I think there needs to be a real discussion all over Ireland about salary disclosure in both public and private at least range based on job responsibilities and description and why despite efforts to make things fairer and more visible (think about the salary gap reports which were buried in companies websites and most were never even discussed or encouraged to be discussed) it is deemed a real taboo here. At least ranges should be clearly defined, this is so very common around Europe and other continents but here in Ireland it is hush hush and this can create huge gaps of inequality and scandals like we see here arising. If someone does a good job no matter what a position, of course they should be rewarded fairly. But I also think, thinking back to the essential workers hospital cleaners, nurses, factory workers, care home assistance, teachers, child care assistants, essential store staff and those who had to keep buildings open for emergencies, those people were and are often not paid adequately and still rose up to the huge responsibility and carried it for all of us. So if you have an elevated job in the top level and a higher salary it means higher responsibility that you carry on your shoulders. How can it be that people with a 200-300K salary are not held accountable to the same standard as our essential workers? And they have not even engaged with their colleagues, who are on basic salaries yet to prep for a government meeting instead?!

Exactly. Well said. And don't forget the heroes who build and maintain our roads and traffic systems and maintain our sewersand of course the fire fighters. I think those guys are never thought of in society but work in all weather's etc

The “vast majority of the RTÉ staff” may not “enjoy vast salaries” but they are not victims, they are complicit in the hubris.

In the same way if you worked in a shop and sold Nike shoes you're complicit in slavery. Do you think a lighting technician or an IT guy are making executive financial decisions? What are you talking about? The vast majority of RTE staff are underpaid general office workers or production technicians like any production company or studio in Ireland. How can you blame a graphics animator on 25k a year or any of the actual "vast majority" of RTE staff for it's managers garbage decisions who've been funneling their salaries to the top few
