If I do not take my Acetyl L Carnitine my depression comes back within a day. I tried Fluoxetine and other SSRI and they did LESS than nothing. Then one day about a year ago I took Acetyl L Carnitine and I actually laughed out loud to my self about some random thing, (a true laugh) something I had not done since I was a young teen. It works miracles for me, I don't know why it works or how. I only know that it works for me.
That's funny, I had the exact same response. I took it on whim as a preworkout and didn't expect anything. Strangely enough, after about 15 minutes, I was thinking about something and just had a good laugh. Also something I haven't experienced in a long time. I only took about 300 mg and it was my first dose ever so idk if it was just a placebo effect or not. I guess I'll know in a couple of weeks. I mean, it definitely had some type of effect or I would not be researching videos and posting randomly in chat about it.
@@dontump2286 yeah I been taking 1500 mg of acetyl l-carnitine in the morning every day. I can for sure tell a difference in my mood if I forget to take it. If it's working for real or a placebo I'm happy either way.
@@profbfc Good Question. Well first of all, I still have the "nearly" full bottle sitting here in my office. I don't think I took it more than a couple of days. Not so much because it wasn't good or was bad, but more so because I just got busy with other things and havent thought about it. I will say though, on days where I'm feeling sluggish or a little dumpy, I always glance over at the bottle and say to myself "should i take one." I guess it's hard to explain but there are no updates worth noting because I just never really took it long term.
I have no idea why it works either. I picked it up on a whim. Nothing happened really when I first took it, so I felt disappointed and put it into the stack of "failed" supplements. Then the next day I felt absolutely incredible. It was like I was young again. It seems to have a slightly delayed response.
Fantastic video … would love to have videos on the most popular nootropics out there, especially: Citicholine (CDP-Choline), L-theanine, mucuna pruriens and others
interested for sure.so, i see MANY different "brands" of this product, with a very wide range of retail prices!! how do we choose, or what do we specifically look for when deciding to make a purchase? thanks, and i too very appreciate your intro!!!
Dear Dr. Messamore, Thank you so much for speaking the truth. I was beginning to think that a member of The Establishment wasn't allowed to do that. God Bless You.
Hi. May I ask if the studies showed how long before the acetyl l carnitine would start to work for depression? A few weeks, or immediately? I see one study that indicated it works in a few days instead of the usual few weeks it takes for a normal antidepressant to work. Thanks.
I believe he made a mistake at 7:29 with the pic of the mitochondria. He shows beta oxidation yielding "acyl-coa" but it should say "acetyl-coa" I believe acyl term is used anytime there is not an acetyl group attached to the coa.
By the way it can cause hypothyroid symptoms in some ppl. It happened to me for several days after trying a high dose. It might be fine with the lowest dosage. Just be aware of this and listen to your body.
Fantastic information here! I have bipolar 2 and struggle with depressive/ manic episodes. The medications always did more harm than good and after coming off of them i struggled with depressive episode that lasted over a year. I started taking acetyl-l-carnitine because i found that any vitamin/mineral that improved mitochondrial function would make me feel much better. I not only run a vitamin/nutrition store but also run experiments like these on myself in hopes to find a treatment that works for me. I have been taking the ALC for a several weeks and could instantly see improvements in my depression. I have been putting together information on diet, exercise, and supplements on myself for several years. And if you ever decide you would like to out together a study, i would love to help! There are solutions outside of pharmaceuticals, that i can say having tried both, are much more effective.
GOD LOVES YOU BUDDY AND MAY YOUR DEPRESSION ENDS AND YOU BECOME MOST HAPPYEST AND JOYFULL AND CALM FOR REST OF YOUR LIFE, BE BLESSED YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN A NAME OF JESUS CHRIST !!!❤❤💖💖
I tried a high dose and it gave me hypothyroid symptoms for several days. I do have hypothyroidism though, treated with T3 and T4 hormone. It rendered my medication ineffective. Maybe you could just try a low dose and see how it goes. If it does cause a problem it isn't permanent so it's not a huge deal.
I have tried a few compounds including GABA. I do not think I want to do this again without a naturopath monitoring me. I felt shaky and a bit unstable. I am starting to feel using there poorly studied supplements interfere with or create more side effects with my meds
This was a very interesting, well done video - great job! I take Buspirone, which is a serotonin antagonist, so I'm wondering if it would be safe to try this in combination with it. I know with some of the natural supplements, you have to be careful, as the combination can cause serotonin syndrome. Has anyone tried this in combination with prescription antidepressants?
Thanks for the comment. I'm not aware of any published reports that address acetyl-l-carnitine / buspirone interaction. So, in terms of published information from medical literature, there's unfortunately no guidance on this.
My Strattera failed because of stomach issues and my dr recommended acetyl l carnetine telling me "I can get it vitamin or gym shops" So thanks for this whole explanation bc I was VERY LOST on what was it supposed to do to me.
Strattera had me dribbling semen I know that’s tmi but I was like wtf. Disappointing because it did have some benefits at a low dose. A higher dose like 60 made me nauseous
@@perseverance9888 2000mg twice a day. I'm only taking it once a day the moment. In the a.m. I'm concerned about insomnia ATM. I already struggle with it, so I'm being careful.
I’m not diagnosed with bipolar or any other disorder but I decided to start taking this along with alpha gpc to help me focus more in school. Now when I don’t take them in the morning shortly after I feel so empty headed and can barely think and process new information. I don’t know what to do other than to keep taking it to function properly.
