I attended the same rally in 2021. I was walking along when one of the counter demonstrators decided to try to provoke some people rallying peacably. I asked him politely to desist and he decided to try to physically confront me. He tried to throw a punch at me, which I evaded but I returned his punch catching him in the face. A Garda immediately stepped in and asked me about what happened. I told him that I was attacked first and that I had defended myself. The Garda noticeably did not question the man who instigated the confrontation. I asked the Garda why had he not spoken to the attacker. The Garda said that he only saw me throwing a punch. I told the Garda that I threw a punch to defend myself and I had not thrown the first punch. I asked the Garda again, why had he not spoken to the attacker. In reply the Garda said "just move on now". I asked the Garda again why had he not spoken to the attacker. I explained that if I had thrown the first punch, then I am guilty of (attempted) assault surely. I reckon the Garda saw who throw the first punch. And I reckon he saw that my punch had connected😊 The point here is that that Garda should have questioned my attacker but didn't.

Nothing wrong with the actions of this Garda. He is legally entitled and required to separate in order to prevent a breach of the public order act. And he was courteous in doing so.

I'm sure that Garda was trying to protect Neil as he was very near that moving traffic n could have got hit also who knows pushed ,very near accident waiting to happen n he saw that .​@@JohnScully-mq1ie
