My kids grew up, my wife left I spent 40 years working hard and putting kids through college and not keeping relationships with friends. Suddenly found myself utterly alone for the first time in my life. Sank to a very dark place. Planning to start traveling this year. Planning to attend the 2020 RTR

Guess what? We all wind up alone.,, if you live long enough. I have outlived my husband and most everyone I have known and I'm only 58. Its a tough thing. What Doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. And we have been brainwashed to believe that we can only be happy if we have friends and family and spouses . that is total b.s. I am more happy now than I have ever been. I can do what I want, when I want. Finally.

You know, there are "cures" for depression which come with side effects. It would be worth it to try a simple, cheap "cure" as an experiment. At worst it would be ineffective. There is little to lose and much to gain. It's cheap, too and is accessible to all and has few bad side effects. Add modest exercise to that same list. 👍

What is my purpose in life? I asked the void. “what if I told you that you fulfilled it when you took an extra hour to talk to that kid about his life?” Said the voice. “Or when you paid for that struggling young couple in the restaurant? Or that time you saved that dog in traffic? Or when you tied your father’s shoe for him?” “Your problem is that you equate your purpose in life with goal-based achievement. The universe is not interested in your achievements… just your heart. When you choose to act out of kindness, compassion and love you are aligned with your true purpose in life. No need to look any further”. Anon.

Bob, you graciously answered an email I sent to you when I knew this life was for me. I told you about my daughter committing suicide and how I felt. I feel like I can breathe out here. I relate to all you said and went thru those same feelings after she passed. She left because she felt she couldnt live up to society's requirements for "success"...she had no hope and left here. I finally bought my RV named her "Hope" and am living my life on my terms (as much as I can right now.) I've only been on the road a week 1/2 now but have committed and going full time her. Currently working remote with a job that will find last another few months. My life is now a serious step out in faith. I can't thank you enough. Depression is real and something lots of people suffer with and many in silence and secret.... I appreciate you shining a light on this and the organizations that are out here to help

I saw the video in my list this evening as I settled down to try to "come down" from my day. As I started listening to this lady's story I have to say it blew me away. I, too, suffer from bi polar disorder (and narcolepsy without the cataplexy). What spoke to me was that Joanne's story was like listening to someone tell my life's story over a RU-vid video. It was a moment that made me feel like I wasn't alone. I too had a family and a career. I had a marriage until this past August after 23 years. My symptoms cost me a career about 8 years ago in a laboratory in a major health clinic. I had to get out- patient care once to get some intensive treatment and then the next time over the fact that I felt I had no purpose after my home state sent me a letter that stated I was unemployable and not qualified to get unemployment which made me seek SSDI. We had a small farm at one point but bad decisions (believing in the wrong people in my life and not having the capacity to see what was happening with the money) put an end to that. However I will say that I learned that environment had a lot to do with how my symptoms were triggered and how my illness escalates in a given situation (living in town in a rental I never wanted but felt like I was obligated to feel thankful I had it)compared to when I was in the country and away from the triggers. I had more functioning days and I could think clearer. I rediscovered nomadic living videos and was particularly drawn to videos such as this channel and others and how healthy and at peace they seemed to be. I need that unfabricated and uncomplicated life that will help me be who I once was before things got bad. At this point now I'm divorcing and I learned this rental is being sold; both were a complete surprise. I'm unmedicated because my income limits ( I get SSDI and a pension) are a little over guidelines and medicare doesn't cover prescriptions. I really miss my therapist at times. I get told I'm going to end up making hard choices and I should "just go back to work" . Well, I do have some friends and family who understand me and what would help me become healthier and encourage me to work towards my goal. This gives me so much hope to hear this woman tell her story and see she has succeeded and is now ABLE TO GIVE BACK. Thank you for this.

When my money runs out by the 20th...yeah...I'm not sure what to do.
@thisorthat7626
@thisorthat7626 4 года назад
@@Sweetwildflower , I would suggest you set proirities and start there. If money is the highest priority then get a job to make sure you have that covered. Without money other things are more difficult as you know. However before you take a job make a list of what you need from a job and then look for jobs that fit that criteria. I need to work around people but be able to work on my own. Then focus on your needs and look for something that fits. Are there temporary jobs that you could do while you figure things out? That way you are bringing in money while you are not tied down to one job. If your instinct is telling you to move on, then listen to your feelings. Arizona isn't that far from Utah and the snowbirds are creating winter jobs. Perhaps a new environment is what you need to stimulate your job seeking and your hope. Ask for what you want and believe you deserve it. Things will work out. Blessings!

Keep trying out there. I feel I chose my life and everything good and bad in it. Why? To learn lessons, re-pay past debts, to sacrifice in offering myself up to help my loved one resolve their spiritual debts. I believe this is done before we are born. Why? To better my soul in it's preparation for Heaven. Lost my oldest son to a stranger murdering him. It's complicated, but this makes sense in getting that answer Bob was looking for. His answer became service to others. What's yours? When your world falls apart, you need to find the "bigger picture" answer. Think about it. We choose our lives and our deaths before we are born to heal ourselves and others we love. Our suffering leads others in how we learn to grow from it. We are all connected! Keep your contract with God. Learn. Grow. Become that wise old soul ripe and ready for eternal peace.

Interesting. Ever since my husband passed away in July of 2014, I have been obsessing about going nomadic. Grief was very hard on me (I found out that it's never easy to loose your spouse to death - and no, it is NOTHING LIKE DIVORCE! My husband and I were still having fun in each other's company after nearly 3 decades together.), and it was complicated by depression due to profound poverty... Because I was widowed at 55 (look up SS regulations on survivors benefits. Dickensian!). I learned that heart break is an accurate description of a physical phenomenon, and I learned I hadn't had my heart broken until then. Add in ageism in my previous career since I was 50. When I was 28, my best friend from my first college committed suicide. I saw what that did to his family. I also knew that was never something he would have intended, ever. Certainly nothing I would do to my family. On the other hand, I didn't give a damn if I died, as long as it was not by my own hand. The thought of going nomad has kept me from just curling up and waiting to die. It has been something to aim for these past 5-1/2 years. Granted. Sometimes I curl up. I think that's a depression thing, when I feel too much feels. But eventually I will get up. While I am curling, I am thinking about the how can I get this or that done. Sometimes I even succeed in a solution. Right now, I am just looking at finding that vardo... The box where my ideas, that I have been churning over, can come to fruition. So, anyrate, needless to say, I am very interested in this.

Thank you both for your transparency & willingness to share your story. While I'm not a nomad (maybe, one day?), but I've fought major depression since I hit puberty @ 10. I'm 64, now. Sometimes, I haven't felt like I could continue, however, someone has always, incredibly, come through & helped me to get thru. Losing a child, Bob, seems to me to be the worst thing that could ever happen to a parent. My heart broke for you. My sweet husband is there for me, as are our 3 dogs, one of whom, Björn, literally saved my life. I couldn't see a way around or through & he gave me a renewed sense of being needed & loved. I'd say most people endure episodes of depression, but not all deal with it day in & day out, as I & so many do. This is a vital message & how wonderful you two have teamed up in this. Blessings & sunrises to both.

Thank you for doing this video. I've suffered with depression/anxiety/panic attacks for the past 31 years. I've been on almost every anti-depressant there is. And then almost 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and a chronic pain/chronic fatigue disorder and the depression got way worse. I'm currently on 2 antidepressants and an anti-anxiety. Part of why I want to live a nomadic lifestyle is because it seems like I could really focus on some emotional/spiritual healing. Living in a toxic environment with all these distractions has been overwhelming (to say the least). I'm glad there is some help out there. Thank you, again.

Excellent direction for this channel, Bob!! This is an extremely important video...(so sorry about your loss, though.) Many of of us have been struggling for years with these kinds of issues and are trying to figure out a plan as we can not make ends meet in the future but the change to road life and the unknown seems overwhelming on top of just trying to function everyday. This group, their support and their ideas are much needed for people getting started! Bravo!! Five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thanks Joanne! You both seem to have hit on the answer - social connections. I also like these as adjuncts: meditation (mindfulness especially), tapping (eft), exercise, taking supplements like 5mg of lithium orotate (I get it on Amazon - heard about it from Timothy Ferris), having daily ritual routines, etc. I want to get a dog too. I'm not a nomad, but enjoy seeing these great videos and may - one day - venture out.

Thank you for bringing up this subject of depression and anxiety and other mental health issues, I am not currently a nomad as of yet but it is in my life plan. I live with PTSD and depression also. I've really been wondering if a nomadic lifestyle would even be doable considering my issues... It's great to hear that others with the same issues are flourishing even with the debilitating effects of their mental health. It gives me hope that I can possibly do this myself. So thanks again for addressing this so some of us out here on the fence can actually attempt doing something they may never thought possible. 💗

Ran across this and am supportive of this outreach. I sought help after at age 53 I became the victim of some deep corruption where I had lived for over 42 years, and thru my naivete I was wrongfully evicted from my home and became homeless. I was forced to live this life that some choose , and I had to learn how to live with my dog in this lifestyle of living in a van in of all places the most expensive city to live in in all of the United States of America - San Francisco. 6 months after I was forced out of home of over 4 decades, and while I was still learning how to cope with what I never had to deal with before (honelessness), my companion for 11 1/2 years , Buddy Boy, my 11 pound soaking wet Toy Fox Terrier and best friend came down with liver cancer and started wasting away before my eyes. I was forced out of our home, and now I was forced to put down my one and only true friend I had on the planet. I couldn't let him suffer like this. It was the hardest thing I ever had to decide in my life. So 6 months after being forced into homelessness I found myself all alone for the first time in my life. Completely alone, which looking back on it now I had never had to deal with this isolation before, and it was like hitting a brick wall that I didn't want to have to deal with, and I became seriously suicidal. I told a friend, a couple actually, who lived in the same complex I had been evicted from and who had been supportive if me and Buddy while I tried dealing with all these new thing I never had to deal with before, and Bill (not his real name) told me to go to the OMI Family Center - a mental health facility for outpatients here in San Francisco. Bill told me that's where he went after his middle son was murdered because he became suicidal and was driving around town with a gun in his lap looking for his son's murderer which he knew was crazy.... His wife made him go and he got the help he needed. So I did the same and checked myself into the clinic. 3 months after that I got another dog named Pali. And 6 months after that I got on SSI and have been on psyche meds since because I learned I had been fighting depression my whole life and needed to learn how to deal with it in my own as I made my way forward in kife. I am now 62 and still am homeless, but things are much better now. I still battle with depression that will never really go away permanently, and that still comes and goes from time to time, but I've learned to manage it much better now than I had before throughout my whole life. This is a great thing to do that this community needs. And I hope whoever voted thumbs down on this video will seek out the help he or she really needs to deal with their demons of negativity. That's my story, an I'm sticking to it....

If I could 'like' this video 100 times, I would! Thank you for bringing up such a difficult subject for so many people. This is extremely helpful information - I hope many, many nomads see this video. Many years ago, before I realized how depression worked, I couldn't figure out why I had so many good things going for me in my life, and yet was still so sad much of the time. Even if someone isn't depressed, it's valuable to understand some of how depression, etc. works. You just never know how you may be able to make a positive difference in someone's life one day by providing some healthy support.

I'm sorry for your loss Bob..i can't imagine losing a child, but I have had to take mine to the hospital for mental health reasons and it crosses my mind and scares the hell out of me..Anxiety n depression are what keep me in a frozen state for the most part..i know that getting away and changing my environment would prob do a world of good, but the fear has me locked..my ptsd doesn't help. Neither does the fact that my income has been cut to 1/3 on disability, I've spent a small fortune, then my emergency fund trying to get my van road ready n safe only to in the end, have a dead van and no money left..stuck couchsurfing in hell in a housefull of young males, me being a 59 y.o. woman with health issues..not a comfortable situation which makes my depression unbearable most days and makes ME unbearable to them I'm sure..I have tried 6 diff antidepressants and they all made me more suicidal..i refuse to take them now but I do think for some, they can be a godsend...blessings to you and all who struggle with these silent diseases..✌❤😊

Every time I start dreaming of this life change, negative thoughts come in on me like a tidal wave! Lately my only solace has been found watching your videos. I feel so alone except when I tune into your channel. My biggest problem is that I think too much (I think). I am living on a fixed income and my nomad dream got a little shattered when my landlord recently increased my rent by quite a bit! I remember reading a paper by a doctor who was successfully treating schizophrenia, bipolar, ADD, ADHD and chronic depression with Vitamin B3 (nicotinamide- a natural niacin). He and his team discovered that some people don't process B vitamins efficiently. Added to that is that our modern diets of processed foods (which are known to be low in B vitamins due to the processing), smoking and alcohol tend to destroy those B vitamins that we do get. Changing to a diet with less processed (canned, twice cooked, boxed) foods is a great step. Avoid toasting and/or microwaving food (AKA twice or muti-times cooked foods). Also take a super B complex vitamin. Reduce stress. Get out in the sun. I was labeled with dysthymia, as well as TBI and PTSD from a collisiion with a drunk driver (.43 ABL) that wrecked the school bus I was driving, as well as my life. Hubby was deficient in B vitamins & was constantly exposed to awful chemicals, so he looked a decade older and had bipolar and other issues. We now take a super B complex, and a few herbs (hawthorn for BP and heart health; motherwort for my menopause anxiety, palpitations, & insomnia; and a few others). The folate in the B complex,as well as diet changes, is bringing color back to hubby's hair & I still have my natural color with just a bit of "sparkle" - and we're over 60. Did you know: That there is a soil bacteria that counters depression when you touch it with bare skin? You can sit with bare feet on the earth if you're very tenderfooted, walking & gardening are better. That inhaling the scent of sage, lavender, or fresh flowers helps with stress and depression? That sitting in the sunshine is a powerful (& free) remedy for a lot of health issues, including but not limited to building your immunities, depression, stress, vision, menopause & andropause,, osteoporosis and other health issues. So break out those loungers and take a bit of a sun nap. Happy & safe travels.

I do believe what we I take food wise does make a big difference, not a total cure, for these issues. I’ve noticed it. No sugar, low carbs, clean foods. I read the ingredient labels and if I don’t know what something is on it I look it up. So many natural flavorings and cheap vegetable over processed oils etc. in today’s store delve foods. I really avoid inflammatory foods. It sure has helped me both physically and mentally.

Itsa. The electrical mechanism behind Earth contact is being revealed. "Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever" by Clinton Ober is a good introduction. Measuring body voltage is easy to do with a common meter. Seeing body voltage go from 4 volts to 0 volts when you step on the ground barefooted makes you a believer. Our cells normally run on 20 millivolts/.020mV. But they are getting charged up by the high electrical magnetic fields of modern life, with disastrous consequences. Grounding ameliorates this.
