Thank you! Great video. There is just one little discrepancy. As a skydiver from long, long ago (I learned jumping the old para-comander round canopy). Nevertheless, at the end of the video he says "The way a skydiver would deploy their parachute." Actually that's the way a parachutist would cut-away a bad chute to then deploy their reserve parachute. I almost didn't mention it - but then I remembered that comments raise the algorithm RU-vid uses to rate videos, and hey this video deserves a very good rating! Thanks again!

Small point, and perhaps I'm missing something, but the 2" to 8' thing at the beginning, wouldn't that depend to some extent on the size of the strap etc that you were wrapping?
@smithchasea
@smithchasea 3 года назад
It will definitely depend on the width, length, amd thickness of the strap you are wrapping it around. That said, you could start out with a very long length of chord and wrap it till you get where you want, finish off the wrap and call it good without worrying about getting a certain amount.

This is very handy information for camping. It's an easy way to carry cord without it taking up space inside a pack. The knots that you tied at the ends of the paracord are not scaffold knots. They're Double Overhand knots. Scaffold knots creat a loop.

This reminds me of a trick I learned when I was picking up how to lace wires/cables from a transcription of a VERY old US Navy manual. Specifically, when the first knot is tied to bundle the wires into a harness, the free end is pulled under the whipping using either an initial bend or loop as you've done for this wrap, OR with another piece of cord/tape. This ensures that the free end of the knot isn't frayed.

Funny... I recently got a sling bag from Alpaka and was annoyed by the noisy zipper pulls, so I wrapped some green twine around them. By chance, I used the same knot. I guess it's quite intuitive.
