Love it!! you could also just create patched jean(machine sewed together) "Fabric" and then cut it out for your pattern...that's what i am attempting...then I will line it with ?muslin type fabric and sashiko hand stitch..each panel (two sleeves, two front, back, and collar...wish me luck
Hey man I really love this idea, I've been wanting a kimono style jacket for a while. I do have a question though: where did you get your sewing experience and know-how?
Killer job. The kimono is an awesome one-of piece. I have some old jeans I'd like to do the same to. Would you recommend using a pattern to help layout the pieces, and what measurements would be good reference points to acheive a similar fit? (ie. I'm 6ft, 185lbs) Thanks in advance.
+nate robbins Thank you! I didn't use a pattern or any 'technical' references, you can go about it too ways, either google some Kimono patterns (you may be able to find some for free) get that printed and go from there ... OR, use a cardigan/jumper that you like the fit of - especially around the shoulders area, and from those measurements draw a box/rectangle to cover the front and back!
Holy sh!t. I feel like this is on some type of Jun Takahasi Undercover wave. So, soo dope man. Would love to see more videos harkening back to this D.I.Y. esque vibe. That new video reworking / tailoring those thrifted jackets for the bali look was cool, but seeing you produce an entirely new piece is much more creative and interesting imo!!!
Sangiev, This is fantastic, man. Attempting to make something like this has been in the back of my mind ever since I first saw Junya's patchwork pieces. Your kimono looks great. As far as constructing a piece (either like this or in general), would you recommend making a test-garment out of tulle or something before using the denim fabric? Did you make a sample at all? I just stumbled upon your channel--this video has me hitting the subscribe button. Cheers.
dacrobatics Ahh thank you man and that piece definitely triggered the thought, and let's be honest I wasn't going to spend well over a grand for a jacket! Our tutors always told us to work off a tulle, just so that when it comes to actually working with fabric you know exactly what you're doing and you don't waste any fabrics ... And although I would normally work off a tulle on a more complicated piece, for this garment I went straight into the fabric. I kinda wanted the whole 'messy' vibe to it so even if some of the parts look off - I think it looks dope! Thank you for watching and subscribing, appreciate it!
