Dermatologists Dr. Michelle Henry and Dr. Dhaval Bhanusali debunk eight myths about body odor. They explain that sweat doesn't actually stink, the relationship between smell and hygiene, and how food can affect your BO. They also talk about how not everybody sweats - plus how to know if you're one of those people.
Henry is a dermatologist and founder at Skin & Aesthetic Surgery in New York City. Learn more about her work here: www.skinaestheticsurgery.com/

3:15 using anti bacterial soap was such a great tip! For the past few weeks I had been noticing a slightly B.O. in my armpits, which I didn't use to notice before. After watching this, I bought an anti-bacterial soap, used it one or two days, and now I no longer smell it. Many thanks!

ABCC11 gene is related to earwax as well. Earwax type is determined by a variation in the ABCC11 gene which has alleles - T and C (or A and G). People with the T variant have dry earwax while people with the C variant have wet earwax. This gene also encodes the proteins that transports sweat out of pores in our armpits, and attracts the bacteria that cause axillary odor. People with dry earwax don't produce the protein, so they don't make the apocrine underarm sweat. Funny enough, I have wet earwax associated with odor, or mix of wet and sometimes dry, but I have no odor (I do not use deodorant and do not smell under my arms) However, I have both alleles. I inherited CT. So I inherited the T variant as far as sweating without odor, and the C variant of wet earwax. My father did not have underarm smell.
@jubileenharochocrebadeo7373

As a Filipino who as lived in North America and has returned to the Philippines, I can tell you that smells can make you feel you're at home. Unlike in the Philippines where most houses are open-air, homes in North America are mostly closed and anything that you cook will stick to the house. I've visited my other Asian friend's houses and their homes smell like the food that they ate, in a good way. I find that the houses of other Pinoys tend to smell like cooked onions and garlic, which to me, smells like home. On body odor, I find that hygiene plays a big role in all of this. Those that rarely changed their clothes, bathed poorly and did not use deodorant smelled bad compared to those that had better habits. As someone who lives in a tropical country, I find it horrific not to bathe daily, and I've bathed in the dead of winter and I'd rather feel cold than to have that icky feeling.

Her explanation actually doesn't debunk that myth. First she says that correlation doesnt necessarily means causation. Which is true. Then she says that science havnt proved that aluminum causes cancer. But she still admits that they often see aluminum deposits in women with breast cancer. So while science havnt proved it to cause cancer, it on the other hand havnt disproved it. So a good thumb rule is, to use the cautionary principle, when ever there is a doubt about something causing cancer or not. So for me i would still rather avoid anti-perspirants, and only use anti-bacterial deodorants. And by the way, about those anti-bacterial deodorants, which have aluminum in them, the difference from anti-perspirants is, that that aluminum-molecules that are inside the anti-bacterial deodorants are to large to penetrate the skin, so they just sit as a layer on top of the skin, whereas the aluminum-molecules of the anti-perspirants are so small that they penetrate the skin and clog the pores, which is why they are so effective.

I agree with everything in this video except ONE thing..... the absence of specified research data may not link causation, but it doesn't DISPROVE it either. Since there is already scientific research data out there that does prove excessive metals in the bloodstream are connected to certain illnesses, it's better to be safe than sorry. however, the whole detox thing was INCREDIBLY important to bring attention to. I have a business in health and wellness, and only very few people including myself point out that when you do "cleanses", your only helping your liver and kidneys do the actual detoxing. Meaning, your strengthening your organs and immune system to do the detoxing, you're not doing the actual detoxing yourself. eating a healthy balanced diet, even if you go so far as to be plant based, does not CURE anything. the purpose of consuming more plants is to help the organs, immune system and blood do their most optimum job that they were created for. we have to help our bodies help ourselves, but we also need to be REALISTIC ! overall I enjoyed this video and will continue to enjoy videos like these !

@@boxlad7583 In science you can't just assume there is something or there is not. There should be some tests around it. You mentioned telekinesis, quite exaggerating but I'll do the same. The white powder they used in middle ages to whiten their faces also was poisonous but didn't know since the beginning. It would appear that regular soap naturally kills bacteria. Just look up any video on what soap does to single-celled organisms. So, buying antibacterial soap shouldn't be better than regular soap. In fact, just doing a quick search, I've found some things that suggest that the chemicals used in antibacterial soap could be actually harmful in some respects, but I digress.
@Jhud69

Yeah it’s true. It can kill bacteria our skin actually needs so it’s not great. Normal soap is sufficient
@bskull3232

Antibacterial soaps leave a small amount of chemicals that keep killing bacteria, while ordinary soaps only kill bacteria when you shower. The air is dirty, it has literally hundreds to thousands (if not more) microbes per cubic centimeter. If some fell on your body, they will thrive without that antibacterial chemical left over from your antibacterial soap.

The best way is to use both a soap and a body wash. First use soap in the skin folds(pits, booty, genitals) Rinse. and than take a CLEAN washcloth and apply body wash and scrub your entire body. Soap is very basic so it can disrupt temporarily the skin mantle which is around 5pH. Body wash has adjusted ph usually from 5.5 so it doesn't disrupts the skin mantle at least not as much. I've recommend this to many people 90% are extremely satisfied including myself. The rest of them complained that it dries out their skin way too much.

As with everything, I would say it depends. The microorganisms living in our skin are part of our body and participate in the equilibrium of our skin. I think antibacterial soap makes sense for your feet or your armpits if you are having problems with strong bad odour, but using it overall in your body could affect your skin protection and maybe get some rashes or fungus. Hope that helps!

Of course, my neurologist was probably using a lot more to calm down a large calf muscle than would a dermatologist on a face or underarm. I was SO happy when I finally found the physiological stretching exercise to stop the spasms without any more shots. I needed to crouch down so that my hips and my body weight were below my knees. Doing squats daily counteracted the spasms and I could finally walk without pain. Such a relief!!

There is something called "anxiety sweat" or "stress sweat" and it has its own scent that is very distinct from normal sweat. Even humans can tell the difference between the two, dogs 100x more of course. It's a harsh and almost bitter smell, not like the sweet-ish normal sweat. Simple tip to get rid of smelly armpits: Mix lemon juice and baking soda until it forms a semi-solid paste. Before you shower in the morning, rub it under your armpits and leave it there for about 5 minutes. Jump in the shower and rinse the mixture under warm water. Don't use soap under your arms on that day (use it the next day as you alternate). The reason this works is the acidity of the lemon juice kills the bacteria under your arms, and leaves the environment inhospitable for more to invade. It doesn't last all day, but good in a pinch. Best part? If you're black and you have dark underarms, using the baking soda will help lighten the darkness too!
