I had to stop a few minutes into the video and comment before I forget. I think the "gold" rock is petlandite, but could be wrong.

I had never hear of Pentlandite until you just mentioned it. I looked it up and I think you're right about that. I has all the properties I was experiencing actually. The key would be where you found it... The stuff that comes from the Sudbury Meteor has a cool formation story. Either way, Pentlandite is considered somewhat rare so I'll take it! haha

It is the only one that I had like that. I was actually disappointed by it, as I thought it might be gold. If I recall correctly, it came from one of the Crosslake mines outside of Cobalt, Ontario.

If you look very closely at the interior of the dendrites, that is the actual silver. Haloed by abundant arsenides, most likely safflorite, skutterudtite, and cobaltite. Etch the calcite away with vinegar and examine under 45x if you want to see some amazing crystals. Gorgeous material, but pure, unfractured nickeline is even cooler, though 100x rarer. Very messy and smelly cutting, but I love it. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing!

You are right :) Since making this video I've learned a lot more about what comes out of Cobalt, On. I have a lot of this material now but trying to find the time to work with it. I'm thinking about adding some of the etched pieces I have to an upcoming video. Thanks for watching!

Good stuff! The material meMiner has is amazing stuff, you will be happy : ) I really enjoyed working with this stuff and the finished cabs turned out incredible, you should have no trouble making a stunning ring from it.

next time, if you polishing with dremel or something, you need to try out the blue paste, it's much finer, and it give mirror finish to them :)

Try Ultra-Fine black Sharpies. They make sharper (LOL) lines on slabs. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting piece of equipment looks much heavier duty than other horizontal wheel machines It probably has twice the surface area of an 8" diamond pacific style wheel and cost less also. Nice. !!!

Do you use a thin blade trim saw cutting in this kind of material? Another great vid. Thanks!

It depends on the material, finer material like Amber and Opal I use a thin trim blade. This Silver/Cobalt I used a medium thickness, but for Quartz or Agate I would a bit thicker blade unless it's just trimming them down a bit. The quality of cut depends on the blade so don't be afraid to spend a bit extra on them.
