Thank you for this video Esther! I have been able to eliminate depression and anxiety medication by introducing yoga. My body feels so much more alive and active, it has really changed my life.

Esther - I am a new Yoga Instructor and have only been practicing for 5 years. I feel blessed to bring Yoga to my small community in Central KS, but have missed participating. I have enjoyed your classes and they have brought me great comfort and left me feeling awesome. Namaste :)

Thank you for this video, Esther. Yoga is always my fail-safe way of reacting to my depression when it gets triggered. And it really helps me feel the joy in my life! I'm so glad you posted that book as well! It's so helpful for any habit or pattern you want to change, or enjoying life more fully in general. Jon Kabat-Zinn is amazing, he has some great talks that are posted on youtube.

As always, Esther, thank you. I live in a place where it rains a lot and I am affected by dark cloudy days, and I feel there is lots of blocked energy. This practice is excellent. I am glad I found this and will look forward to doing this on a regular basis.

This is a very good sequence just to stretch out the back muscles after sitting writing by my desk all day, letting go of my work and just coming into the now and here. Thank you for sharing. I think I will let this be my afternoon/evening routine from now on. For when I am low on energy, and just need something to relax a bit and centre myself. :)

I always feel like I cannot do much, physically. I think I can do this video, especially now, when my Crohn's Disease is so bad. I cannot do EVERYTHING, but I am going to begin trying to do as much as I am able. Thanks!

You're fantastic as usual Esther. One major problem that people with depression have though is the feeling of not being able to get up so one improvement I can think of is maybe starting from lying or sitting and work up to standing? Just my experience. Thanks for another great video :)

Actually, there is really good evidence that exercise (I have no idea if there is evidence that yoga is especially effective) significantly reduces depression. That does not mean it is enough... people with debilitating depression usually need more. A good psychiatrist or therapist will tell you that in addition to medication and therapy, changes in lifestyle are important. However getting up and exercising if you're depressed can be really hard, so thank goodness other stuff is out there.

My balance isn't good enough to do the pose at for instance 2:41 and my hips (??) are too inflexible to move my leg forward from downward dog pose, so this is too difficult. It would be helpful with suggestions for modifcations, thank you :-)

Ciao Valentina- non c'e nessun ordine prestabilito per fare pranayama, meditazione e asana. Infatti la maggior parte di quelli in Occidente che praticano yoga fanno solo asana. Non devi neanche necessariamente farli insieme; io di solito faccio meditazione separatamente dagli asana.

there is a very good book, yoga for emotional health by #boforbes that fits nicely with this video. thank you for this. i believe yoga can be a great compliment to emotional healing.

You have no idea what you're talking about. There are forms of depression that persist despite of years of therapy and medication, and practicing yoga and mindfulness and meditation every day is a wonderful way of improving life quality for those who cannot be cured otherwise.

P.S. I think the evidence may actually indicate exercise is more consistently effective than medication... a lot of people don't respond to medication, and in studies the real antidepressants aren't always much more effective than placebos. I really need to practice what I preach... I don't get enough sleep, I eat crap, and I rarely exercise, so yeah, I know what I should do, but doesn't mean I do it. I take the meds and tx and not much else.

and also...instead of delivering all kinds of harmful medicines, they should first start with breathing/yoga exercises like these, much more effective without the side effects! I am not saying that somebody might in some cases need the antidepressants, I am not a doctor, but...I bet in many cases this would be more than enough, and I am talking by personal experience...
