Your methods/motivation have gotten me the highest GPA I have ever gotten for my junior & now, senior years of college. Thank you SO much and please continue making these videos!!
Thanks so much! I am not a bright/successful student but I am trying to change my study habits, so that I can do better. Gonna follow your study techniques.
Try reading "The Power of Habit", by Charles Duhigg. The term I read it, I started using my time much more effectively, and went up 10% across the board.
We study very similarly! I also write things out on white boards, make flash cards and take hand notes. I cannot learn from reading a powerpoint or document. I do use Quizlet so I can take multiple choice quizzes like we do in class which is very helpful to me. I use your little word association thing too, I am a respiratory therapy student and I remembered Central Chemo receptors read CO2 because they both begin with C.
Thank you for this! I've always struggled when it comes to reading chapters in my text book but this helped me understand what i need to keep in mind while reading. thank you!!!
You are the best! I've being your follower for a long time now and it's amazing your ability to bing up useful and helpful content! Thank you very much! I always carry to my heart what you said once: "There is nothing you can't learn". And that's it. That's how I, with my broken english came to Toronto to become an MD. Thanks!
Thank you so much for making this video! I have watched so many videos where the RU-vidr just reiterates the same techniques over and over again such as making flashcards or highlighting with different colors. I really appreciate that you are showing us your techniques with materials that you are actually utilizing so it seems more applicable to my own studying. I have enjoyed watching your videos so much!
Hi, I am a Radiodiagnosis resident with my exams in 4 months...This is pretty much what i do.. I also use post-its when the column space runs out.. And draw flow charts for pathogenesis on a post-it instead of reading a paragraph, helps me retain the concepts better. Thank you. Good luck with your fellowship :)
Wow! This mnemonic technique you described - I have been using this throughout my nursing school! I've come up with most strange images, rhymes, names, etc. And it was really my secret weapon which took through most of the exams. I was just amazed how you described it exactly the same way I've been using this! I thought I've invented this method lol
I've been finding myself falling behind using the studying techniques that have gotten me through some lower level pre-med classes, but your studying techniques are great! I'm definitely going to incorporate this for a more efficient study session. Thank you!
Thank you for posting this video! I just started my 2nd semester of medical school. I've watched your videos since the start and you've been a constant inspiration to me. Good luck with all your fellowship interviews :)
Wow thank you, this was so helpful! I'm an MS1 and trying to push through neuroanatomy right now, so I'll definitely have to try these memory techniques! I used your summary & hot dog sheets technique last semester and it went very well! Thanks for sharing!
Great vlog Andrea. Good luck on your interviews!!! it seems like only yesterday you were still in clinical before graduating med school. stay warm too!!!
It was very inspiring and helpful ! I hope You will do more of this type of videos ! :) I am currently studying for my internal medicine exam (its cardio+pulmunology+hemato+gastro+nephro+rheumatology+endocrinology all in one test for us !) so I seriously needed that ;)
Hey, amazing tip about the fold over note cards. I used Anki before, but I still struggled to retain the information, and much prefer writing things out.
Thank you very much for the video, I found it simple and practical. Besides English is not my mother tongue and I live in a Spanish-speaking country and I find your pronunciation easy to understand, I will keep watching your videos. Thank you if you have something specific to recommend to study neonatology, some tip or digital books.
can you please make a short video of how you have studied for the usmle step 2 ck, your strategies and resources if it's not too much to ask? Thank you for all that you do, really appreciate your time and efforts.
I love your videos! And your tips are the best! Im from Brazil, loved the amazon memory-aid haha. Your tips are the best! :) Great video! Thanks for sharing Dra. Andrea :)
You said that the folded sheets didn't work for you for anatomy, so how exactly did you study for anatomy in med school? Thank you for all of your tips it has helped me so much!!
Could you please share your study techniques for the mcat? I know it is now quite different especially length-wise, but knowing how you approached all of that material would be super helpful!
This was amazing Andrea!! loved the Dave lettermen connection 😂😂😂 I do such things too. So glad about your peads exam. For me, personally, writing things down always helped and since the time you shared about folded sheet, I have been using them religiously but I am also a auditory learner so I try to record my own voice like I am lecturing and that helps too 🙌
that was really nice and explanatory... what about reading textbooks.. now this was a review book. so do you do anything different for those large textbooks?
Hey Andrea! I really enjoyed this video. It was super informative. I was wondering on average when using these study techniques, how long does it take you to complete 1 chapter of a review book for example? Especially when going through the information for the first time through.
Thank you very much Andrea! You inspire me a lot, and I just amazed by your devotion and self-discipline! You said that you're going to do a fellowship, is it necessary to do it after residency? How much time does it take for you to complete both? Thanks!
Big fan of yours Andrea! You mentioned you didn't use your paper form of flash cards for anatomy class b/c it was too time consuming. What study technique did you use for anatomy?
Great video Andrea! Ive come to value your insights on studying and the medical field in general. You mentioned how you did not use the folded sheets for anatomy. Then what was your approach?
Hi, I love your videos! I'm a first year medical student. Any tips on test taking? I often find that I am confident in the tested material, but make mistakes on exams.
Hi! Thank you so much for this video! Great techniques! I am in my second year of medicine. I am from Romania. I failed 3 exams in 3 years, because I don't know how to study. I am trying to remember every word on a page and because of that, I lose so much time and besides that, I never get to remember everything at exams...more than that, I forget everything from exhaustion...I hope your technique will make me have good grades from now on. Thank you so much! Oh, have you ever failed an exam? If so, how did you recover after the failure? I need some advices to get over this and start being happy again...
Hai Andrea, just wanna ask, how old were you when you started med school? You're videos are great by the way, real helpful. Thank you so much for sharing.
Hi! I really enjoyed your video! I'm a med student in Poland currently in my second year. I must admit that I struggle with learning physiology. Can you give any tips as to how to study it?
Thank you Andrea so much for this video, one question I do have is when you were talking about when you were in pre-med, medical school that you did not use the folded sheets for anatomy. what technique did you end up using instead? Thank you! In good health, Naima.
This was so helpful thank you! Also you would be interested in doing vlogs for your channel? I know you're obviously super busy so you could film and upload at your convenience but I think it would be super cool to see more into your personal life as a doctor! :)
i just found your videos today... your video are very informative....i am so behind with my schedule and so, may i ask you a quick question...did you have time to go thr all materials in FA? or just do uworld and go along with FA
Hi Andrea, I'm a 3rd yr med student and I am really struggling...I have literally forgotten all of my physiology and from that can't connect the pathophysiology...even easy things like how many leaflets are there in the mitral valve or blood supply to the hands - I just forget everything! Even in clinics, I don't even know what's going on despite asking as many questions- it's come to a point where I don't even know the reasons why people are put on IV fluids and how to come to that decision!!! PLEASE HELP I am going out of my mind :(
hey Andrea! thanks so much for this video! I was wondering if, in addition to the other methods, you would make summary sheets with compressed info for the material in the peds review book? Also for anatomy you said you didn't really use the folded sheets - do you have any other tips for tackling that module? Thanks again!
Thank you so much for the inspiration and for demonstrating the the active learning is the one that is the more effective. I will keep aware of more of your tips!
Hey Andrea! Thank you so much for posting this! Question about active reading strategy: How do you determine when you mentally quiz yourself on what you've read? Like how often are you doing it in a chapter? How much time elapses between reading something and quizzing yourself on it? Thank you for your time!
Can you explain the path to becoming a surgeon? Like undergrad, degrees, med school and all that. I'm looking to go into that field but i'm unsure of the whole process...and i just noticed you went to Mayo..that's like my dream!!!
Hey Andrea, great video. Do you find that in practice you forget? I'm an RT and I can't bring up things I need for practical reasons , but I got good marks on the tests. ;(
I wish I would have been this creative when I was in pre-clinical. Instead, I just made condensed flashcards. After that, I do all my learning using USMLE-Rx/UWorld and putting my gaps into Anki flash cards. SketchyMedical is actually another great resource.
I study with literally the same method you explained in this video!! It's actually so useful! (Glad to see that I'm not the only one who does this ahaha).
Hii Andrea, pleease I love your videos and study techniques, I bought a white board as well :) I just want to ask about anatomy study technique, I am learning it , reading and rewriting over and over but I still don ´t know it :(( please help me :)) thank you and have a lovely day
