I'm 63, knew nothing of the manga/anime, so went in cold...came out absolutely blown away. Saw it 3 times in the IMAX, and have now purchased the digital version of the film and have also watched the series. I have several figurines displayed in my loungeroom and a large framed Displate on my wall. The entire film is simply gorgeous...interesting and well written characters, exquisite animation and a monumental soundtrack...And my favourite character? One word..."Umai!"

Hello, I'm Japanese. The water and flames that appear when they use their swords are just expressions. Water and flames do not actually come out of the sword. Due to their breathing and technique, when the technique is precisely reproduced, it looks as if real water is flowing. Water is not shown to the sword of a person with low skill. The author explained that in the comic. sorry my poor English😭 I hope it your helps🥰 In fact, Murata is a water breather, but no water appears in his technique. It is because his skill is lower than Tanjirou and Giyu.

Out of all the animes I watch, Demon slayer was the only one my mom became interested in. With other animes, she shows a little interest but doesn't get invested like my dad, brother and I. But when we watched Demon slayer she demanded we never watch one episode without her, and she bought tickets for the movie the moment they were available.

My buddy's mom is Japanese, and apparently she said the reason it's particularly popular in Japan is because the story is interwoven with a significant number of Japanese cultural references and puns. Like personalities, pronunciations, numbers, and double meanings across them. Even though I don't understand them myself, I love the series for what it is, and I hope you will too!

Fun fact, inosuke’s blades were actually normal like the other characters but he beat them with a rock to get the serrated edge lol

You are correct on the ending, its more character development for the Hashira/Pillars. We only got a little bit of development in the anime series for them and they were set up as somewhat of an untouchable/unbeatable force. So we get to see their reaction to losing one of their own and how they handle it personally.

Just to clarify - this arc did take place in the story, right where we pick up in the movie. So, yes, the movie was also based on the manga.

I saw the movie with my friends the day it came out after school, there were 5 of us and only one of my friends hadn’t seen the show, and he still loved it, it’s good to know that even people who aren’t fans of the series are enjoying it! Also make sure to let your daughter know that season 2 was announced awhile ago

This is a relatively interesting perspective because as someone who's seen the show and gotten to know Tanjiro as a character, the dream sequence was one of the most powerful parts of the film.

His pronunciation of the title was so..wholesome.

It's really sweet of you for taking your daughter with you. My mom went with me also not because of age limit but I forced her to. I just wanted us to bond with this film. Although, I made her watch the series so she at least had an idea what's going on 🤣🤣🤣

I'm an almost 28 year old anime fan and I'm watching it at the theater with my stepdad today. I watched the first season and I enjoyed it. While my stepdad is going in blind, we did see One Piece: Stampede in theaters a couple years ago and the show is still ongoing with currently over 900 episodes...and he liked it. I think your daughter will be happy to know that season 2 is coming out later this year and that it directly follows the movie's ending.

Not gonna lie, as someone who DID see the show before the movie, I didn’t enjoy the first act either so don’t worry about it. The later half of the movie though was where it shined for me

Inosuke’s breathing Styles an adapted/self-improvised version, exclusive to him, and I’m pretty sure no one else can replicate it because it’s too wild lmao

if someone likes inosuke ( the shirtless boar head guy ) they are automatically a true demon slayer fan

The Demon Slayer movie is not only _like_ the season one finale, it IS the season one finale. I binge-watched season one for a week before reaching the movie.

Good Job! This is a good honest assessment of the emotional levity of the subject matter to someone unfamiliar with the source material. I could only imagine that Tanjiro's dream sequence would fall flat not knowing his family was murdered by someone from not having watched the first episode.

At the end of the movie, the people they showed were the other Hashira(Pillars), and their relative reactions were based on their relationship with Rengoku (which is to be detailed more in the manga as the story goes on) and their personalities. And also, Rengoku is set to be the most admired/liked person among the Pillars (according to an appendix of the manga). I actually cried harder when the snake guy said he doesn't believe it, so for a manga reader, the ending was pretty awesome. But yeah, for outsiders, it might just be baffling and overwhelming to see a lot of new characters appearing all at once, however, you might just get a glimpse of how Rengoku impacts the Demon Slayer world.

Ok let me explain a little thing. The magic system is not magic. It's actually just techniques. The thing is that they train so hard that they end up doing their techniques with such finess that it looks like it has an element. Mainly a bit of fancervice for us. The only thing with something like magic are the demons. ( the breathing is just a way of breathing that increases your heart rate , oxygen circulation exetera this increases your physical abilities a bit)

I appreciate hearing the perspective of an outsider a lot. Existing fans tend to be rabidly positive only. As a fan of the show I knew what I was heading into and you were in the mark a lot with "this means more to fans who know". I saw your comment you started watching the show after and look forward to hearing your thoughts.

The movie is actually just called Demon Slayer: Infinity train in English or Kimetsu no yaiba: Mugen train for a more Japanese translation. Demon Slayer: Mugen train is what most English viewers call it.

What i like about this movie. Is that its not a whole new crazy fantasy arc. Its basically a long ass episode to kick us all into gear for season2.

I'm glad you got a brief summary from your daughter. When my friend took me to see it, I went on completely blind. I only recognized the main guy, I knew they slayed demons, and I knew of Inosuke (at the time, he was only that one character that had a boar head that strangely scared the hell out of me and reminded me of princess mononoke, but ironically became my favorite character after the movie xD)

I decided to watch Demon Slayer movie because of the hype around it. It was the first time I watched the Anime. I didn't understand it till I watched the 26 episode series, I got addicted. I then watched the movie again and I couldn't stop laughing at Inosuke

I would recommend you watch the show. First act becomes incredibly touching when you know a little backstory. Tanjiro is such a good character.

Not trying to say anything against daughter or anything but, if I was to explain Demon Slayer to newby who’s never seen the show I would not have started talked about the Demon hierarchy. Mainly because that is something even I don’t fully understand and I don’t think the anime spends a lot of time explaining to begin with. lol If I was her I would have started with the characters first such as explaining who our main character Tanjiro is. Mainly that he’s a Demon Slayer because in the very first episode while he’s coming back from the local village he finds his family brutality mudered (younger siblings/mother everyone) and his sister Nezuko has been turned into a Demon herself. This sets Tanjiro on his parth to find a cure for Nezuko and find out who did this to his family. Nezuko was their girl Demon in the box if you didn’t figure that out yet. A simple synopsis like that worked for my friend who came with me to watch the film having never seen the anime either. After this movie he became very interested and binged through the show in a weekend! Lol

Demon Slayer was originally a manga(basically a comic), it already ended and the anime(basically it being animated) is slowly catching up. The word "arc" is to describe a certain event within the entirety of the whole story. Example: the movie covered an entire "arc". Sorry if I'm unnecessarily describing this.

This was a really interesting idea. I don't think the movie was intended for newcomers, being a direct continuation of the show, but it was interesting to see what someone thinks of the movie without watching the show. Reminds me of when I had my dad take me to the Avatar The Last Airbender movie... Only in that case, I am still ashamed to this day of wanting to see that.

I watch this movie with my brother the other day! He went in blind (with just a brief explanation of the characters in the car ride because I didn’t know what the movie would explain) and he had a lot of the same feelings as you. It’s nice to see people who hadn’t watched the show enjoy it.

Inosuke’s voice actor is just amazing. First, he plays Inosuke, whose voice… well, it’s pinched, rough, and the pitch changes randomly or based on intensity. It absolutely fits the character Inosuke’s wild nature. And then he plays a completely different role. Let’s say… Xiao from Genshin Impact. Smooth, collected, sometimes intense- it’s a completely separate tone of voice. No trace of the crazy edge that Inosuke has. I had been told by a friend that both shared the same voice actor and I didn’t believe it, so I went to go look it up… and yep. Same voice actor. Tanjiro and Zenitsu’s voice actors are phenomenal as well 👍 I think everyone did a great job and I love them all for their hard work in making their characters come to life.

Love seeing the perspective of someone who didn't watch the show before. I loved this movie so much.

Its really cool to see someone take an outsiders perspective on an anime got to show my dad this he wont watch anime with me cause there's "still frames" which I can understand but with some of this newer anime they've been good at keeping the frames fluent

If this movie ends up getting nominated for every movie award imaginable and ends up winning every movie award imaginable, I can imagine it sparking up some actual interesting conversation especially in the social media age, because when spirited away won movie awards it was a different time, so I'm looking forward to how the discourse is going to turn out if this movie gets nominated for all the movie awards and ends up winning, same way with how parasite cause a lot of conversation when it was winning a lot of movie awards.

i too went in completely blind. i grasped the idea and ranks and stuff all in the movie. especially when u see "lower one" and "upper three" lol but definitely loved the movie. I watched the show in 24 hours right after. Really great show too. probably my favorite now.

i watched the movie with my mom who's also never seen the demon slayer anime and came in blind. she really enjoyed the music and inosuke, and was asking me questions throughout the movie, but in the end she really enjoyed it! this video is so cute, 100/10

as someone who usually hopes for non anime fans to enjoy anime in and of itself.... what a review! loved hearing your opinion on it. Also really interesting to hear a parent's enjoyment too. My dad personally cannot give anything animated a chance so this was refreshing!

9:44 The way you said Hashira sounded a little bit like Hershey XD. By the way, to help pronounce japanese words better would be by spacing the letters out and changing the way you say the english letters in a way. For example, Inosuke. It looks hard to say but you just need to space it out into words you know. In no su k e. When pronouncing, say In just like In, say no just like the word no, say su just like your about to say soup but without the p sound, and say the ke like your about to say okay but without the o and y sound. That's how I usually break down Japanese names and words but since I have watched anime and listened to many multilanguaged songs, it doesn't take me long to find out how to pronounce something. Try this method while making upcomming videos and you will see that you will be able to pronounce words more accurately. Also I hope you are enjoying Demon Slayer!

Ngl, it's impressive how invested you got into the whole thing. Especially since you had so little background information on the series. I'm glad to see anime transcend its niche and enter the mainstream as more people can appreciate all the great stories being told in this medium. Demon Slayer is an especially cool and accessible one due to its popularity, but trust me when I say that there's some real masterpieces out there. Check out Monster, Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion if you have the time. They are some universally praised all time classics.
