One of my favorites since I was 14. His voice is great. I have to admit I don't care for the treble on the bass. The original was warm, and just felt right. Just my opinion being a guitar and bass player for 39 years.
Lawrence Gowan does a very admiral job on the DeYoung vocals and is a very talented keyboardist. Since they mostly sing the actual Styx Rock songs instead of DeYoung's operas, Shaw does most of the vocals anyway, and sounds absolutely amazing. And the twin guitars of Shaw and JY cannot be matched.

Do you know how many hits Shaw wrote and sung for Styx ? Blue Collar Man (Long Nights) Boat on the River Crystal Ball Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man) Man in the Wilderness Renegade Rockin' the Paradise Sing for the Say Too Much Time on My Hands Just to name a few......

Pretty cool version and only Deyoung could do it ... but the drums were over played....Will never be the same without the nucleus that made it happen! ...This version just needs Tommy and JY...but that aint gonna happen unfortunately...That situation is unfortunately a Grand illusion....And why should the founder of the band have to advertise as Dennis Deyoung and the music of STYX?...That sux and is just part of the politics of music. It will never be STYX without Dennis...JY and Tommy....It would be nice if all members could appreciate the magic they created and be able to get along and do what they all do best collectively! I love you all but it aint STYX without all of you a part of it
What really sucks is that Dennis did most of the writing... Except for Renegade and maybe one or two others. Really ought to be the other way around... Styx performing the songs of Dennis DeYoung. Saw him perform in Nashville a few months ago. His voice and his stage presence is unreal. Tommy and what passes for Styx nowadays can't hold a candle by comparison.
I have seen Dennis DeYoung a dozen times and he amazes me every time. I'm not a fan at all of Lawrence gowans voice on other tracks at all and frankly I would not go see them for free, but he does a decent job at castle walls with Styx. Please support Dennis DeYoung as much as possible. He does not do very many shows and it is absolutely incredible.
@@DWhit52386 You need to brush up on your facts. Tommy Shaw wrote many of the hit songs, and most of the actual 'Rock Songs". Just a few: Blue Collar Man (Long Nights) Boat on the River Crystal Ball Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man) Renegade Rockin' the Paradise Sing for the Day Too Much Time on My Hands Man in the Wilderness Dennis tried turning the band into a sad Opera show and the rest of the band hated it. I actually saw the Kilroy was here concert and it was a joke. That was the final nail for De Young and the band fired him so that they could go back to being Rock Band. The current Styx lineup is amazingly talented and just a joy to watch live.
ya know, the coolest part of the original song on the recording was the OB-X8 Sweeping glides that were supposed to be at 3:30 -3:50 but you couldn't really hear them here. Maybe it sounded better live.
The Styx version with Tommy Shaw, J.Y. Young and Lawrence Gowan blows this out of the water. Tommy and JY have such great chemistry on the dual guitars and sound much better than these guys, and Gowan does a fantastic job on the vocals as well as keyboards.
Durian Durian who cares who wrote it ? Shaw wrote plenty of hits with Styx as well that Dennis plays. I’m talking about the performance and the talent level. There is a lot of talent in the current Styx band and you DeYoung fanboys can’t even see it just because he’s not there.
@@davel7791 You are right about that ! One of my favorite drummers, and this is coming from a guy who grew up listening to Neil Peart..... But the entire band is very talented and very tight live. I see them every chance I get, and they will be here in October. We have to enjoy the old Classic Rock bands that are still around while we can.
Very interesting. What an interesting life mr de young got to experience. The earlier recordings and videos are at first better. But this one is ruined by bad sounds it’s a shame and I don’t know how to tweet this one. It will take a Technician. I think this soundtrack could be enhanced and refined to produce a better effort. Anytime they wAnt to come and play it in my living room. I’m into it.

Totally disagree and this is DDY'S song and still sounds great and plays the keyboards just as good as when he was Styx and watched your singer and the keyboards didn't even come close
