My grandfather served in the Ostfront in both WW, as a reserved officer, and he was lucky enough to survive them, so I partly understand the sentiments. I wish Peace and prosperity to Russia, and also that we will never be at war with each other again.

just dont get me wrong :) my grandfather was in USSR army against germany in WW2 ;) but grandfather of my wife fought in army of germany against USSR. i have huge respect for both of them since both was FORCED to go in army and fight against eachother.

This song is not about communism or democracy or Bush or Putin, it is about the tragedy and joy of soviet people who won and survived though they had to pay a price of 35 mln of it's people, and singing this song in a rock or hip hop style would be an offense to the memory of our grandparents who died for us.

То, что делала царская а затем советская Россия правильно по одной простой причине - ей это выгодно, это отвечает её стратегическим интересам. I fully agree with you, about the beneficiary of the war. Sure as Hell Germany hadn't benefited, and as we can see now, neither had the Soviet Union. However I believe, the US has fallen into its own trap -so to speak- suffering from 'Victory fever' and a mountain of arrogance. I think the day of reckoning for them, is not long in coming.
@DeniseMatteau Yes. I remember that cartoon. Russian doesn't have the articles "the", "a"or "an".It must be very hard for an adult Russian learning English to understand the concept and figure out which nouns need the "the" in font of them.
Yeah, I'm sure that there was a list of the more than 100 ethnic groups in the whole USSR and the exact places they were accepted to go to. Oh and definitely in order to cross from oblast' to oblast' it must have been imprescindible to pass an ethnicity test involving even DNA analysis.
Why didn't Google come up with a Victory banner? Germany surrendered to the Russian 'Red' Army and singed a capitulation act on May 9th 1945. This is not an US holiday. But acknowledge the fact is a must. Russians stopped brown plague in Europe.
