Demon's Crest: Communication Breakdown - PART 4 - Game Grumps 

"Art" is just the result of a creative process. Throwing actual shit on a canvas is art and makes you an artist, it just makes you a really bad artist. Sitting around arguing about what kind of art is or is not "true" art is folly because it's so massively subjective. Being an artist does not imply that you're good at anything, it just means you produced something tangible with your own imagination.

Lady Gaga killed JonTron as a Grump, which started the American Civil War in Victorian England, until Christopher Columbo, a hardboiled detective who wasn't afraid to ask the right questions asked if Game Grumps were ever going to finish a game.

Slavery wasn't abolished by Abraham Lincoln. It was abolished in the Vienna Congress in 1815. Lincoln is merely the one who finally made the USA comply to international law.

Jon REALLY needs to read a history book.....Arin does as well. Also, Fame Monster is her best album. It's so good.

Fun fact, the civil war was not actually started to give slaves their freedom. Northern factories just could not compete with the south's low cost of labor from slaves. It really had nothing to do with human rights which is sad.

Speaking of movie trailer songs that were used endlessly I was hoping Grumps would get around to mentioning "Walk around the world pretty baby is it everything you hoped it'd be?" That song was in every freaking movie trailer in the 90's and will be forever burned into my mind, I don't know who did it or what the song was called but I will always know that first lyric.

Arins ultimate cop out: shit all over something and then say "I'm not saying it's bad." he uses that defense so much. Who knew fucking Demons Crest would make me question if I like Arin or not.

This is something I don't miss, Jon and Arin's pointless arguments that go for like half the video and most of it continues to happen because they mishear or misunderstand the other and it just keeps spiralling til nobody knows what they're talking about anymore. Never happens with Danny.

I used to listen to Lady Gaga as a joke but the more I listened to her, the more I started to really like her music. Fame Monster was the first album I heard and it is fucking great! I actually bought Artpop and that is also fucking great! Never really listen to Born This Way. In a previous series, Jon said it was good so I took a listen and I really liked it to. My Spotify feed is filled with a lot of Gaga. I get where Arin is coming from with the CityVille deals and all that but its not a big deal. How a musician decides to promote their music is all on them. Its not a deciding factor whether I'll listen to their music or not. And if musicians wants to call themselves an "artist" or what have you, then ok. I'm still gonna like their music. They could call themselves whatever they want, just as long as they continue making music that I enjoy. I learned to really like Lady Gaga and appreciate her music. Unless she drastically changes her music, to the point that I don't like it. Then that's a different story. But for now, she could do or call herself whatever she wants, I'm still gonna enjoy her music. Also, kudos for Jon for defending Lady Gaga!

Conversations like these make Demon's Crest the worst series in the entire Jon era.

I tend to just not like most Avaunt Garde artists because I struggle to really call them artists... not because they do weird things, but because a lot of it feels disingenuous. Like, you can be as weird and crazy and as pushing-the-envelope as you want if you feel these things genuinely, but a lot of the time it feels like a circle jerk of who can be the weirdest and a desperate attention grab than real passion, because, like Arin said, it doesn't really have meaning to it, or at least feels like it can't be dissected to represent something deeper than "it's just weird". It's created just to shock and grab attention, even if it's only for a moment. If you don't genuinely care about what you're doing OVER the attention you're getting for doing it, then I don't see how you can call yourself an artist... Of course, all artists want a platform and want to be heard, but when no one will listen, we don't stop creating because creating is what makes us feel good and gives us purpose.

The boss at around 9:24 looks like a mix between Ridely from Metroid and the blue and red skeleton guys from Contra III.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. Duchamp's "Fountain" sculpture is just a urinal with "R.Mutt" written on it, but that doesn't change the fact that it's art. People have been arguing over this shit for ages, and they will continue to forever. The most intelligent thing to do is to acknowledge that anything can be art. Whether it is "fine art" is another story, more worthy of argument.

Jon doesn't abandon his opinions in favor of Arin's. Jon is the type of person who will go into a conversation or discussion with an open mind, and if he realizes that his opinions are flawed after hearing a differing perspective, he'll willingly accept that his views were askew or misguided and either alter his own opinion to better suit this new understanding or acknowledge that there are two perspectives that are equally valid. Ie. the way people SHOULD treat their opinions.

This is the most fair game I have ever seen. Notice how during bosses, for the most part, they only get hit by a specific attack once. Then you know it's there and what it does and can dodge it. no RNG bullshit. wish I had played it as a kid.

The civil war was fought over economic troubles with the north and south. The south, due to slavery, was able to produce a ton of raw materials which the north bought for pennies on the dollar. They then processed these goods to make it usable and sold it for way more to the south and overseas.

You are half right. The states seceded from the U.S because they knew Abraham Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery. The main issue of the civil war was in two halves: one, the states forming their own country, and two, partly about slavery. In the end though, it was mainly about how the seceded states were rebelling and how the U.S needed to stay together. But hey, you're half right, so you have a point.

The Civil War was not about slavery. It was about Southern secession (mainly South Carolina) due to the tariff of abominations and other unfair laws that unintentionally damaged the Southern economy while benefiting the North. The North were based mainly on manufacturing and thus didn't import much, while the South had to import much of their manufactured goods because their economy was entirely based on agriculture (cotton, tobacco, corn). Therefor, the tariff crippled the South.

Arin's whole personality in the Jon era is essentially "I instinctively think everything people like is stupid but I can't articulate why".

I find it funny that that Jon and Arin fight over a lot of things on game grumps, but they never really get mad at each other, and the most serious argument they have on Game Grumps is about Lady Gaga music videos.

The Civil War was "about" slavery, but it was also about how to interpret the Constitution, the powers of federal vs. state governments, civil rights in general (towards the end there was a kind of small feminist movement which picked up a while later), and national unification. The abolishing of slavery was the most prominent direct result of the war. History Grumps.

Are you guys planning on doing the best ending? Jon missed the fact that most stages have hidden parts, where the other Crests (Wind, Water, Time) are.

I don't know, slavery was outlawed in Europe way before that, and most groups over there thought it was pretty backwards or were against it. By the time America abolished slavery, almost the entire Western World had already been done with slavery for some time.

From what I've read, I think that the issue of slavery and its debate in congress was part of what sparked the issues with the south, which makes it very easy to say that's what the war was about, but I think that's casting southerners in a very simplistic light. I can virtually assure you that most of those men and women of the confederacy would not have stood up and fought a war if it was only in the interest of rich plantation owners. They felt their states rights were being circumvented.

Part of the reason for the start of the Civil War was because the South wanted to secede from the Union and the North couldn't allow that because most if not all of the materials for the making of clothes came from the South. In fact, if the South would have been allowed to secede and become it's own country then it would have been ranked as the fourth richest country of the time due to it's exports. Even though none of us were alive at the time, when you look at it from an economical standpoint it could be viewed that Slavery was a second string and actually used as a reason for the Civil War since 75% of northerners were against the act of slavery. (highly hypocritical considering the fact that all clothes were made from cotton harvested and planted by slaves) :/

The main reason why the South had seceded from the Union was because of a seemingly unfair favoritism for the North. This could be seen in the tariff increase of 1860-61. Because of this tariff, income from one of the major cash crops of the South (cotton) fell 10 percent. And another point of contention between the two was how strictly the Constitution should be read; North wanted a loose one and South wanted a strict. And the states of AR, NC, TN, VA, only secede after Lincoln's declaration
