Anxiety levels are rising among primary and secondary school children across the globe. For parents and educators, this is a worrying trend. What are we doing wrong and what could we be doing to fix it? Could Denmark's teaching practices hold the key to happiness in the classroom. In India, you learn math, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, zoology, etc but won't learn basic manners. Students yell at eachother like dogs. Teachers never care about you, boys aren't allowed to speak with girls. No group activities, assignments or projects. More memory power, more marks. You aren't allowed to be creative and show case your skills. Our schools make us a good corporate or government servant. You'll be forced to memorize formulas without knowing to derive them. You'll be beaten with steel/wood scale if you don't answer teachers question. Everyday you get homework, if you don't complete, you need to kneel down outside the class till the lecture ends. No matter how creative you are, you'll be judged by grades. All our final projects will be thrown to dustbin after the academic year. That's the reason why we are still a developing country or will be the rest of our life.

Your country is in the state it's in because of where it's situated in the global value chain. First world consumers need dirt cheap labor to make all their stuff. That's where countries like India, Bangladesh and the Congo come in. Their economies are structured around agriculture and low-skilled, labor intensive industries. As a result, they are unable to afford to invest in education and training or provide higher wages to their workers. This perpetuates a cycle of poverty and prevents economic growth, which ultimately leads to brain drain and a shortage of intellectual capital. The blame lies squarely with imperialism and the legacy of colonialism, which have played a significant role in shaping these countries' economic realities, as they have left a lasting impact on their political and social systems. Therefore, to address the underlying issues facing these countries, it is necessary to address the systemic inequality and exploitation that has kept them in a state of perpetual poverty and underdevelopment.

@@vm99125 It isnt exactly how they say in this video. This is the specific school and/or teachers choice, and a good one. At my school, its not like this. They teach it more through playing and spending time collectively with the class. Before you start in school, you have around 2 months of pre-school before kindergarten, where you get teached how to behave in school etc. I could answer much better if you had specific question. I do think we are better in terms of this, but its not as perfect as in the video of course. I dont know how teachers handle conflicts in the US, but the culture in Denmark is different in general. In the US its more like punishing (both parents and school), where in Denmark its about learning and not doing the same mistake again. The teachers and parents are more likely to have a conversation with you about the problem, rather than just sending you to your room etc. - There isnt detention in school either. You will typically get sent to the office to talk with the principal or get send home straight away if you do something really bad. Used the US as an example, because its the best i can compare to.

Hi Leigh, The Danish Way of Parenting is an excellent resource. it has many references in the back of the book as a very good start. Big Life Journal encompasses many of their teachings too.

Does the Danish teacher training system include teaching the future teachers to solve social problems in the classroom such as bullying or not letting everybody a chance to participate etc.? I just recetnly graduated as a teacher in Finland but I felt that in my school we didn't put much effort in to practicing how to solve these sort of situations in the school life:/ I feel like now I'm just left by myself and my own moral sense to solve these things and tbh, I don't think it's a good idea in a wider scale.

lel Empathy is not even a subject or anything like in the schools here. Does Denmark have also the empathy teaching at high school? It would be way greater than already is. Schools in my country in general do not talk or give lessons very much about it...
