When getting my teeth moulded for braces I threw up as it was setting due to that very feeling Gavin explained.

“The worst part is getting bored” I mean, of course, you’re getting bored, they’re using a drill!

I also had the goop go down my throat a little bit. I just threw up everywhere. And then one of the orthodontists rushed in to the next room over to throw up as well. Good times.

I will very likely need to get a root canal soon too, so hearing you say "It didn't hurt" helps me a lot ;_;

it's surprising how when i end up going to the dentist, i rarely feel a lot of pain. i think the fear is just the idea of people just shoving twisting, turning and drilling tools into your mouth. like if you slip up or they slip up, what will happen? then they put me on laughing gas, wish just calms me down at best, and i don't mind it once they start. i guess i do get bored like Gus after a minute or so though.

So a kid chokes because of your technique and your response is “sit down”???

JFC Gav telling that story brought back memories so strong I was sitting here gagging in my chair remembering the same thing happening to me and it went up the back of my nasal cavity too. Sitting here gagging and my nose and throat spasming as Gav digs up this primal memory was just insane.

I just want to be knocked out when I do to the dentest. "Sir all we are doing is a check up with maybe a clean." "I don't care! Give me the sleepy gas!"

That happened to me with the goop, it went back a little too far and I was gagging so hard I was convulsing and tears were streaming down my face.

Hated that goop back in middle school. Always tasted funky. Unfortunately I had to get braces a second time recently. On the bright side, they no longer use the goop for the molds. Now they have a machine that scans your teeth via a toothbrush-like device, and those scans are uploaded in real time to a monitor. The end result is a virtual, 3D model of your teeth that the dentist can use for reference. No yucky goop required.

My orthodontist had to do the goop mould 5 times until she was happy with it, and she put more and more in each time 🤕 When she was done she said, “ok I’ve finally got a great mould of your teeth... and your tonsils”.

yeah, orthodontist assistants are always mean/rude. which you think you wouldn't want to be since you're working with younger kids and they don't really respond to that stuff.

Has anybody ever had a good experience at the orthodontist? Whenever I had to get new wires my lady would use all her freaking strength to open and close the thingies, it was like she was smashing my teeth with a hammer. I thought this was just how it was until one day I go in and different lady is there and she's like, "I'm sorry your main lady wasn't here today, but she'll be back next visit." and proceeded to be so gentle. And I'm like, "NO PLEASE can you stay forever!?" She did not.

When I was in bootcamp the dental assistant had no idea what she was doing. All I'd hear is "no that's not right" and then she'd call for the actual dentist to come in to fix what she did.

I agree with Gavin. Getting an upper teeth mold at the orthodontist is the worst dental health procedure I've ever experienced. The goop is so sticky and they put so much that if you have any gag reflex at all you're just in deeply disturbing and unique discomfort with no way out. Its how I imagine a cat feels when they get something stuck over their heads. You like... Know what's happening but your animal brain does not and is like "this is a totally new and horribly uncomfortable experience and I don't know what to do... I don't know what to do! Omg panic! Root canals don't hurt... Your tooth hurts and the root canal makes it stop hurting almost instantly.

Ah, dentist nightmare stories, just the recommendation for me.. currently having my wisdom's tooth doing a medieval butchers surgery on my gums for about a week. With painkillers not really doing anything.

As someone who has braces twice. I completely understand Gavin lol. I know the goop well. The first time I made the mistake of touching my tongue to it. I gagged and the orthodontist got mad since they had to do it all over again.

I went to the dentist for a checkup before college. They xrayed my teeth and found I still had 3 baby teeth with the adults beneath ready to come out, 2 of the babies were done and one needed a filling. So the dentist decided to do it then and there and after refusing to have my mouth numbed (I hate the numbing needle) they spent five minutes fiddling around and were like "all done". I bearly noticed until i sat up, both baby teeth were on the side and I had a new filling on the remaining one. I left and went to college to be called crazy for going through with such a procedure without medication.

Root canal isn't bad at all, after they numbed my mouth it was just a waiting game, i remeber falling asleep during it.

I drink so much soda, rarely clean my teeth and yet every time I go to the dentist they say my teeth are perfect every time.

That's why i decided to get rid of my teeth for dentures at age 30. Granted i do have to keep my mouth clean, and my dentures as well, but that is easy. I still have to go to the dentist to get my gums checked, and my dentures looked at, but the benefits are nice. Sadly i can't eat certain foods anymore.

I remember getting braces, it sucked. The pressure on your teeth when you first get them feels so weird.

I don’t like going to the dentist because the last time I had my teeth checked they said I would have to come back another time. I went to the dentist four times that week because they were taking their dang time doing my teeth. I still need my wisdom teeth out too.

I didn’t need braces but they did the mould for my teeth cuz I had molars removed as a kid before my permanent teeth came in. I threw up the first time cuz I made the mistake of eating before going in... anyways we did a second one and it didn’t have food in it that time lol

We dont have tvs there so on dentists i modtly almost fall asleep and try preventing it

It's a pain to find a dentist to put me to sleep for a cleaning but one too many painful mean dentists have me scared way too much, I used to be okay with it and now I'm terrified, why does this have to be so scary

"Getting a surprise root canal" is one of those stories that sounds too fake to be fake lol.

Not really looking forward to when I have to go to the dentist myself. For several years now, I've had a broken/rotten molar in the back of my mouth due to a failed attempt to pull it out myself resulting in the bottom half of the tooth remaining just above the gumline (to keep it from healing closed) I went to get it looked at a couple of months back and they couldn't even take X-rays because I apparently have a hyper-sensitive gag reflex. Any time they tried to put the plastic piece into my mouth to set me up for X-rays, I started to retch and gag uncontrollably and somewhat painfully. In the end, they told me I would have to see an oral surgeon to get X-rays taken which, I would probably need to see one anyone because they said it wouldn't be a simple extraction, that they would most likely have to cut it out or something. I am just hoping that whenever I go, I go somewhere that can just put me on some gas and knock me out so they can do whatever they need to do while I am knocked out and sleeping.

I got a root canal that lasted around 1 and a half hours and I did not get a TV I got to count the ceiling tiles

Earlier this year, I had two teeth removed. One was a broken tooth connected the nerve which caused me a lot of pain and the wisdom tooth next. I slept great the day I got them removed

Had a tooth pulled 2 weeks ago. Didn’t hurt, but was definitely stressful.

My first root canal I was told I was gonna have nitrous to keep me calm Walk in, sit down, get there tools near my mouth I ask where the nitrous is They say “Oh we don’t do that here” Most anxiety I’ve ever felt in my entire life

I remember a time when I was getting the x-rays done and I was being told to bite down on the strip. Except the strip was positioned in a way that was cutting into my gums really bad. She kept telling me to bite down and Im trying to explain that it hurts and is cutting me, but she's not listening to me and I end up crying during what's normally the most painless part

I’d always heard awful things about root canals but mine was easy and painless. I’ve def had worse fillings. I only had to get molds done once at the orthodontist and even with a bad gag reflex it didn’t bother me. guess I got the good assistant lol.

Yeah, root canals honestly aren’t that bad. The worst part is just getting numbed for it. Take this from someone who’s had their first two root canals this year.

I recently was eating a steak from Texas roadhouse and there were random bone shards in the steak. Bit down and broke my tooth and it later got infected. It ended up being a tooth I previously had a root canal done on and now it couldn't be saved so I had to lose a molar. Going to the dentist is never fun.

God the dentist always freak me out. When i got all 4 wisdom teeth removed a few months back and i was surprised that i had to be awake for it because i always thought it was surgery which is why its expensive. No it just depends on the guy working there. So they just stuffed my mouth with anesthesia and told me there might be some slight pressure. Didnt tske long to remove 3 of them but the tooth on my bottom left side was nearly laying flat and was the worse one. The dentist and his assistant were nice since they noticed i was gripping the armchairs while closing my eyes and said if i needed a break. I said no i just need a second. I pumped my chest almost like Matthew mcconaughey but slight harder, gripped the armchair and said lets do this the best i could because i still have gauze stuffed in my mouth. Also i couldnt feel my face

I feel so bad seeing all these comments about gagging with impressions... Here's some tips: do not move your head back, even better, try to move your head (chin) down. Focus on your feet. Breathe through your nose.

I’ve had root canals before, they aren’t that bad at all in my opinion. I’m actually the one to be there for my parents who are afraid of the dentist.

The same happened to me, except it was about the eye doctor, turns out it was genetic the problem, and i got it from my dad's side also due to it being genetic, i was gonna wear glasses no matter what i did, and i have to come back in 6 months to pivck up my glasses and drops

Well, I'm pretty sure I've got tooth decay... if I had to guess, I would say it's on at least 8 of my upper teeth. On top of that I might as well get my wisdom teeth removed as I can't really reach them with anything other than a toothbrush. (I know how ironic it is for me to say that) but my point is: don't rely on free food at work- especially when it's the same shit over and over again when you're there for 3 weeks at a time like my job. That, and don't wait until your teeth are fucked to start caring about them. I'm barely even 23 and now I need work on not 4... but *12* of my teeth. It's gonna be a fun time when that comes. At least a month or 2 of recovery, and spending the rest of my life cutting back on the shit I loved to eat and drink.
