+Audioholics do you have to have Mr Guns with you in your reviews? Dude adds nothing other than showing off his guns (which is pretty unprofessional) and is painful to listen to.

Happy Holidays guys! I just wanted to sincerely say thank you for your reply to my issue. I had spoken with dtv and they didn't suggest checking my menu settings. I had forgotten that is there. Thank you for taking the time.

I like a lot of power in my AMPS or receivers.... I just bought The Denon X3100... to have something to listen (it has been shipped) to, until my Carver Mono blocks Silver 7 is upgraded or modified . I think the Denon will be sufficient enough to push my Polk Audio SDA's towers, rated at 4 to 6 ohms load - 95 spl at 1 watt.

Hello Audioholics, can you explain to me why having a subwoofer in a corner gives you a boomy bass instead of a rich clear bass ??? Also, is a 300 watt home theater system too enough for a medium size living room ???

I have literally zero interest in atmos. I think the concept is cool-- for theaters. In the home it's just a little much and some of the points about this receiver and it's complexity to integrate all of the sound formats and options is proof of that. In a world where more and more HTs are being defined by a flat panel and a sound bar is this really the direction home audio should be headed: more cost and complexity? It feels like a desperate move to get people to uprgrade. I for one am very happy with my modest 5.1 (or is that 5.2? I do have two subs) system. If I ever work up the ambition maybe I'll upgrade to 7.1 but I'm not entirely sure it's worth the cost and hassle.

Hey sage, I spent over 20k on my home theatre and I am running it as a 7.1. I also have NO interest in Atmos and make my ceiling into a disco palace. I think Atmos is more like quantity rather than quality. My next upgrade is going from a 50 inch to a 75 inch screen. Atmos et all will fair worse than 3D.

I have setup more than a couple Dolby Atmos setups. I have a 7.1 system that I spent a little over 8K in 2008 in just audio and speaker gear when DTS-HD and DolbyHD was fresh. I spent some time listening to a variety of content after installing at a clients home and made sure that when I got home I fired up my personal system and it was literally boring in comparison. I would suggest that you have a listen. I am a big fan. Even though I don't currently own a system of the nature. I will soon enough...

scarecrowbike Thanks for that comment scarecrowbike. The reason for my 4 year old 50 inch plasma is that I wanted to work on the audio side of things first and get that completed. I am still running a $99 Samsung Blu-ray if you can believe this. I am waiting to get a 4k Oppo and a 4k 75 inch screen. Those are my video plans. I guess that Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was my bank account. All the best.

***** Mike 5 really good speakers will be much better than 11 average ones. This industry needs money by makeover and that will not fair well for them going this route. How about making tvs cheaper like getting 4k tvs the same price as 1080ps at a rapid rate? How about lowering the prices on good speakers from the astronomical levels they are asking for? How about movies priced at a reasonable price.

Hey Gene, I bought the Denon x5200h back in the day for 1600, I stretched my budget for that baby! I had to get the HDMI board once, expensive repair but it couldn't be replaced at the repair cost. Then I was looking to update this yr only for better video, (ultra HD) but I can't justify it. I'm thinking about maybe an external amp, IDK, any thoughts? I'm using humongous JBL speakers all around except for kplisch up firing Dolby Atmos speakers. I wasted 200 on the aurua cause I wanted to have the ultimate experience. Hey, u guys are great, a little out of my league to where my eyes glaze over, lol

One question, if I have a 7.1 system in an open room (living room great room) that is 10' tall, R and L are in wall near the top of ceiling, surround R and L are in wall on either side 12 inches from ceiling. The center in in ceiling 4' from TV and the side R and L are in ceiling half way from TV to rear surround. Hope you can visualize. In the future do you think it will be possible to assign two signals into an existing 7.1 configuration into an ATMOS with out having to add more speakers? I hope you understand the question. I could easily add speakers in my ceiling just thinking out loud that it would be nice to get the atmos effect with a 7.1 set up. Thanks

Hey, guys. I'd like to take a doubt. I have a set of boxes Monitor Auio Silver 300, I am wanting to buy a more modern receiver and I am not knowing which to invest. I currently have a Yamaha RXA 3020. Which would have the best synergy with these boxes? Yamaha, Denon or Marantz? Remembering that my use will be for movies. Hug everyone!

5.1 is more than enough for the average consumer. This will go the way of 3D. The Hulk gave an interesting review however.

I loved the review and I read your 7000 word review as well. I'm still learning about audio and will be setting up a 7.2.4 system in my home. When I play something that is non-dolby atmos will this Denon go back to 7.2 or 7.1. My home theater is in a big room and would like to keep both sub woofers going.
@Audioholics
@Audioholics 9 лет назад
When playing non-Dolby Atmos content, you can use the DSU to still take advantage of the height channels. There is no reason why you can't run both subs at the same time ALL the time. Dual subs offer a great benefit in smoothing out bass response in your room for a wider listening area and also adding a bit more output as well. Good luck and enjoy.

My 2nd question has to do with wireless connection. If I leave my internet open, that is no passed, it connects and I can use hemos internet radio and other services fine. However, when I secure my network, avr finds my network as secure and asks for sped. Every time I enter my passed avr says bad password and doesn't connect. I have changed network password and avr responds the same. Any idea why the avr behaves this way and is there a work around. I have contacted denon tech support. The answer I got was to send unit to service because it should connect automatically. I returned the avr to my retailer and exchanged for same avr new in box. Set up the 2nd avr and I got the same response from avr. Help.

Hi Guys. really appreciate your video chat style presentations-very informative. Hey can you clarify the dialogue from 7:12 into the video to 7:20 please . It's just the wording used between the "Audyssey would then crank-down the main channels- so now they say to whatever whatever whatever to 75db" and so forth. Thanks guys.
@nickvail2210
@nickvail2210 9 лет назад
Hi James. In receivers that possess Audyssey XT32. They have a portion of the calibration where you set the volume level of the subwoofer itself. While the MIC is set in the primary sitting area. It displays on the screen what db level is being produced. You can then turn down or up the volume level on the subwoofer to match the appropriate db mark before you move onto the speakers calibration level. Once set. It goes on to calibrating the speakers themselves. Without that if volume is too high or too low on the subwoofer will off kilter the rest of the setup. Current Audyssey MIC systems less than XT32 will just ask you to put the volume at half point and then go on to calibrate the speakers based from that point.

I just reread my 2nd issue I had commented on. I saw numerous misspellings. This has to do with my denon avr s730h and my wifi home network. The avr detects network and asks for password. But, it responds bad password. After numerous attempts and careful spelling of password, it doesn't accept password. I have changed password to something simple and avr says bad password. The only way I can connect my avr to my home network is to disable my wifi security setting, leaving my network exposed and open. Avr works great at this point. This is my 2nd avr. I contacted denon tech support and their fix was to send avr to service. I exchanged the avr at bestbuy. The 2nd Avr behaves exactly the same. Any suggestions how to correct or workarounds.

I enjoy the technical information you provide on your vids. I have a couple of issues with my denon avr s730h. 1st I can't seem to get Dolby 5.1 surround sound signal from my cab/sat provider DIRECTV. I have hdmi from sat box to cab/sat hdmi connection on back of avr. On the dtv audio/video I have English dolby digital selected. However when I check my info button on my remote the I get the following source: cab/ sat. Sound: auto signal: pcm. I can't seem to get Dolby digital from box. I have 4k blu ray samsung playing it shows Dolby atmos or dts. When streaming service I get did+ . Any idea why I get sat signal pcm?
@Audioholics
@Audioholics 6 лет назад
The box should have a "Dolby Digital or Surround" setting in the audio setup. Check the menus. Also make sure your either using HDMI or toslink out of the box and into your AVR. Good luck.

Can you guys please review the Marantz SR7009 in depth and would you recommend DTS Neo:X processing over the Dolby atmos if you wanted to run a 9.2 or 11.2 speaker setup without speakers that fire the audio up to the ceiling? cause I am 90% certain that Im going to buy that AVR as my upgrade P.S. You guys should use less compression on your videos cause even in 1080p they look blurry
@Audioholics
@Audioholics 10 лет назад
The Marantz SR7009 is based off the lower model Denon AVR-X4100W. You're actually better off with the Denon 5200 for the same price. Thanks for the tip about compression. We are aiming to improve our video quality of our reviews but we aren't Videographers as you can tell.

AudioholicsLIVE Really are you sure and if so how do you know this? Going over the specs of the 2 avrs they seem very similar in many ways. Im looking to replace my Marantz SR6005. Im a fan of both seeing as how they are the same company D&M holdings. but I thought Marantz would be more Superior to the Denon especially for the audiophile, for 2ch music. I know the Denon is rated at 140w per ch at .08% THD and the Marantz is 125 also at .08% THD. both use Analog devices DAC's same chip i think. ? There Audyssey suite is also the same. How do the amps and power supplies in each differ? I was always told that of the 2 Marantz was better. but now Im curious as to why you recommend the 5200 over the SR7009? Audio processing wise they are both the same as far as Dolby and DTS algorithms are concerned. or am i wrong? Video processing doesn't concern me cause I let my Oppo bdp103 do it and route the video straight to my Panasonic Plasma. any and all info you can give me to help me make my decision would be greatly appreciated
@Audioholics
@Audioholics 10 лет назад
***** YES! This was confirmed by my contacts at Denon/Marantz. The Marantz version does have preamp inputs and allegedly a higher end preamp section. However I found the preamp of the Denon to measure very well with plenty of drive to run external amplification if needed.

wait your telling me to use atmos i cant have hi res even on movies? i gotta downsample?
@Audioholics

Most Blu-ray movies have a 48kHz sampling rate so in those cases its a moot point. It's arguable if downsampling a 96kHz signal to 48kHz will be detectable audibly in most peoples systems.
