Hey Kids!
Thanks for the great response and comments about the Equinox album I love hearing from you and YES I read all your comments. So many of them I’d like to respond to but as I have said if I don’t answer every question someone will be miffed. And I have given up Miffing for lent. When is lent? That is not a serious question, so all Catholics at ease. I used to give up Oreo’s. And no meat on Fridays. Thank goodness that ended...Mrs. Paul fish sticks...no thanks.
Back to the point Dennis. This is a link to a video I did for Energie a Montreal radio group earlier this year. In three days it received 200,000 views on their Facebook page. Quebecer’s like this tune, they’re very smart. As you know they gave Styx their first platinum album and made us into bonafide headliners in Canada. Selling out concerts in every hockey arena in Canada. My toes are still a little numb. Originally I was going to post this on the 4th of July but I chickened out because I wasn’t sure if I liked my performance enough. See I rarely have had to play the ostinato and sing at the same time because it’s always played on guitar. It ain’t easy. It’s raw and real like BOT at home so here it is in all its natural no frills honesty. The garb is me sucking up to all mes amis au Quebec.
The performance is first but if you have time I talk about the writing of the song afterwards. Have a listen to what for many is their favorite Styx song.
Cheers America America America America!

Lyrics:
Time after time I sit and I wait for your call
I know I'm a fool but why can I say
Whatever the price I'll pay for you,
Madame Blue
Once long ago, a word from your lips and the world turned around
But somehow you've changed, you're so far away
I long for the past and dream of the days with you,
Madame Blue
Suite Madame Blue, gaze in your looking glass
You're not a child anymore
Suite Madame Blue, the future is all but past
Dressed in your jewels, you made your own rules
You conquered the world and more, heaven's door
Oh
America, America, America, America
America, America, America, America
America, America, America, America
America, America,… More

In January 2017 I was so excited to go to my first Styx concert in Reno. I was really hoping to hear Dennis sing "Show me the way". Well I soon realized that Dennis was no longer touring with the band. The current band was just OK , but nothing of it's former self. I felt disappointed and cheated because of that one beautiful song that I'd gone for to hear in the first place. Show me the way speaks volumes about my life and my faith.

Thanks Dennis so very very much for singing Suite Madame Blue for us. It brought nostalgic tears to my eyes. I was a 10 year old when you came came to Toronto and performed this as part of your Equinox tour. It was one of the great thrills of my life frankly. I saw you each and every summer for the following handful of years, as Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight and Cornerstone LPs dominated my record player at home. Styx had a LOT of stiff competition back in those days, but you remained one of my favourites throughout. I think Suite Madame Blue is Styx's greatest song and I often listen to it, even to this day. I totally "get" the America allegory that motivated you, but the song also pulls the emotional strings of reflecting back on a teenage sweetheart one once held an intense passion for. The song's structure is so very sexual with it's soft beginning, great rhythms and intense climax, followed by a quiet move to sleep. The great thing after all these years is that it is clear this song means a lot to you too. For me, this song has a unique meaning I would like to share with you Dennis. Throughout my teenage years, I was intensely infatuated and in love with this gal who was my classmate. I actually first met her in grade 5, the very same year this song was released and I attended the concert. However she became very popular and my love for her went unrequited, but we were friends. At the time, when listening to Suite Madame Blue, I imagined that one day, in the distant future, once she had aged and was no longer desired by the average guy, she would see me in a different light - that as a mature woman she would see the true value in me. "Gaze at your looking glass, you're not a child anymore." So in this song i held my hope for a future with her. 40 to 45 years later, I've had a very successful career, never married, and never have stopped loving her. That gal reached out to me a few years back after decades of going our own way. She's happily married and has a wonderful family. We reminisce and she shares fond memories of me, even admitting that she quite admired me - my character etc. - back in those days. I don't know if she fathoms how fond those memories of our casual friendship are for me. Although she never directly says it, it's almost like she's reflecting on how we could have been great together. I'm not sure I could handle her actually saying that, so best it becomes part of the dream I suppose. I never had the courage to tell her how I felt about her, and although I would have such courage today - I would marry her in a heartbeat - I wouldn't want to disrupt the life she has built with her family. So the irony in your song Suite Madame Blue is that the dream it provided me 45 years ago by looking into the future, somehow lingers to this day, looking into the past but still dreaming of a future. Unrequited love with just a trace of hope and a whole lot of nostalgia. It's a very special song for me with a great deal of emotion tied to it. AND, it is one hell of a tune! "Once, long ago, one word from your lips and the world turned around, but somehow you've changed - you're so far away - I long for the past, and dream of a day with you, Suite Madame Blue." "Time after time, I sit and I wait for your call. I know I'm a fool, but what can I say? Whatever the price, I'll pay, for you, Suite Madame Blue." BTW I went and saw Styx not long ago with Gowan, a local Toronto favourite. A nice walk down memory lane. Gowan does your songs justice, but man it's just not quite the same without you. Thanks for such a beautiful song.

As most people madam blue is my favorite Styx song, next Blue Collar man. I love the new version with just you on the keyboard. I said for 40 some-odd years that you're a genius and you just proved that everyday. Thank you for sharing your music

Watching these videos is like sitting down with your grandpa and having him just reminisce about "the old days" and the lessons we should have learned.

Hello Dennis. I met you in 1996 in the lobby of Second City. You were there with your lovely wife that evening. You were very gracious and kind. Thank you so much for so many years of great music and incredible memories. All the best to you and your family!

Montréal Loves Dennis DeYoung & Styx, and we came on board early!!! One of my early thrills as a teenage concert-goer was seeing Styx and Bad Company on a double-bill at the Montréal Forum, on Monday, April 19, 1976. Officially, Styx opened for Bad Company. For us Montréalais, however, Styx was certainly the main act. Dennis DeYoung’s rendition of “Suite Madame Blue” was the biggest highlight of the evening! Great to see Dennis the lifelong Blackhawks fan wearing Canadiens team garb from Montréal, Québec! We remain big fans!

For some reason this song has always brought me to tears. My favorite Dennis DeYoung (Styx) song. No one has the talent to write deep meaningful songs any longer. This song is sad but hopeful and you are a musical genius who only keeps getting better. I saw your show in Denver, it was fantastic. Thank you for your presence and words that inspire.

Yes Dennis, my favorite Styx song!! I am a piano player and really made my day hearing this all piano version! I'm 58 so I saw you guys more in concert, still have the original albums! I have CD's of all of them too! I was 14 years old when I started listening and going to concerts. Tommy Shaw sat in the floor at the old Charlotte NC Coliseum with just a blue light on him playing the prelude! What a memory! Thanks for sharing! From South Carolina!

Born in 69. Discovered rock music through Styx. First 13 vinyl albums I bought were theirs. Come Sail Away gripped me. At age 41 my six yo son sits in the back seat and asks me to play "that sailing song." So, he and I share our first ever favorite song heard 40 years apart. But, Suite Madame Blue is that song I know as my secret favorite because nobody else I knew liked it. Thanks for all the great musical inspiration and memories, Dennis.

Hard to believe my first record ever was Paradise Theater back in 1981 when I was six. Now 40 years later, I still drop that needle and go back to a more simpler time.
