The crazy thing is while Marty made a mistake going with Grbac and he's notorious for playoff meltdowns, the Browns and Chargers have never really recovered since they let him go and the Chiefs took about 2 decades to recover and outdo him by winning the Super Bowl.
Always thought Grbac got to much blame for the L in this game. He really made some great plays under duress from a Denver pass rush that had the KC o-line beat almost off every snap. As usual, Marty went Marty in the playoffs: Not taking any deep shots early. Even the fake punt late they’d have been better off just straight up going for it with their offensive personnel then with a punter running.
Yeah but Gannon had the hot hand going into that playoff game they should of started Gannon and if he would of been struggling then put Elvis in after halftime but that's just my opinion maybe Marty knew something behind the scenes that we didn't know?
@@kenokiehne6346 Yeah Grbac had gotten injured earlier in the season and Gannon came in and out performed Grbac in my opinion and then the playoffs came and Marty played Grbac because he was healthy from his injury and to be fair Grbac didn't play horrible in that playoff game against the Broncos but I just felt they should of started Gannon because he had the hot hand and who knows Gannon could of put up a quick 2 or 3 touchdowns or at least did better than what Grbac did and if Gannon didn't perform well by halftime then put Grbac in. But anyways after we lost that playoff game Gannon went to the Raiders the next season and eventually goes to the Super Bowl so that just showed that Gannon was the real deal.
thats because this is 1997 and rich gannon was not that good up to this point and he will later gain success with jon gruden and the raiders in 1999 meanwhile elvis grbac in 1995 and 96 was 49ers back up but steve young was hurt alot so elvis was playing really good those 2 seasons which was what got him the starting job with chiefs in 1997
@@TransKingFormers I remember his career vividly and remember him playing well but always getting passed up for the next supposed hot gun. Gannon was always good, he just hadn't run into a coach who believed in him enough to be the full time starter until he met Jon Gruden. His story is not unique, other players went through similar things. What's sad is that most of those guys never get the shot Gannon did.
@@AllPro777 yup while Gannon got be league mvp and start in a superbowl elvis grbac was lucky that 49ers offense made him look good when he had Jerry rice,Brent jones and even a rookie Terrell Owen's but elvis pretty much never had success as a starter after he left left 49ers
@@TransKingFormers My lasting memory of Elvis Grbac was of him crying on the sideline when he blew the season while having one of the best defensive units ever behind him in Baltimore. If I recall correctly, he never played again.
Criminally bad clock management by the Chiefs at the end of the game - they had a first down at the Denver 28-yard line with 1:51 remaining and took the whole rest of the clock to get just four more plays off. Doesn't matter whether you are out of timeouts or not, that is inexcusable.
What a phenomenal game. I was 14 years old. The Browns had left. I was now a "I will watch the NFL Playoffs neutrally" fan. I was always a fan of football, but this game made me appreciate the game, if that makes sense.
As much hate as Grbac and Marty get for this game, if Stoyanovich, who was usually money on FGs, makes a 41 yarder, the Chiefs win as they were well into FG range.
What's that, make a loud mouth, jackass out of himself? Never could stand him. Too bad he wasn't in that car, instead of his wife. He is an absolute blowhard, beyond belief and his stupid nicknames are flat out ridiculous. "George Taco Bell". hahaha, so funny. a 5 year old could've come up with that. I will celebrate the day this blowhard either quits or gets fired from ESPN. 🤢🤮🤢🤮🤮🤮
100 percent!!! That field goal in the beginning should of never been called back. The ref probably had Denver for the game. Who calls a holding penalty on a field goal?
