The demolition process of a building in Hualien that was tilted when the earthquake hit Taiwan started on Friday. The 10-story structure called the Uranus Building, which housed a mix of homes and shops, was thrown dramatically off-kilter by the quake and appeared to be on the verge of collapse. #taiwan #earthquake #news

That's some impressive construction. Yes it fell. But the fact that with that much tilt it's still holding together is amazing.

That's what I was saying. Its shock was hard and quick and the foundation just broke off from the structure.

I can't believe how well built this structure is, other than it falling over. The windows didn't pop and most if the brickwork stayed on, amazing. Hats off to their building codes. This building's replacement won't fall over the next time!

As far as I understand, the building codes were altered in order for these building to with stand a certain amount of earthquake drama. Apparently, the building codes were substantial altered since the last earthquake had. You will have to look up the exact year, I cannot remember, possibly 1969?

Those are apartments, no? I sure hope someone got people's most precious things out before demolishing it. It's already bad enough they lost their home, but to lose everything you had..that's devastating.

@@kealeradecal6091 You are very professional, especially since Taiwan is an island. Even during heavy rain or typhoon season, soil liquefaction will cause buildings to sink, causing disasters.
