@@commentingchannel9776 I'd say that's just some hard association at work. I like both soundtracks, but there are tunes here with far more punch to them, and new nuances. Take Astraea for one - now it's a song shared by Garl and Astraea, as opposed to just Astraea; I enjoy this dynamic shift in the music, depending on how long you do battle with Garl.

Gotta agree on that, the old theme seemed to fit for the fight much more. That said, I would argue that the new rendition of the song is a much better musical piece overall.

It gets more intense as you are fighting Garl Vinland and then complete silence once you kill him up until you approach Maiden Astrea. I actually like what they did here but the soundtrack doesn't deliver the dynamic aspect of it like gameplay does.

The original is very somber and slow. It isn't fight music. It is the song that represents Maiden Astraea begging you to leave her, garl, and the wreches of the swamp alone. The remaster is too powerful. It sounds like they are trying to fight to push you away instead of standing their ground and begging you to leave. It isn't bad by any stretch but I feel like the original fits best.

The new one will be better if Garl Vinland's AI isn't as clunky as his old one A harsh pvp like combat with this ost will make it even sadder, but unfortunately, he's being parried/chain-backstabbed to death most of time, kinda ruined the moment

@@ahari8142 fair enough, that’s why music is very fluid. We all have separate tastes and opinions and ultimately so long as we enjoy it in one form or another then it’s all good.

I absolutely love the original soundtrack, because it was has that strangely mysterious and otherworldly vibe, while this one is more "epic". There are tracks that i prefer in the original, but some of the tracks have been improved in the remake as well.

IpsilonZ people keep saying the tracks are “epic” in the new one, and I don’t see it. Yeah they use more detailed instrumentation’s with a proper choir, but I don’t feel it detracts from the energy of the game. It’s more detailed yes, but when I hear the new astraea theme it feels just as sad. Idk everyone to their own I guess

yeah i kind of hold the same sentiment but i can't help but wonder what they could have done with the same vibes the old soundtrack had but made it new in some way besides making it sound more like bloodborne/dark souls 3 BUT i'm not complaining too much because i adore both moden darksouls AND demons souls so idk. I have both soundtracks in a music playlist and i like both.

the original wasnt keyboard samples, it was actually live. theres actual musicians credited in the sountrack disk. it was just recorded in a pretty small room iirc.

@@zent8324 There were some real instruments in the original OST, but a lot of it was definitely synthesized. As a brass player, the original score has some of the fakest sounding brass I've ever heard. Not saying it's bad! They did the best they could with the resources and budget they had.

@@Chumpskey no I’m not deluded. Have you played the songs in game? Because a simple RU-vid video of the track does not suffice. As well, each track is modular to the fight/scene, meaning certain points of the song is only used in a cutscene and the bulk of the track are the parts that sound like the original. For example, the start choir part of the fools idol does not play in the fight, it plays in the cutscene, and works well since as she descends, the scene goes from one of false hope to one of sheer terror. This is smart since it matches the lore of the area, and the boss. Then during the fight it plays the entire piano motif like the original. That’s something people seem to not understand. Another one is the maiden in blacks song, as the holy chanting is only played in the intro summon cuscene at the start of the game. In game it’s the good old harpsichord, nothing more. And I disagree that the composition has changed. The only real things they change in composition is the goofy doots of trumpets are changed to high choir notes and the low honks of trombones are from low choir notes. Other than that the instrumentation is the same. Fools idol still uses piano, maiden astraea still uses harpsichord. So, if the instrumentation is almost exactly the same, and the motifs are exactly the same, and the only change is that it has a more detailed array of sound, it’s suddenly bad??? Listen, you’re the one calling me deluded, and yet the songs are so similar to the originals it is literally mind boggling how upset people are. I understand personal preference, but if you just prefer the og, you wouldn’t go talking about how shit the new one is. You would just accept you prefer the og and just listen to that instead of preaching the same hate babble to people despite us already hearing it 10000 times. We get it, but you can’t force everyone into the same opinion as you. And even, some tracks honestly sound better. Penetrator actually has a unique theme now, one that far better represent his character and lore, storm kings track is actually intimidating now and feels like I’m fighting a giant monster. Still, I personally prefer the original soundtrack, but I can objectively see how amazing the new one is and can accept if some are better. I’m not on the hate bandwagon, I respect what people think. And when is the motifs ever overshadowed, like ever. Bring some examples please. The new OST sounds newer and more detailed, just like how the remake looks newer and more detailed. That is the whole point, to bring an old game into the modern age, and if you hate it for being newer then you’re literally brainless. You want the game to sound old, there’s a reason why the original is still there. If you dont like the new ones, don’t hate them for it, it’s literally the goal of the concept. I love and hate how for years the community have wanted a remake to make demons souls more accessible and new, but as soon as they get it, they winge, cry and scream about it being newer. Like people hate for the sake of hate and I just don’t get it. I knew before the game even came out that I wouldn’t prefer it to the original, as the original has that ‘old game feel’ that just can’t be beat, but at least I can see the amazing quality of the remake, and both versions stand as my favourite souls game, right with bloodborne. Hope you take something from this, learn to be more open minded and escape you’re anti-everything box.

some of the remakes are very good. i do miss certain things though - like the drum roll in the opening, or the 'ha ha ha' in the tower knight. i think the remakes of pentrator and flame lurker are spot on.

Yeah, "One Who Craves Souls" had always been my favorite, even among pieces from the newer Souls games, it just carries with it a powerful sense of bittersweetness, be it melancholy or some vague sense of doubt. While I do like the new iteration of it, it feels... too grandiose? I feel as though the addition of a slow, drawn-out choir and what seems to be a slightly more drawn-out pace to the song makes it... not as impactful?

Glad I'm not the only one. I get major Bloodborne vibes from the whole OST just from how they use the chorus and strings. I just started playing Demon's Souls today, so I had to look up the OST this evening to give it a listen.

I think the new soundtrack is fantastic, but it feels incredibly out of place. Stuff like the new Tower Knight theme feels less like DeS and more like GoW. I like some renditions, in particular the ending themes and the Penetrator, but I prefer the original for everything else, especially for stuff like Allant's theme. For as weird as the old one is, it has tons of personality to it.

@@Odinsday See, for me the first game was just too bleak. To this day, it remains one of the most depressing video game experience I've ever completed. That's not not bad or even a complaint. But because of this, I have to actively prepare myself before starting a new file, and DeS has always been my least favorite From Soft game for this reason. The remake made the game more palatable to me on almost every level, and I prefer the more triumphant tone of the soundtrack. The original is a masterpiece; but not one I enjoy.

I feel like most of the times when brass is introduced into any of these tracks, like most film compositions, the brass is used to express negative emotions like anger and sadness compared to the mystery that the brass expresses in the ps3 ost. I like both interpretations though. Especially since low brass always be going ham in this one.

imma be honest i think it's just a matter of personal taste. i personally really don't like the original DeS soundtrack, probably because it sounds like it was all made with synths

Its standard Digital Album - vgmdb.net/album/105608 (Several tracks are missing or shortened e.g. Adjudicator, Maiden Astraea) For more tracks we have to wait for "Collector's Edition" - vgmdb.net/album/105607 And the best thing to do is to wait until someone tidies up the gamerip and makes it available on some music forum or RU-vid. A lot of games soundtracks are released like this - especially Soulsborne series.

Yeah I agree this. I wouldn't say it's totally just Dark Souls, which mostly just sounds the same, but this loses the grotesque humor of some of original tracks. I mean the adjudicator track in the original had a kind of quasi bird call going on it (between the bassoon and I think the clarinet?), which totally fits the boss fight. If that's in the remake I certainly can't hear it. I also can't hearing the sliding, angular string lines that were at the end of the original's loop. It was cool, kind of disturbing sorts of music. Not everything *needs* full orchestral forces, and, while the remake's music is good, it just loses the charm the original had.

That was the deal breaker for me not getting the vinyl.
