Do you know what this little bottle is and what it is used for? Join me in the home lab to see how it can be used to determine the density of 100LL aviation fuel and water and some of the consequences for aviation safety.

Helps me buy bits and pieces to make these videos!
Very many thanks, F-J

Flying _recently_ ? I have had to abandon several sessions in the old PA28 owing to gusty winds around EGBW. In the winter I have had to drain quite a bit of fuel when checking for water contamination. It could be worse - my flying pal has been trying to get me to buy a jet trainer with him, and water contamination is more of a problem with jet fuel. But that's a different physics lesson.

Yes, I have been lucky. We have a strict 60 day currency rule in our group and of course the statutory 90 day rule so I always try to stay current. I have been lucky in just picking the days correctly but, my word, we have had a string of non-flying weather. Hope you get airborne before too long! Not sure if you have seen this video of mine - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZvlxJ1oLCb4.html pretty old PA28 of ours, one of the first into the UK I believe. If ever you get that jet trainer I will be knocking on your door for a go!

@@AnthonyFrancisJones I first started in a C152, but since retirement as a Physics teacher (following retirement as a university CompSci lecturer) my girth has expanded such that a PA28 is a minimum.

@@AnthonyFrancisJones Just watching your other video: an interesting question might be to explain the curved prop (e.g. 4:26). OCR B was good at this kind of thing when it was IoP sponsored.

Yes, good point especially with a digital shutter rather than a mechanical one! I enjoyed teaching the OCR IOP Advancing Physics course and back in the day, teaching Nuffield, which I thought was excellent and I still use much of it now especially the electronics bits which are no longer in A Level physics specs.

Did a lot in the 150 aerobat and it was a tight fit for anyone. Trouble with the PA28 as it is almost too heavy for me to manoeuvre on my own. I loved the Rallye we had too!
