My Cascade 1500 filter has been grinding and sounding awful so I decided to replace the pump's impeller. When the Penn Plax (Official OEM) replacement part finally showed up... it had absolutely ZERO instructions!?!?!!
I couldn't find any demonstration of how to replace this on the internet: I figured it out and thought I'd share: It's very easy, but the parts were stuck together really *REALLY* tightly. Sorry for the poor quality; I didn't rehearse any of this. I was just figuring it out as I went.
One term you might not be familiar with is "Volute:" That is the inside, snail-shell shaped part of a centrifugal pump.
I hooked it back up and after about 10 minutes of running, all the air was clear of the filter media. Now this bad-boy is virtually silent and all is well with the world! :-)
