A rotary encoder controls the direction and color of an emitter that shoots a ball with a specific pitch, associated with that color, on a circular GC9A01 screen. As the ball hits the edge, it emits a note event, which is played with CircuitPython's synthio

@todbot while I'm here... lots of folk are getting excited about the Risc-V architecture being included as well as the Arm cores... Why is this a big deal? What can the Risc-V cores do that the Arm cores can't, and if you're only ever coding in Python or Arduino does it make any difference? Thanks!

In the RP2350, the RISC-V cores are less powerful than the Arm cores. But RISC-V is an open source design spec and the Hazard3 cores in the RP2350 are on github if you want to use them for your own chips. And "open" here also means not having to pay Arm Corp for a license on each chip. Raspberry Pi I'm sure is very interested in that. And while the RISC-V cores aren't as fast, they're not too far off I hear (and faster than the RP2040). So a future "Pico" may be entirely RISC-V based and still be very fast. Which means cheaper for us, since no license fee

I love rotary encoders, but can't someone design a version that's not so loud when you push the button? 😜

Ahah totally! Normal switches have "actuating force" as a product variation, and you can pick low actuation force to get more silent switches. But all rotary encoders I've seen with push switches just say "5-9 N force" CLICK CLICK
