Dempsey and Makepeace is the pairing of two police detectives: an elegant British noblewoman, Sgt (Lady) Harriet Makepeace, and a streetwise working-class New Yorker, Lt James Dempsey, both working for an elite and armed unit of the London Metropolitan Police.

Thanks for putting all three seasons of Dempsey & Makepeace on RU-vid. I enjoyed watching them all. (Some episodes had a very, very weak echo of Miami Vice & Minder, other popular series from that era, but most were strong with the London gangster theme.) Like most I relished riding the nostalgia wave while wearing the rose-coloured glasses. Nice to see some of the actors appearing in it from other shows like The Bill, etc. playing different characters. Amusing to also see some famous actors of the time appear within them too like Suzy Quatro, Jill St. John, etc. It was fun to see the old ‘80s cars/motors like the Ford: Escot, Cortina, Laser & Telstar with the Mini: Cooper & Metro, etc. driving around in parts of London before it got redeveloped. Seeing also the old-style ‘80s lorries/trucks, vans, etc. was enjoyable, too. I know this TV show followed the standard formula for Cop shows like: NCIS, CSI, Ashes to Ashes, The Bill, etc. with the Moonlighting aspect (will they, won’t they get together) added but what a journey. I understand nowadays some of it is hard to take with its early ‘80s attitudes towards women, etc. Some good foreshadowing in this episode of a character saying, "all good things must come to an end". Hard to see it being remade with the original main characters or actors since it has been so long. However, a TV reunion movie showing where the characters are now i.e. did the main characters ever really hookup & what happened with their careers, etc. would be amusing. (Imagine finding out whatever happen to the character played by Nick Brimble? Did he ever turn good? Otherwise, did he retire to the Maldives with pots of ill-gotten gain, stuck inside prison or came to a sticky end?) I know the actors who played the main characters did marry & sadly Ray Smith passed away not long after the series ended in 1991 with his tuneful Welsh accent. Anyway, we can live & hope while dreaming the possibilities of its story. 🤩

Miami Vice, Minder and D+Mpeace were my 3 favourite programmes as a kid. All were absolutely brilliant. Its also great to see Glynis looking so good, all this time after D+M. This is definitely a series that should be reborn for the 2020s. Who know's maybe with an AI recreating a young D+M?

Excellent Episode, Michael Brandon (Dempsey) directed this very well, watching Dempsey and Makepeace on Forces TV, PLEASE BRING BACK DEMPSEY AND MAKEPEACE, Had a crush on Dempsey (Michael Brandon).

Michael Brandon is a great person, where I used to work, he used to come to the restaurant in a hotel, so friendly and would always talk to you

They're kind of old to play those characters now. He's up in his seventies, and she's in her late sixties. That's past mandatory retirement age for cops. Plus, Ray Smith died just a few years after the show ended, and it wouldn't be the same without Spikings. And part of any show with male and female leads is the "will they or won't they" dynamic. To maintain that, it would have to mean that if a revival series were to happen, the answer was "they didn't" for all those years in between then and now. Personally, I'd rather imagine that Makepeace didn't come back to the job, but precisely because of that, the two of them were free to actually explore the unspoken mutual attraction that was so unmistakably implied in this episode, and eventually ended up as a couple -- just as the actors who played the characters did in real life.

More recently, i saw Michael Brandon in an episode of the Bill, and Glynis played Carl King's girlfriend in Emmerdale plus she was in EastEnders too. Tony Osoba was in Coronation Street and Porridge too

Apparently itv didn't re new the contract and had given a 3 year one but the American company which also made it wanted more

Fantastic episode. Can't download this so I'm buying the DVDs of the series. The only series nowadays able to touch this, The Professionals and The Sweeney is Line of Duty.

Glad to have watched this series, the story lines and the Chemistry of the 3 main stars/actors/actress. What I miss about all this PC baloney compared to the 1980's men were men and women were women...it sure was a lot easier getting along back then! Not to say we did not have political and financial pressures back then.

They had LGBT+ people back then too. But they were bullied and ridiculed more back then. Let me remind you of Boy George of Culture Club, Marilyn, and Pete Burns of Dead or Alive.

Good show but thought that first pilot one was the best, Harry looking more toned as season 3 progressed which sort of fits in with them getting together, thanks for the videos

It's Tony Osoba, and he liked acting in this show because he loves cars :-) I love his character here. We don't get to see much of him but if you put together everything he says and does, you realize Chaz is the ideal right-hand man for Spikings. Level-headed, dependable, has a sense of humour and holds the team together. Tony Osoba seems to be like that in real life. I corresponded with him and wrote a brief biography of him for my country's online film database. He was very nice and everybody said that about him, too. A real Renaissance person, on top of that. A Shakespearean actor but is also good at sports and technical stuff. I think that's why he acted in so many police dramas and sci-fi shows.
