Let me just say your super incredible for creating that google doc and you’ve been so inspiring in my dental 🦷 school journey I just wanted to let you know I’m super grateful 😊
I haven’t finished the video yet, but 99% of the schools I looked at keep saying the prerequisites need to be taken at a 4 year degree. I’m currently earning my BS at Broward College...isn’t that a 4 year degree?
Hey So I Just finished my first year of College, and my GPA is very low. And the required is 3.6 GPA What advice will you give me to help get a higher gpa and how to fix my low GPA?
Adam W It was never this stuff. Never had drugs or Alcohol in my life. But I did talk to my advisor and I will be re taking some classes that would help boost my GPA above a 3.0 But thanks for the advice
Abdel Bahlaq ya j wanted to make sure ur not one of those college kids that complain abt their grades but know exactly what theyre doing wrong. best of luck man
Re taking classes boosts your gpa very quickly! It’s also helpful taking filler classes that go towards your generals so you’re not overwhelmed with intense science courses
When you mentioned community college credits, i plan on taking 2 year community (financial reasons) and then transfer to a college/uni that offers biology bachelor's degree, will the credits i made in community still be limited?
Thats a great plan because it can save a lot of money! Some dental schools may or may not accept certain community college credits. It might be good to look into the dental schools that you would like to go to and make sure that they accept CC credit. You can usually find this information at each dental school’s website.
Your video is absolutely awesome, I’ve been a RDA For 12 yrs and im looking to get into school to become a Dentist. Im glad I haven’t taken any core classes at a CC or else it would of been in vain.
Hello Jasmine, My wife and I watched a few of your RU-vid videos. We appreciate your time and passion put into your videos. We were hoping you could help us understand a concept that we are not sure of when it comes to dental school. My wife is finishing her AA from a community college (60 units/semester hours). She works so hard and is graduating with a 3.9 and has never retaken any class. She has completed all the pre reqs like Ochem 1,2 chem 1,2 bio 1, 2 etc. Half of these classes she has taken ONLINE at the same community college and half were in person. She did this because it was just a better fit for her schedule. These classes do not state “online class” on her transcripts. They are shown as normal classes. Is her taking online courses from CC and then online courses from a state University a problem? I am getting mixed answers. I thought full online schools were the problem, not accredited classes from normal universities? Thank you again
Hi there, thank you for watching my videos! I think your best bet is to contact the admissions offices of the dental schools your wife would be interested in attending. This way she can ask specifically what the requirements are and get the answer from the source. Each school will likely be different. I wish I had a more solid answer but I hope this helps. Admissions offices of dental schools are usually really helpful and understanding for applicants that have questions about admission requirements.
@@nelsonsuarez2720 Hello, the same exact thing is going on with me right now, let me know if you got your answers and please let me know what they said or what happened.
Hi Jasmine, I first want to say thank you for the video. This was very helpful! I wanted to know if research is a must to get accepted to Dental school?
Thanks for the feedback! No, research is not required. Some schools do like to see applicants that have research experience, and some don’t really care. For example, my school ASDOH doesn’t emphasize research experience, but they do like to see lots of community service. It just depends on the program :)
TheMariagno123 It’s tedious but you have to go to each of your potential school’s website and do some digging. I made a google doc with links to each school. It’s in the description under the video. Hope this helps!
This may be a late question but I hope you answer my question. I really want to become a DENTIST but I need to get a back up incase I FAILED. I will get NURSING as my undergrad major is that okay?
Majoring in science generally ensures that you will take all the necessary pre-requisites for dental school. This is because the courses you take for a science major include classes that are considered pre-requisites for dental school.
It actually doesnt matter but most people get a BS because they end up taking mores science classes to satisfy the the pre-req requirements for dental school :)
Hi! I'd love to do a video on this topic! I will do my research first and start working on it. In the mean time definitely check out Sarah Explores Dentistry, she has many videos on it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6JwcPR1o18U.html. Good luck!
Hi there :) this actually depends on the state that you live in. I would start with seeing what type of certifications (if any) you would need in your state, and I would reach out to dental offices in your area to see if they are hiring and what kind of experience they require.
Hey, So if we take online English classes they won't be count? I'm planning to apply to USC and UCLA... I checked USC's website and they didn't mention anything about online courses.
Good question! I recommend just calling their office and asking them directly. Thats the best way to get the most accurate answer, and don’t worry they will be happy to help!
I’ve seen some people get in dental school with CC credit. They got all A’s, scored high on the DAT and had years of experience as dental assistant or hygienist. And apply to schools you know who are forgiving.
You gave me so much good information, Im looking into becoming a dentist and am about to graduate highschool. Would you recommend a Bachelors in Biology or Premedical Science????
I need a suggestion, plz reply. I have completed my BSC in biology. My cgpa is 2.90. Now i want to join dental school. As you mentioned about prereq classes. How can i do this classes? I mean where are these classes available?
Hi! you would just need to take them at any accredited university or community college if the dental school you plan to attend accepts community college credit. I hope this helps 🙏
When calculating your science GPA, is it all of the science related classes combined, or is it calculated only the science pre reqs required from the school?
Honestly don’t let that discourage you!! There will be a couple math related courses on the way but you can do it. I know a lot of math challenged dentists 😇
Hi Jasmin! First of all I wanted to thankyou for all the information that you share in your videos! I love the way you explain everything!!! I wanted to ask you about what it is the shortest way to get to a dental school... because I am in an associate in biology program but I have also been considering to change it to dental hygiene??? What would you recommend, which one will work better?!!! Thank you in advance
The quickest way would be to just take the required prerequisites for your desired dental schools at a university, take the DAT, then apply to dental school. Technically you dont need a bachelors but it is highly recommended to increase your chances of getting accepted so that is what most people choose to do. I think the best option is to either pursue a bachelors degree and get the prerequisites done, or go to a program that you would earn your bachelors as well as a degree in dental hygiene. From there you will be able to apply to dental school as well. Hope that helps!
Triet Nguyen Which school are you applying to that requires physiology? The best thing to do would be to call that dental school and ask them directly. Best case scenario: they make an exception because your program doesn’t offer it. Worst case: they will need you to take physiology at a different university/college. Good news is, there are still many dental schools you can apply to without physiology :) Hope that helps!
General chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, some biochemistry. These classes are all required anyway. Also make sure you are prepared for the math section (algebra, trig, geometry, etc), reading comprehension, and PAT section.
Dang! Sorry you have to retake them but dont worry! Use this time to amp up your application and get some experience shadowing/assisting/research too! Everything is meant to be 💜
I volunteered at my local hospital for 100 hours and stopped because I didn't find it meaningful, then I volunteered with a human rights organization and loved it (currently at 50 hours) but know it will add up by next year when I apply. Do you advise me to do a third experience of volunteering or just focus on my second one that I find meaningful?
Bro I don't even want to be a Dentist but this made everything much more simple and interesting definitely will consider it an option currently going for a business major right now though .
You would need to take a 200 level biology class. Each university might have a little bit different of a name, but at my university it was called “BI 211 & 214 Principles Of Biology I”. Usually it is offered with or without labs, but you would just choose to take the lab as well along with the lecture class.
Hi i’m an international student currently doing A levels and it’s quite competitive getting into dental/medical schools in the uk and canada. Do you think if I do BSc Phycology (in canada for example) it’ll put me to an advantage? Also for shadowing dentists, I can still do it whilst doing my BSc degree right? Thank you in advance!💗
Also if you wouldn’t mind me asking what age did you join dental school in? As an international student i’m 19 and only in A2😭 that means i’ll only join dental school when i’m 23/4, which isn’t a problemm but i’d just wish it would’ve been sooner.
Psychology is a great major for dental school! As long as you take all the required pre-reqs I would say this is a good route. I. wouldn't say it would be a particular advantage for every school but some programs might really like it. Yes, you can shadow at any time leading up to dental school and even during dental school if you wanted to. I started dental school at 24 :)
I am not a traditional student I currently attend an accredited community college in the state of Texas ( LSCC ), and due to the pandemic I had taken some of my pre-reqs Online but I am graduating this fall with my AS I plan on transferring next fall to a 4year University to finish my bachelors hopefully all in person 🤞🏼 That being 70/30 % of my classes being done via online over the past year 1/2 with my (AS) The science classes I have done do offer lecture & lab via online Should I be worried??? I know transferring to a 4 year undergrad won’t be an issue it’s once I transfer to a dental school I worry my classes I took for my AS won’t be enough Will they look that far back and disregarded my AS degree and the courses I’ve took?? I am really worried 🤷🏻♂️ I also checked my transcript and it doesn’t show if I took online vs person I will advise to avoid the colleges that do not accept community college
I am an international dental grad. Are my grades gonna be count if I apply with my foreign diploma instead of American majors and so on? (International program is not my option).
That is a great question! Unfortunately I dont know the answer :( My guess is that you would need to have credits that are transferable to American universities. The best thing you could do is call the admissions office of one of the dental schools you would like to apply to and ask them. They are so helpful!
if the prerequisite says one year of biology, what does that mean? Can i just take year 1 of Biology and be done with it, or do i have to take biology all four years that is both semesters?
Hi there! Biology is definitely going to be a required pre-requisite for every dental school, also it is on the DAT so taking it would be really helpful for that as well. Hope this helps!
Not too late at all! my freshman year I was an international studies major, and sophomore year I was a business marketing major then I finally found dentistry.
So if I’m correct it’s prerequisite classes get good grades, take DAT test then apply to a dental school? Or do I have to have a bachelors degree before applying as well.
hi, I have a question. do I have to do pre-dental during undergrad, or is it okay if I just major in biochem? some schools that I'm considering dont have it, and I was just wondering. thank you!
Thank you for the video.. please how can I get the required credits ? I don't know how to start..I have a Master's in accounting and I want to study Dentistry in USA
Hiii so I did a little bit of research for your question. I think what you will need to do is to take the required pre-requisites (like biology, chemistry, physics, organic chemistry) and take the TOEFL exam. I would start by looking here to get more information: www.adea.org/GoDental/Non-traditional_Applicants/International_students.aspx
The pre-requisite courses are what you take in college as a pre-dental student, then you will be eligible to apply to a DMD or DDS graduate program where you will be a dental student taking dental courses.
@@jasmineahrar ohhh…. And can I study pre-dental when my academic background is diploma in animal science? I realized I want to be dentist only after I finished my diploma in animal science. So, can I still do pre-dental? Finally, the list you have made are for dental school. If possible, could you please also make a list of university where we can study pre-dental? Doesn’t have to be included all the university but just some cheapest universities? Thank you for your information :)
It's so frustrating how dental schools have different prerequisite classes. It took me some time to figure out what i wanted to do and my future goals. I have about a year of undergrad left but all the required classes are really holding me back. Maybe it's too late for me
Usually its just for the required pre-requisites (science courses), but its possible that some of those courses are allowed to have cc credit. You would want to check each school’s admission requirements individually to see their specifics. Hope this helps 🙏
Sorry the link is giving you trouble. I double checked with a couple other people and it seems to be working for them. Did you try on a computer while signed in to your google account?
@@jasmineahrar career.ucsd.edu/plan/explore/pre-health-med/dentistry/index.html Then whats the difference between dental school and the university offering it as a major? What is it that UCSD offers then, is it not typical dental school as well? I'm a little confused
@@jasmineahrar actually your right, I just investigated it. Question for you though, since you are going to a school in AZ, are you paying out of state tuition for your first year?
I’m guessing its a pre-dental major? And ASDOH is actually not a state school so there is no difference of tuition for in-state or out-of-state students :) still expensive!
