mzeroa.lpages.... Class C might be smaller in theory than Class B airspace but the radio communications can be just as complex. In todays video I take you from the FBO all the way to approach.
Take a 2 week trial of our online ground school at the link above

Anybody else watching this on the fly to make sure they don’t forget to do anything before departing a class C

After a 25 year layoff from flying, I decided that it was time to get back at it. The technology in the cockpit is truly amazing, and that has been the hardest thing to learn - along with listening and remembering what ATC tells me. That being said, I listen intently to the radio talk on your videos, as well as other You Tubers. I believe I picked up a minor error when you took off from Sarasota and called Departure. I believe that you called them Sarasota, and not Tampa. The controller didn’t mention it - I assume because he knew you wanted to be talking to him. I’m not trying to be picky - I just noticed it because I was expecting to hear something else. I started my latest training at KSGJ, so if you happen to be coming over, let me know and I’ll buy you lunch (or dinner). Love the videos. Dave

Nice real world. Like how they switched freq's. I find that happens a lot as the Class C controller might be working all three (clearance, ground and tower). One time departing Billings MT... the same voice handled all three and then when I switched to regional departure, he was working that as well.
@brandonnolker5965
@brandonnolker5965 3 года назад
Sounds like flying an L39 Albatros gets you a lunch date with the tower. I’m sure requesting an initial with midfield break in a 172 wouldn’t get the same response. 😂

At 7:40, you can hear the tower controller quickly thinking of the phraseology for an overhead break maneuver and failing to remember it. Perfect example of why pilots shouldn’t be afraid of ATC; they’re humans as well!

Hey Jason. A good segment from this great Class C video would be explaining VFR Arrival Routes like the ones we use in SFB’s Class Charlie Airspace. I never knew VFR arrivals existed or even how to fly them until I became a CFI and started teaching out of Sanford last year.

Brings back fun memories of doing PPL out of grass field Bayport (23N). This was a Class G cutout under Long Island MacArthur (ISP) Class C airspace. Because the floor was 700', and then 1500' over water to Fire Island, you could request a Class C Transition. On the ground at 23N I would get ATIS and then speak to Clearance Delivery for the request and squawk code. After takeoff, switch over to ISP TWR, and wait for clearance to climb to my cruise altitude. Great experience working the radio, and by Fire Island I was up at planned cruise altitude. Then I got flight following for all my cross countries. LOL! Great job MzeroA.

I really enjoy the videos. I've been a subscriber going way back to my student pilot days..(last summer :) I earned my wings now but have always had a question about flying thru Class C airspace. My question: I take off at a Class G airport and fly VFR towards my destination class G airport which is on the opposite side of a class C. I contact approach and they give me a squawk code. I then pass thru the Class C enroute to my destination airport which less than five miles outside the class C boundry. When I get close to my airport but still in Class C airspace and I want to switch over to my destination airport's CTAF. Do I first need to contact approach or do I just switch my transponder to 1200 and switch my radio to the CTAF and then land OR do I contact approach first?
@scooter39045
@scooter39045 4 года назад
G S I think it would be good to ask for a frequency change beforehand. Just talk to approach and say “request frequency change to X airport CTAF” and they will say “frequency change approved , squawk X” and they might say “radar service terminated and maintain VFR” which basically means they won’t watch you anymore.

those sheep skin seat belt covers are worth there weight in gold. I bought two on Amazon, and accidentally left one in the plane. Students started to use it, and told the owner they wanted them in all the planes. Now all of our planes have them. I was so sick of that seat belt slicing my neck when I would lean forward. Loved this video Jason, hope you do another seminar in Orlando soon.

Hi. If you’re going to do touch-and-go’s at an airport within Class Charlie Airspace, do you need to contact Clearance Delivery before Ground to get a clearance info that airspace, or does Ground coordinate that with TRACON?
@wardmd

Very nice! Yeah, I've been away from flying for DECADES (but I still listen to ATC Final Approach to LAX [just for fun]). I did EVERYTHING for my private pilot license (except for the final check ride). It was VERY reassuring to follow along with EVERYTHING that happened there (except for the avionics: I didn't have autopilot, etc.]). If I could afford it, I'd be back in the cockpit (in my own plane)! Oh, I learned at El Monte (EMT) in a Cessna 172/T (N734UV [I can't believe I remember that, after all this time])! Thanks, again, for your video and courses!

Home airport is Class C. With constant exposure to it’s more complex radio operations, it makes everything feel like cake once used to it. At my Class C (KLEX), we don’t use clearance freq - rather contact ground right off. Occasionally ground will setup VFR flight following for us without asking.

When you're checking flight controls, I noticed you do it in like 2 seconds, how do you know if your elevator isn't busted for example? On run up im looking left and right at my aileron and verifying, and looking at my elevator and rudder as well while looking back. You just do the flight control flow without actually checking. What's going on? If my DPE catches me do that the flight would be over

I’ve heard that if you have two radios, you could dial up your departure frequency in your second radio just so it’s in front of you when you’re doing your read back. Of course; you’d put it to Guard (121.5) or the destination ATIS in when you’re ready to fly. Just a handy memory aid.
