What a wonderful documentary, thank you for not skipping over the effects of climate change on that most magnificent destination, I was there last summer and it exceeded all expectations. Just off of Trail Ridge Road is Old Fall River Road, you must do the 3 hour Jeep tour up this road (you can also drive your own vehicle up this dirt road) and it stops at the visitor center on Trail Ridge Road, it is amazing views of stunning beauty, and also, sadly, scores of dead Lodgepole Pines, killed by the Pine Bark Beetle.

Lived in Estes Park over 30 years, I remember Hidden Valley ski area. The park service turned off the water for snow making they needed to keep the lower lodge area covered with snow. They would haul snow in trucks to the lodge. The park made it impossible to operate so they closed.

Yet it's closed every winter now and prices are obscene.

That's not true. Trail Ridge Road is closed in the winter yes but the park is open and accessible. The price for a single day pass is $30 to enjoy a gem in the National Park System - an annual pass to access ANY National Park is like $80 or $90 so an amazing value.

@@williamponton7005 No Skiing was my first thought. Prices keep going up was my second thought. Jan 26th Anniversary. I lived in Estes... The town dies down dramatically every winter. 5 million plus visits May thru October . Nov thru April.... Mostly just residents.

The fire thing was misleading. This is from research done over 10 years ago, on my office computer…..and I have retired. As I recall the trees are well past the normal life span. Bark Beatles are drawn to older weaker trees. Much of western Colorado has not burned for a long time. No fire, lots of fuel loading, lots of fuel equal a hot fire. I am a meteorologist, the Western US does not have a constant water year like the Ohio Valley and Mid Atlantic States. The Western US has water 1/2 centuries. Year to year fluctuations are profound. Just look at the Colorado River Water Compact, based on 3 of the wettest known years 192?-192?. That is why more water is allocated than flows down the river some years. Global Warming is always the knee jerk reaction.
