Derik gets surgery....again. 

My husband would give anything to have a year with me and his son that he has been away from for 25 years because he passed away from cancer at 43 yrs young when our son was 4 yrs old! Be blessed! Do what you have to! To be able to walk your daughter down the aisle at her wedding one day. Maybe go to therapy to talk about how to handle changing physical activity! Life is hard but this is a walk in the park! God bless! 😊❤

This is for Derek. I would hire a housekeeper for your home until you are 6 months into your recovery. The help for Sarah would be such a relief. You kids make enough to do this. Everyone wins. Glad you are on the mend.❤

Don’t look at the long time frame for complete healing. Take one day at a time. Set goals for the day, the week then month. Stay positive. Many of us are praying for you and for Sarah. God is faithful and he is your healer. Believing with you for total recovery and for strength and sleep for Sarah as she cares for the entire family during this time. Praise Him Derik for the little goals you accomplish each day. You are one step closer to your finish line!

Derek... when you are cleared to do so, physical therapy in the pool is the best for your muscles!! In addition, when you are ready for your shower, get a shower bench with handles on the side, that way he can sit down while he is taking his shower, that is if you have a walk in shower. They are also adjustable on the legs, but make sure the pegs that hold the legs up are all the way through the hole so it doesn't slip... it would cause the chair to shift, and that wouldn't be safe. My husband and I use one that is a shower bench that glides over the tub. I would recommend however to wait on your shower until you are more steady, and feel safe to do so. When my husband had foot surgery, I used a plastic trash bag to cover his foot and used an adhesive bandage to hold it on and to keep his bandage dry, it worked well. You are in my prayers Derek, take it easy and do not rush your recovery!!! You have a great big helper named Jack who will be there for you. You've got this.... take care! 😊❤😊❤😊

Do your best to follow directions and let it heal....a year is but just a tiny piece of the puzzle of your life......Jack is at the age where all things are new and exciting....dedicate this year to museums, science centers, movies, we have a lot of skywalks in our city.....go skywalking. Derik - I feel your pain. I've had several arthroscopes, knee reconstructions with bone graphs and screws and a piece of one of the knee caps broke off and my meniscus is torn on both the inside and the outside. I have been waiting 34 years for new knees. Helpful hints - Take your time doing everything and try to stand straight - less chance of falling. Teach the kids to be very gentle around/with you. Body wash wipes from pharmacy, dry shampoo, etc... Have a basket of essentials by your bed and couch. ( Water bottles, snacks, book, music, air pods notebook and pen, games, etc...) Hi you two……..have had both knees replaced a year apart…….follow exactly the DR’S ORDERS AND THE PT’s…..I did my PT’s exercises at least 3 times a day, some times 4. I amazed my PT’s and DR. Over 50 years for both of them. The ice machine helps so much….my husband was so good to keep it refilled…even bought ice to refill more often. Propped up according to their directions. The pain will go away…go off the high octane pain meds and use Ibuprofen then Tylenol…don’t take more than you’re suppose and exercise, exercise, exercise!!!! You will be so happy you had this done….am a retired RN and a not lying, my man…..live to you both, Jack and Sunny!!!🎉❤😎👌🏻

On Jan 22 I fell tripped at work and broke my hip. So sorry for your pain Derek. I hope they have done the repair correctly this time. This is much more of an invasive surgery, which means a bigger incision and they’re cutting through muscles, which causes more pain. My son-in-law is a fireman and was injured on the job. He was hit by a rogue fire hose in the side of the knee and had to have surgery. After 15 months, he finally just went back to work. Take care of yourself and don’t push it. This one year of your life, or maybe even a little more, will be nothing compared to the many decades you have left with your family. I broke my back at the age of 19 and have had many spinal surgeries so I understand that too well. Follow your doctors orders, they’ve seen what can go wrong and what creates the best outcome. Oh my Derek...you dear SOUL....let me make you feel BETTER....it's always good to realize others have MORE misfortune.......comparably speaking....I've have 29 surgeries....and I feel friggin fantastic...GOD IS GOOD....!!!!!!

You MUST take it easy Derik . Years ago I had total (left knee) replacement and had to wear a knee immobilelizer because my knee ( and leg) had to stay straight . It took some getting used to but I did what my orthopedist told me to do. Now I have no cartilage left in my right knee so starting physical therapy in April

I'm a 70-year-old woman who lives in Minnesota. On December 10 I fell on a little patch of ice and broke my right shoulder and my right knee and tore my meniscus in my right knee. On December 11 I had surgery to correct both both were open surgeries with seven pins and a plate in each extremity. I was nonweightbearing on my arm meaning that I couldn't lift myself up with my hand. I couldn't push with my hand until February 1. I am still nonweightbearing on my right leg until March 7 will be 13 weeks nonweightbearing. Just tell Derek hang in there. The open surgery didn't really hurt that much. I only used the painkillers for one week and now I just use Tylenol and I've learned how to transfer from my bed to the wheelchair without using my right leg at all. You've got this Derik. I had the brace on for 8 weeks.

I'm praying for a 100% recovery for you, Derrick. I feel for you. I've been there, and it is not pleasant at all. I had problems trying to get comfortable because of the pain, and trying to sleep at night was awful post-op for 2 months, then it took me close to 8 months before I felt myself again. I pray that you will heal much quicker.

The red transformation is really nice. Everything facially is so vivid so when you wear green it’ll be so flattering.

I’ve had 5 back surgeries finally the drs and the state said no more and now I wish I’d never had one!! You’re lucky you have a beautiful loving family to help you heal. Take your time the snow and the oceans will be there when you are fully recovered. Please take it easy I know you don’t want the pain pills but don’t let the pain get to bad before you take them, it just takes longer for them to work. Follow the drs orders and heal well. I just had my second knee replacement in the same knee in just over a year. One was a revision … a bigger implant. I am 55. You don’t want this. Trust me.

Had my right knee replaced twice in 18 months. Ice is your friend. I had a machine that iced it for me. It’s extremely painful to have your knee operated on. Prayers for healing. Follow drs orders you want to heal.

You guys have the cash. Hire an in home nurse and a cleaning person. I don't know how old this video is, but they do have people that will come into your house to help you with cares.

Derek, Please, please, please don't rush your recovery time take it easy for a long time. If you rush the recovery you'll be back in the hospital, its definitely not worth it. I'm so happy that you are home and Sarah is doing well and the kiddos are doing well. Jack was so sweet and supportive when you got home, be got your smoothie and got his and was hanging out with you in bed. He loves his daddy so much ❤❤❤❤. Same kind of thing for me. Had root repair 12/22, knee replacement later this month. We do what we have to, in order to get moving again. Do your rehab, take care until it's healed. Blessings all around, prayers for healing for you.

I’ve a damaged spine and I understand how this feels. I’ve also got young children. I’m never going to be better and wake up crying in pain though the night. BUT my kids are just fine. We do things together and that’s all they care about. They don’t care if it’s cooking me plastic food and bringing it to me in bed or doing something out of the house. What matters is they get my love and attention ❤❤❤

I hope the pain heals soon. I know it's going to be rough keeping it straight. I had to do that after my knee replacement get infected. They took my knee out completely and put in a cement spacer. So I couldn't bend it for almost 4 months. Honestly that was the best 4 months I had because besides the couple weeks of surgery pain.I had no pain in that knee area that I had, had for so many years. I almost wish I could go back to that for the rest of my life because I was feeling no pain. I hope you are able to stick to the sugery aftercare and then it will be heeled. Feel better soon, Derik.

I’m sorry you have to do this again. The day after surgery is always the most painful cuz all the anesthesia has worn off. I know it sucks to hear all the things you can’t do for the next year but you need to protect your meniscus for as long as you can. Love your hair, Sarah!! Derik, I've had several knee surgeries also, But mine were in the 60's when they would tear the knee apart to try and fix it. No arthroscopics, then, and a week in the hospital each time. You're very lucky to be having this done with today's medical techniques. Heal quickly!

Derek please take this surgery more seriously than last time. Our bodies really need to heal. And your brother should not be lifting you like before. Get a roll in shower chair for shower and a large plastic bag for leg. Don’t try to shower too soon. The less you move around the better you heal. There are therapist that come to home in the beginning. Sarah needs a Nanny to help with kids and learn to organize the house daily. There are beauty salons where you live! ( will need 1 to maintain her hair) stay positive it all works out Slow and easy😞🫶by the way Sarah you look fabulous!!

This is a great opportunity to become a better husband and father. Slowing down and being present to your spouse instead of flying off to surf and water ski every few months should be a maturing experience for Derick and a great relief for Sarah.

I love your hair! I am not trying to be negative but Derick needs to put his family first, listen to the doctors and realize his family is far more important than his need for fun. What is his occupation? In the down time he can take some classes. If he goes back to his snowboarding,surfing,etc he can re injure his knee to a point they may not be able to repair it. Men need to put away boy toys. I pray that this is a turning point for you in that you can find joy in educating yourself in something you enjoy but will benefit your family. I had to give up horses after four meniscus surgeries and finally a knee replacement so I truly do understand.

Derik, I feel your pain. Only mine is from a total knee replacement. I’m 10 weeks post op and having a set back that started 3 weeks ago. Pain beyond measure on the medial side of my kneecap. So just like you, every twist or bump is SO painful. Prayers this surgery works for you so you don’t have to go through a total knee replacement surgery. It truly sucks.

if he can bend from the waist have him stand over the kitchen sink to wash his hair, dry shampoo is a great choice too.. I had a cervical posterior laminectomy with fusion in August, then a week later was rushed back into surgery because I developed a CSF leak. I unnerved my husband screaming when he tried to help me shower. I also recommend a shower chair.. with a shower head that you can hold... it works wonders.. So 4 plates 12 screws and 2 rods later.. 5 months out of surgery I am still healing. Derik be patient with yourself, show yourself some grace.. I hope and pray your recovery goes well.. Take your time and don't rush it!

Always remember "Through him all things are possible!" Put the healing process in God's hands, let him carry you. Have faith that he will never put more than what you can handle on you. You are strong, anyone who has fallen off a cliff and landed on their face, and lived to tell the story, can handle the knee recovery. You are a survivor Derik, you can do anything you set your mind to. Just show God that you have faith in him, and he will return the faith in you. BE STRONG and resilient and help when you can, Sara is going to be amazing, and Jack and Sunny, will provide you with all the love and support you need.

I know the pain after a surgery like that, I’ve had three back surgeries with long recoveries. The pain can be unbearable at times but before you know it you’ll feel less and less of it. Days turn into weeks, then months very fast. Just stay focused on getting stronger and healing. You guys will do okay and the kids will have more time with their daddy. 3 hip surgeries and 1 broken knee cap within 10 months a year ago. The pain is so intense and the lack of mobility is frustrating and depressing! Not to mention there’s loss of muscle everywhere, except your arms. Take the time to heal Derek! It seems forever but it’s setting the foundation for your health for, hopefully, decades into your future. That’s so important! Sara, you’re a trooper! It’s extra difficult to take a mental health break, but get a sitter and do it when you need! 🥰

Jack is so adorable with his new hair cut and hes so sweet, encouraging and gentle with his daddy. His future wife will thank you for raising such a good, caring, compassionate man! Derek, knee surgery sucks and is painful. I found that focusing on something other than the pain, helped me cope with less medication. It's rough, but it will be over soon. I know your grieving your independence, but at least its not forever. I had a stroke in 2020 that cost me my career, my marriage, my independence (cant walk or drive) and my identity. It was a REAL struggle! I learned that being grateful for everything i can do, for every act of service and kindness to me, for everything God has given us, etc. helps keepl the depression, hopelessness, and self-pity at bay. Derik, PLEASE take this advice: I have had 11 surgeries on my right knee. I am having my THIRD knee replacement next month. Do EXACTLY what the Dr tells you to do PLEASE. Take the time to allow it to heal. If you don't, you will regret it, this will affect you for the rest of your life. This is only a short time in your life, but if you do not stay off of it, do all the rehab and don't push your limits too soon. I wish you all the best, prayers for a healthy healing.

From a straight womans perspective Sarah was a 10 as blond, but as a redhead shes got some like legendary beauty going on. Definitely an upgrade, and i hope she keeps it red and uses it to leverage a multi bazillion dollar modelling career that sets her family up for generations while Derik sits home with the kids this year.
