Hi Guys I have a question about bitewings............. So if I had a 6-7yr new patient, first I would request an OPG but would I need to take bitewings for a base line or is this too much radaition? is this common practice to do both?
@TwoDentists
@TwoDentists 3 года назад
In the UK, FGDP radiography guidelines indicate that OPGs aren't ever taken routinely. There needs to be an indication, such as lower wisdom teeth proximity to ID nerve or for orthodontic treatment. Bitewings should be taken routinely and this is based on the child's caries risk how often you take them so that you can assess if there are any interproximal caries to aid your examination because you won't be able to see caries here visually. I hope that helps 👍🏼

@@TwoDentists Hi guys, also if a patient was wearing braces with ceramic brackets and had incipient caries on buccal surfaces and one occlusal surface would it be a better idea to wait till the braces come off in 6 months time?

Is the any GDC guidelines for Radiographic reporting?
@TwoDentists

Radiographic guidelines are from IRMER and IRR. Not directly the GDC. There are other articles which can be used for support also.

Can you please do a video on all of the terminologies we use in dental radiography? Like can you explain them in your next video, please.

Hey Fareeha, we're working on something slightly different at the moment that we're quite excited for so it might be a while before we release a video on radiological terminology! Is there anything specifically that you've heard of that you don't understand or you don't really know what it means, maybe we can help 😊

No, i'm just having a really hard time understanding with radiographic findings, like for example in ameloblastoma we can see honeycomb appearance but i don't understand how can I identify it in radiograph.

Yeah i understand where you're coming from. I feel like the most important thing is to be able to recognise what an ordinary, healthy patients radiograph looks like and with that information, be able to identify a problem and refer it with with a good description of what you can see. You can use the following to describe it: Site, size, shape (round? Unilocular?), outline (well defined? Corticated?) and radiodensity (uniformly radiolucent?). Radiology to do with oral medicine is a huge topic and would need more than just Zoh and I to cover and so the difficulty is in finding someone with the appropriate level of knowledge to feature on our channel. If we manage to do this, it would be great but i honestly can't promise anything in the near future on this topic becuase of that reason. We really appreciate the suggestion though, thank you! -Ali
