A few notes(because translations are a betch)[no spoilers, don’t wory]: Hinokami= Fire god; kagura= dance(sorta) Some foreshadowing: Shinobu(butterfly girl) mentioning in the beginning of the episode how people’s lives flash before their eyes when they’re about to die. The father says they do the dance every year as a tradition because it brigs families who work with fire( they prepare and sell charcoal as mentioned a few times in the beginning)benedictions and such. Explaining how this tradition started tho would be a spoiler so that’s where this one stops. In about episode 5 Haganezuka(the sword smith) called Tanjirou a child of brightness(child of fire) before mentioning the crimson red sword The earrings: Clearly Muzan Jackson had some ptsd when he saw them and remembered a swordsman with the same earrings and a red sword. Tanjirou’s black sword color also indicates a few things but at this moment in time it would be a spoiler to mention them so no explanation fo’ U! Some “um akshually🤓” lmao He didn’t grow his sword back, humans can at most do some superhuman stuff but actual spells and such are reserved for demons. I’d ask anyone else for any details I might’ve forgotten but I don’t want to risk the spoilers(Never trust anyone, not even me 🤪)
I wanna add some things like dude first season has tons and I mean tons of forshadowing it's crazy you know one only 😔 well moving on it was not a typical fight lol like it was fight of teamwork without nezuko tanjiro would've lost we see that tanjiro sword glows up like I dots that's literlly there bonds coming together 2 I wanna say to both them look at a close look at tanjiro and his father marks there's a differenrce
This episode definitely makes you emotional but it's to the credit of the story telling, animation, sound track and the constant roller coaster of emotions it's making you go through. I think one of the things they did so well (out of many in this episode) is how they toyed with your emotions through tension then at the end, all that tension is released and you are crying from all that. "Kagura" is a dance dedicated to God. "Hinokami" is the god of the sun. In Japanese, "Hi" has two meanings, fire and sun. The pattern on Tanjiro's earrings is a sun mark.
This scene was the first to make me tear up since the Going Merry scene in OnePiece. The music, the artstyle for the fire, the father and mother moment to awaken this new "powers". Just beautiful. No need to feel ashamed for tearing up. An anime can touch u just like any movie or tv show with real actors.
Fun fact that has nothing to do with the episode: some birth marks are technically heritable traits like moles, which are just benign tumors...but they get passed down and can even be in the exact same place Also , I've seen this episode dozens of times but i still tear up.....agh..
The dance is an offering to the sun god. They work with the sun so it is like they prayer to sun. And Nezuko's blood demon art is explosion and it does appear like fire, maybe it bursts fire.
Cause the originaly name is actually sun breathing lol , which makes it the most powerful breathing techniques and also all techniques are derived from this

No joke I test myself to see if I can ever rewatch this episode without crying. The delivery of the emotional roller coaster is top grade. Were always used to sad stories or happy endings. I love Demon Slayer because it wasn't just that, its the influx of emotions from being drawn in and becoming a character. Keep up the good work, will def hope to catch more from yall!
The animation company Ufotable did such a good job! The Fight sequence, music, voice acting were top notch. In manga, this fight was over in 2-3 panel. They bring out so much more in this series!
Fun fact: The lyrics to the song that plays during the fight and through the ending (Hinokami I believe it's called) are written with words and phrases Tanjiro has used thoughout the series.
Just for the information in case you haven't been told it yet: Hinokami means "God of Fire". Kagura is a special dance that is used in offerings to the gods (translates literally to "god-entertainment"). So the Hinokami Kagura is just the "Dance of the Fire God". So Tanjiro's dad said to get his breathing under control and become [the god of fire]. Which I think is cool AF
Heck. Yeah. This. Episode! As a younger sister who has an elder brother this episode hits different. I bawled lol Someone probably told you already but hinokami is a god related to fire. Kami is God. Kagura dance is a traditional Japanese dance done to honour the gods. There are different types of Kagura for different gods
To give non-spoiler context. Remember when Muzan (The main demon) talked about the Hanafuda earrings and how Muzan himself went and killed Tanjiro's family? Well the theory is that Tanjiro's dad may have beat Muzan's ass or something back in the day, but because of their fight, his dad's body got frail and weak as you see in this episode. And while Tanjiro's dad most likely used a type of fire type breathing (but not exactly the same as normal fire breathing which you'll see later), Tanjiro obviously learned Water breathing from his master. So perhaps he will be able to mix both water and fire in the future to his moves
There are very few anime that have moments like that, where the emotion of the moment pulls you in so completely that it all becomes real in that moment. The Hinokami Kagura, and the emotions that gave rise to that moment of desperation, using the Final Tenth Form of Water Breathing, the knowing the drawbacks it will have on his body, just to kill this demon. Wonderful

I binged the series on netflix. It's one of those series you NEED to binge just because how some episodes end. The english dub was actually amazing. Matched the originals emotion which often dubs fail to do.

If someone hasn't already explained it, 'Hino' is translated as Field of Flames/Flame Field and 'Kami' translates as God so what Hinokami means is a Flame God while 'Kagura' is translated as a Dance, specifically one to please the Gods. So Hinokami Kagura translates to 'Flame God Dance'.

Interesting Facts: 1. The official statement is that the melody of Tanjiro no Uta (Tanjiro's Song) is the sound that Zenitsu heard when he first met Tanjiro 2. The lyrics are actual comments Tanjiro had said from previous episodes I was already teared up before knowing them, but after finding out I cried like a baby... :')
oh don't worry about being emotional, the whole freakin anime community cried when this episode was released, and i still tear up whenever i rewatch it. Oh and hinokami means (dance of the fire god), not a spoiler it's a dance taught by the kamado family only.

"Hinokami" 「火の神」means "Fire God". A "kagura" 「神楽」is a dance meant to entertain the gods. And a type of it is usually performed in festivals or celebrations for whichever god is enshrined in the area. Tanjiro's family works with coal. So the god of fire is their family's patron deity. Tanjiro's father performs his kagura every New Year as a kind of thank you to the deity and to ask its blessing once again. The "Hi" in Hinokami also carries double-meaning. As it's also how you read 「日」.
NO SPOILERS Love the reaction :) im 35 and i got a tear running my face lol. Like tanjiro's dad says the dance of the Fire God is a Breathing Style only known and taught by the Kamado family "his family" it is passed on from father to son in every generation alongside the hanafuda earrings. The Kamado family uses the breathing style within a ritual ceremony practiced every new year, where the Breathing Style user offers the Fire God a dance from sunset to sunrise to ward off diseases.

I just watched this episode last night and I'm still thinking about it now. Been on a binge watching everyone else's reactions to it hahaha. One of THE best anime episodes of all time!
Not that it's gonna mean much for this season but the sword maker said something to tanjiro about having red eyes and red hair and being born to a family that works with fire. Just a little foreshadowing.
Did you notice the mask given by urokodaki if not go watch that episode and looks closely to the mask desighn of tanjiro the answer is there you will see a mind blowing forshadowing
I’ll try to explain without spoiling Hinokami means Fire God 火(hi)fire 神(kami)God, kagura means a sacred dance or song in shinto religion.. “sacred dance of the fire God”( 火の神神楽) hinokami could also be mean as the Sun God but in different kanji 👉日の神

some may say the power of this episode is greater than that of the Hinokami Kagura Dance (Fire God Dance) and also he cant grow his sword back because of the fact that in Kimetsu no Yaiba demon slayers don't actually have magic they just move their sword and body to mimic something so for example Tanjiro doesn't actually make water or fire there's just visual effects added in for the pleasure of the people watching

The song that plays when Tanjiro is fighting is the reason I want to cry, you guys should search the translation of that song's lyrics, Kamado Tanjiro no Uta, after knowing the meaning will make this episode 10/10 marks

Demon slayer just not about defeating demon and story .....it's just beautiful as the story progress demon slayer will be one of the most beautiful anime and i can't for you guys to react to the movie because it will surpass this episode
