines. An useless non stop chatter over the loudspeaker makes it very easy for a driver, who is already pumped with adrenaline to not hear them or to drown them out. Add smoking steaming engines into the mix making it hard to see. All greatly increases the chances of this happening. Having a proper announcing system and speaker locations plays a large role is having a safe derby track. This track has ZERO inward facing PA speakers.. Along with proper lighting (which they clearly lack here) and proper red flag warning devices. Which they also lack here. Not to mention they are short flagmen. If you go to @0:19 when the camera pans left. You will notice they are lacking 2 flagmen on this side of the track on the other end. An have to many on this end.
I wouldn't say the driver was 100% at fault. You can't hear ANYTHING in those cars and if cars around you are still moving, which they were on his end of the track, he thought it was still "go time". I would never get out of my car until I am 100% sure everyone is aware the red flags are out. The only time I would get out in a hurry is if there is a fire inside the car, which doesn't seem to be the case here. Sucks for both of them, I'm sure he felt like shit once he realized what happened.
The thing is, you also need to pay attention to your surrounds and take note of the waving red flags. Red Flags mean you stop moving, and there were plenty of red flags waving around the pit.
Why the heck did he get out? Just because they are waving red flags doesn't mean it is an automatic kill switch to all the vehicles. My 1st derby I was so nervous. I just held my foot to the floor and shifted gears till it broke. The other drivers could've been the same way. Tough to watch.
Unless you've ever ran a derby car you have no room to talk. You can't hear anything and most the time see anything outside the arena. And the guy getting out of the is at fault. He should've been smart enough to stay in the car till everyone was stopped
Obviously some people don't know what it's like to be in the car and to see and hear what the drivers do, you can't put the blame on anyone in situations where drivers don't see the flags or when they don't hear the horn..
Either the driver that accidentally hit the person getting out either he did not hear the announcer say hold it up and there is no check workers at the side that the driver was starting to back up into the driver getting out
Dude best watch his back on the way home. Cause if that were my family member I would be taking plates off my car right now and be on the look. Fuck that dudes was wreckless and could possibly be charged with some type of assault charge the dude knee the match was stopped. It was 30 seconds after they first waved the red flag.
Everyone said kick him out but when ur in the moment trying to focus on the next hit and with ur car all messed up u jave more blimd spots there for i belive it was all by accendent and the dude in that car that got hit he shoulda waited to get out till he seen everyone stopped i dont think the guy shoulda been taken out in my opinion
So the orange car was kicked out for what reason???? The guy in the white car was unbuckled before the flag even came up, they waved the flag because he was attempting to get out smfh. I'm confused how the orange driver was at fault when other cars was still flying down the track even after the driver was knocked to the ground. Can't fault one side here when its clear both was in the wrong
It's a demo derby at a dirt track....with probably inexperienced demo derby drivers. So 99.9% sure it wasn't on purpose and kicking a running car out was dumb on the tracks part.
And then i think it was the next year or the previous year he ran a 77 montiecarlo and his transmission caught on fire and whelp he woulda been a crispy critter
Jake Browne I’ve been running derbys for 6 year now. I assure you it’s never been done at any show. And never will be. That’s technology that people would not pay for and don’t want in there car. It’s a derby. Not monster trucks
no he doesn't once heat has built up and that's why some competitors turn up the idle I wouldn't want anyone shutting down the engine its not a for sure thing that it will restart a more simplistic way to go would be one way receivers placed in the helmet so the officials can communicate with you that's how many local short tracks go and it makes the line up so much easier
