Also the majority of the dentist discharged the frustration on the assistant and they have bad deal. If the assistant will be as de RDH union, the dentist didn’t have other option than pay more. But are the assistant don’t respect the profession and accept low income. They are guilty. They cannot work without us.
Right ive now made a my duty to set my asking hourly pay at something im comfortable with because we are definitely over worked ,rushed , sometimes we dont even have time to follow all these sanitary things patients are scheduled minutes after the other , dnt get me started on the offices who dont have a break time set for the assistants u have to take it where u get it. And don't bother making mistakes because you're not human. Its very important to find a good dentist to work with or else this job will make u miserable 🙃
OMG I just started working this week as DA and boy it's alot to keep up with, it's so different when you have to do it for real then in school, especially when they only train you for two days then they leave you in your own 😌
i've been working since december as a DA and still till now i have trouble keeping up with certain procedures. i find Root canals the hardest to set up for due to the different stages but you will be finee
@@Bigworm98 right now still trying to learn everything I'm getting it little by little but the clinic where I'm at they're so helpful, but also when I struggle to take a good impression or a good x-ray sometimes the patients get impatience so they end up requested someone else but can't take it personal
How are you going now? I just started last week with no previous experience or training and finding it difficult. There's so much to learn and remember. Feel a bit like a headless chicken haha
It’s hard auctioning when the dentist doesn’t let you see cus they’re all over with the hand mirror & high speed & gives me anxiety seeing the patient have so much water in their mouth & the dentist won’t let you suction properly cus they want to finish the procedure fast. & it’s hard to retract the tongue & auctioning at the same time & passing the instruments while retracting the tongue
My Lord yes! I hate it when they don't give you the chance to positioned the suctioning right cause the be jumping from place to place and doctor always want to blame you for everything
You can use a mouth mirror or the triplex to retract so you're not suctioning the cheeks. If you use both high and low, you can use the low volume ejector to retract the tongue or cheek. I utilise all of them. It helps a lot. Edit: if you cannot see, stand up or put yourself in a position where you can see. I know some dentists think we can work without vision 🙄 in these cases you have to follow their hands or apply the suction to the molar area and hope you're not drowning the patient or gagging them.
The pen grip with HVE taxes very weak muscles, especially when trying to retract buccal tissues. Use a Jack The Ripper, stabbing grip which offers a lot of power while maintaining excellent control.
High suction disadvantages 1: unflexible 2: big siz 3: can't reach all oral area specially deep area bcs..its bulkness 4: heavy for the assistance to hold 5: bulkness 6: suctin module bulk 7: suction tips or tube rigid and almost straight 8: bending is not available
I'm doing my clinicals right now and working beside military doctors. It's so nerve wrecking. I have to pray and calm myself down before going in every morning.
Omg same I just started as ortho DA last friday with no experience and I try to pray and calm myself every morning before I walk in the clinic. Is get nervous and anxious 😭
@@nakomochi3117 Congratulations! Out of all the specialties I think Ortho and Pediatric Dentistry are my favorite! You got this. Continue to pray because it can be stressful but it can also be fun. It's something we have to get used to. But you can do it!🤞🏽😊
Funny how many patients think is you putting all that water in their mouths when dentist working on them...its like hello dude im the one trying to get all the water out😳
Dentist here...when working on the patient's left side (or in general), learn to suction with a left-handed, underhand pen grip. Retraction or air/water with your right hand will help your dentist see the posterior teeth better, and your suction position will approach from the anterior (out of the dentist's field of view). Your dentist and your wrist will appreciate your new skill!
With practice you can be proficient in this skill… ugh, I wish most of the dds and hygienists comprehend this… some of them expected that the new graduates can actually excelled right away in suctioning 🙄 🤦🏽♀️ 😢
RIGHT. i recently had a job where noone showed me anything but expected me to know everything. And the dentist was getring angry at me for not knowing where to find stuff in just my 2nd week lol ...Sorry i walked out on that job
Wow I've been a dental assistant for 26 years this is a total Overkill I can guarantee you that not very many offices are going to make you wear a disposable gown and put sanitizer on your hands this is really ridiculous
It was my first day of trial and the very first treatment, they ask me to do the suction. I was hell nervous as I was very much concerned about the patient . Hope I don’t hurt them and choke them during the process. I actually thot they will give us some time, but it was too quick and I am still scared to do the next. Is it me who is incapable or it’s normal?
Yeah idk I’ve been an RDA for 15 years and have always seen and I myself have always used my left hand for suctioning unless I’m assisting a left handed Dr. Then I use my right I can suction with both hands but idk that’s just what I’ve always done and always seen.
Exactly, so many things need barriers, expecially the overhead light. I've seen the dental assistant grab by BOTH handles. So it should have barriers on both handles.
Josseline C me too Im thinking about applying to the post office and being a mail lady. I've tried 2 offices in the past year and both offices had the worst energy.
Someone told me that Suctioning will always happen on the left side of the patient's mouth (from the patient's perspective); is it true? what are your comments, dentists?
It depends on where the water is pooling. If pooling on the right side; retract the right cheek with the air water syringe and lay the suction over the tongue slightly pressing down to collect the water.
FYI her mask is on backwards. The slants should always slope down. The lighter side of the mask goes towards your lips and the darker color goes outward you do it this way so water and other aerosol sprays do not sit in the little slats. The outside of the mask has on a special waterproof coating to also help protect against breathing in moisture and aerosols.
My dentist does all the suctioning and triplex, I wish I could do it looks fun. We work a little different I think. We also out all tool on the tray and have it next to him so that he grabs them himself. Instead of me handing him stuff all the time once it's already on the tray. Anyone else work like this?
Yep I do my dentist takes care of her side and does the triplex stuff she also takes care of the light. All I have to do is hand over stuff like etch, bond, composite and I do the curing for fillings. I do the suction though. It must get very awkward sitting there for long period of time 😂
Im learning this in school now. Im left handed. I just found out I have to suction right handed and pass instruments with my left hand as they did in the video. It feels so awkward because I want to use my left hand.... Hopefully its something I can get used to. But does it mess the dentist up if I were to use my left hand instead of my right hand? Im just curious why they insist on the right hand lol.
I cant give much insight in if it bothers them. But as an intern only a week in at the office i’m at. The doctor I assisted let me know if I am a lefty I must have the HVE in my dominant hand, Also he noticed too how much more control I had over the suction. So I think if the Dr is able to work with you in it there shouldn’t be too much of an issue. He even mentioned i’d work best with a left hand Doctor haha. I am still new to the hands on though so it’ll just take a lot of practice till I’m capable of much more.
I sometimes have a problem when the dentist is in a bad mood and yells, with her hands all over the mouth she says suction n when i do she complains of obstruction..Lord!! Sometimes it frustrates and makes me feel incompetent even though im a pro at this
I've got back pain and de quervain tenosynovitis on my right hands. So everyone please respect our job as your assistants, we do our best to smooth the treatment procedures while taking care of the patients. My career for 4 years, I love this job and i love my fellow patients but it is what it is. Got risk behind my gown (PPE) :)
I am receiving on the job training. This is my first week. Any tips? I am struggling. I was a CVT for 4 years and changed career paths. I want to stick with it, but I feel like I can't do anything right.
I’m in 8th grade getting ready to go to high school and I want to be a dentist so I have been trying to watch good videos to show me how things work can anyone recommend me any videos
@@MR-kt1vx job is good.I am liking it.but other assistants and team members don't talk to me.Dentist who hired she is very nice to me overall.if we have gap between the patients .i just stand alone in sterilization room.i tried from my side to be friendly n smiling but it's just closed conversation everytime.
@@MR-kt1vx Little bit depressing but may be with time they will feel comfortable with me.my dentist suggested me to work on my suction holding technique during procedure.
richa singh a lot of offices are like that. The team stick together and is always weird towards a new member it’s normal . But once they see what you’re capable of they will get over . Remember, people will always be afraid of new team members bc they are worried about someone else taking their job or place . It’s human nature to start panicking. But they come around eventually. Just do your best and ask a lot of questions , and always watch how they assist and do things ! You are going to learn so much ! Best of luck !
I wanted to study certificate 3 or 4 dental assistance but when i read all those comments i just scared. Is it worth studying dental assistant or not? Genuinely need help.
As a dental nurse who's working as a dental assistant for many years I suggest you to think twice about this. In my 27 year old I already have neck and back issues and it doesn't really have a good career path. General nurse is better from career path aspect. But it's all depends on your passion.
Use a retraction method with a mirror or air water syringe. Also, the bevel of the hve should go against the tooth or hard surface. You should not suck up their lips or tissue. It can injure the patient. It like a vacuum.
When u have to retrach buccal tissues with mouth mirror yet retract the tongue with cotton roll and suction on lower posterior teeth procedures but yet patients got saliva on their back soft palate, yet the dentist complaining about the light when they move the patient's head frequently. That's gonna frustrate you coz you only have two hands.

Quite different with Japanese dental clinics. First, in Japan, GIRLS are too young and they change her job very often. Also, they luck of medical care. Now days, It's difficult to find a good dental office.
