Came across this a few days ago and God, it's stuck in my head. If they included this, everything from the Cocaine Sessions, and tracks from 1980 like "Stevie" and "River Deep, Mountain High", they would have had a rock solid album to make up for Keepin' the Summer Alive. If I had to give a name for such a hypothetical album, I think it'd be fitting to call it "Snowfall"; a simple word that alludes to the substance that brought most of these songs out and would make sense for a late 1982 / early 1983 release in winter.

@@MajorWolfgangHochstetter "Hal Blaine did all the drumming on their recordings". No, he didn't. This is a myth, and one that has long been disproven. Dennis was the primary drummer on the Beach Boys first SIX albums and the drummer on the majority of early classic Beach Boys singles (it's Dennis you're listening to on Fun, Fun, Fun, I Get Around and Don't Worry Baby, for instance). Around 1965, Brian started to incorporate the Wrecking Crew more frequently, but the Beach Boys still regularly played on their own records. It is Dennis and the other Beach Boys who you can hear on When I Grow Up to Be a Man and She Knows Me Too Well on Beach Boys Today! (1965), both of which feature fiendishly complex drum parts. And it is Dennis and the boys on Girl Don't Tell Me and You're So Good to Me on Summer Days and Summer Nights (1965). The only two Beach Boys albums on which the Wrecking Crew almost entirely took over instrumentally were Pet Sounds and the unreleased Smile. After that, the band resumed instrumental duties in the studio once again for Smiley Smile, Wild Honey, etc. And, of course, it was always the band playing live on the road. So, yeah, Dennis was a very talented musician - a gifted pianist especially. And also a songwriter of genius.

@@MajorWolfgangHochstetter first of all Hal did not. Blaine didn't become more involved until 1965-1967. Get Dennis's 1977 solo album

I had heard about this track but I think this is the first time I've listened to it and I love it. Sounds a lot better with the echo and reverb. Now we know where John Deacon got the idea for Another One Bites The Dust haha!

This sounds like futuristic music! Love it as an instrumental only version! Could go in listening to this for an hour at a time! It’s just not long enough and wish it would repeat about ten times! Would never guess this was done by Dennis Wilson. He had a ton of mostly hidden talent! 😊❤

Dennis may have been a Beach Boy, but his '70s creations were not "Beach Boys" style music. This sound is so unlike Beach Boys music.

It's hard to tell because there's a "10,000 Years Ago" recorded in 1976 and a "10,000 Years" recorded between 1977 and 1978.

This was Dennis Wilson. What's Mike Love got to do with it? He and Dennis hated one another: the one time they ever collaborated was in writing Only With You, which appeared on 'Holland'.
@Angelvelaty
@Angelvelaty Год назад
Firstly, Mike wrote the lyrics to 10,000 Years, which are obviously absent in this version, but he clearly does sing them on his versions from Not War and Unleash The Love. Secondly, there were more Mike and Dennis collaborations than you think. They collaborated on Sounds Of Free and Pacific Ocean Blue title track, which Mike was originally going to sing on.

They hated one another only part of the time, and mostly towards the end.

When watching video of the boys, they normally seem very friendly with each other. I think when drugs became a bigger issue and the philosophy of the band became strained begin in the mid 70s. But after 76 was when it was it's worse.
