we need to pray to the GOOD LORD, to be born at 85, and gradually Deage down to 16 year old's, and stay that way forever, the rest is all self explanatory 😇 bless

RIP mate, Im so glad someone was able to film his passion so that others could learn from his years of experience. unfortunately guys like him are a dying breed these days. Im currently building a 62 beetle from scratch for a mate and this video is invaluable for me. Thanks again.

This is the best video I have seen on RU-vid in 10 years, I drive an mk2 and I find it a privilege to watch History and Talent from the People who make America great. Great footage. Thank You! ps Love the racing pictures and the car.

That's unfortunate that Dennis is gone he is a huge wealth of information that man has so much knowledge and know-how about the Volkswagen transmission that is a big loss that was a couple of years ago

I have intermittent clanking noise,like a wrench striking metal and after I hear a very short grinding noise.I do have a leaking irs seal and I am changing the cv and seal hoping it is my cv.Funny it only happens on the ground and if I put the car up and run it through the gears no noise.Almost sound like something hitting the frame,beings it only happens with it on the ground makes me think the cv at a certain angle it lose.If it were the transmission I would think it would be a consistent noise.When I put the car up i did hear a little cv warble and that also could have ruined the seal so I am doing the axle and checking all wheel bearings.I am hoping it is that and not inside the trans,I have no issues shifting at all.I would think if it were the trans it would make the noise every revolution of a gear.

Not really sure how you can appreciate how the gears mesh without using the jig. Knock off teeth from the gears? And what does he suppose to use to bite with? LOL!

thats one of the big problem at age 67 that i realize is , if you have a problem not all the techs know these cars at all ,,,,makes it really hard to fix things at times ,,,,,i was looking for a vid on replacing the nose cone seal or hockey stick or shift rod seal ? thanks RIP

Thanks for sharing Dennis. I just bought an 02 TDI Jetta and I've been hearing the 01m is junk. What do you think? And I hear some people are running there transmission/engine with the cooler line disconnected in order to do a flush. They run it until the fluid is gone or foamy. The theory is it drains all the fluid including the torque converter. What do you think about flushing like this? Do you have any tips to improve this method?

What VWs? I mean they've been made quite a few years and multiple models. I don't think all the transmissions are the same, right?

‘Working with used parts’ happy median’ Surely you order new parts the box needs.

No, the original parts were made in Germany, fantastic quality, they stopped making gearbox parts aprox. 40 years ago. New parts are Brazil,not very good quality but better than Chinese knockoffs, Mexico made them until about 20 years ago approx, good quality for the price imo.

Shouldn't the nose cone hold those bearings in flush?

Can I use 12 volt gears from a 1967 irs van trans in a 1959 swing arm bug tran?
@e-curb
@e-curb 4 года назад
No First, there's no such thing as a 67 IRS Type 2. If you are talking about a stock 67 Bus trans, nothing in it fits into a 59 Beetle trans since that year Bug had a split case trans.
