1000 dollars in 1972 is now 6198 dollars today, for a videocassette player weighing 100 lbs and to play it on a 9" TV screen. Times sure have changed :)

I’m getting the recorder version of that machine off eBay (VO-1600)…what in the world did I get myself into 😳

These things will never catch on. ;) Jokes aside, I have a 1974 Sony VO-2600 U-matic, and that thing weighs 70 pounds :D

The U-Matic format. It didn’t catch on with consumers, but Sony would have better luck with another format a few years later.

I have a similar videocasette player, but it's hase a few more nobs on the leftern side and has some interesting missing parts in the back. Looks like it was just an accesorie not an actual vital part. Is this machine compatible with standard VHS casettes? Sorry about my grammer English is only my second language.
