This gave me goosebumps. The emotion in his voice is powerful. As a Taylor fan I think this stripped back version shows off her song writing and Music really well. Amazing cover Dermot!
I’m not a Taylor swift fan. However sometimes when I listen to covers I agree, her songwriting can be very impressive and seems to show better on other artists just as someone who doesn’t particularly like her voice or sound. Would be interesting to hear her intentionally write for other artists when/if she decides to stop doing her own music
@@EmilieSagae co-writer in Taylor song is not the same as it is on other artists’ as Taylor writes her own lyrics and most of the melody. She needs help imostly in producing (confirmed by her collaborators e.g. Jack Antonoff, Ryan Tedder, Imogen Heap)
Taylor's really good at taking sad songs and making them upbeat to give the lyrics a lighter feeling, but this, yeah....This rendition is soul crushingly beautiful.
Dermot Kennedy is one of those wonderful artists who sound as beautiful live as they do on recorded music. I love everything of his that I have ever heard.
First time I heard Dermot was when he sang another Taylor Swift song on this same channel. His voice and artistry elevate the songs he covers to new heights.
I play this almost every day, I am addicted to it. I Love his voice. It feels like an old friend and comforts me when I am lonely. I appreciate his music with every fiber of my being.
i didn’t relate to the lyrics so much listening to Taylor’s version, but now.. i’ve discovered how deep and dark they are. Taylor and Dermote are truly talented 🥲💔 (btw i didn’t know this singer before so i guess i’ll go and search for him)
Never appreciated and enjoyed an artist's art as much as i love and appreciate what dermot does, since i discovered dermot 3 years ago I've been listening to his music everyday morning and night, i ease my panic attacks and anxiety with his songs, most remomable one when i had an accident in the highway and still had to drive back to my hometown and had a bad panic attack and played without fear album all the way back and find ease and peace through it, I can't wait to listen to sonder over and over again and not get sick of it just like his old songs and album, never got sick of them! He is so precious and what makes him even more special, how genuiely humble he is about how unique he is 🥰 much love from marrakech!
I think she intentionally chooses beats that distract from how deep her lyrics are... so when others sing it you feel more, the feelings she's trying to downplay... I may be overthinking it, but truly hope she is okay
@@moniquekwachou342 Good point. My guess would be that is because although she wants to be taken seriously as a singer/songwriter, she does also want to make money (and that is fair) so she tries to also make them as catchy as possible and does commercialized them. However, I think finally took a gamble with Folklore and Evermore and got away from that to a large degree. At least temporarily, because Midnights seems to have gone back to her old "ways". though I love some of her lyrics on Midnights too!
amazing!!!! i can't help but feel if most of Taylor's music wasn't released by HER, people would call her songs genius. Unfortunately some are so dead set on hating her or calling her untalented despite her remarkable ability to song write. loved this rendition.
It’s also because the pop vibe can make it easy for some people to miss the beauty in the lyrics. Stripping it back like this you can see the genius of the lyrics clearly
This still shocks me so much!! I recommend his music to everyone and a lot of people say who?! Then they hear him and they end up at his concerts with me!! 💃🏼 Most people hear him once & LOVE his stuff! He’s got a raw genuine talent! His music, lyrics, voice are just 🤯🔥🔥 ✌🏼♥️🎶
@@jonacars26I heard a clip of Outnumbered on a tv show, they didn’t play much of the song at all really… but it’s one of the songs that sings to ye, I was hooooooked!! The guys lyrics are something else 🙏🏻✌🏼🎶
I seen him live in Belfast a couple years back. Pretty sure it was his first performance outside of the Republic or EU. He puts his heart and soul into the performance, and is one of those artists that hold a special place in my heart ❤️
Verse 1] I have this thing where I get older, but just never wiser Midnights become my afternoons When my depression works the graveyard shift, all of the people I've ghosted stand there in the room [Pre-Chorus] I should not be left to my own devices They come with prices and vices I end up in crisis (Tale as old as time) I wake up screaming from dreaming One day, I'll watch as you're leaving 'Cause you got tired of my scheming (For the last time) Chorus] It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me At teatime, everybody agrees I'll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero [Verse 2] Sometimes, I feel like everybody is a sexy baby And I'm a monster on the hill Too big to hang out, slowly lurching toward your favorite city Pierced through the heart, but never killed [Pre-Chorus] Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism Like some kind of congressman? A tail as old as time) I wake up screaming from dreaming One day, I'll watch as you're leaving And life will lose all its meaning (For the last time) [Chorus] It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me (I'm the problem, it's me) At teatime, everybody agrees I'll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero Bridge] I have this dream my daughter-in-law kills me for the money She thinks I left them in the will The family gathers 'round and reads it and then someone screams out "She's laughing up at us from Hell" [Breakdown] It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me It's me, hi I'm the problem, it's me It's me, hi Everybody agrees, everybody agrees Chorus] It's me, hi (Hi) I'm the problem, it's me (I'm the problem, it's me) At teatime (Teatime), everybody agrees (Everybody agrees) I'll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero
You won't regret it, I'm sure of that. He has such a wonderful catalogue of music. He's literally a poet & so emotionally intelligent. I'll shut up now & stop fangirling over someone almost young enough to be my son, lol. Enjoy!
Honestly he has incredible songs. "Outnumbered" is his top hit that you probably heard on the radio, but he has other amazing songs too. "Better days" is personally my favorite by him. 😊
Just beautiful! Real artists like him always know that Taylor’s one of the best artists and such a real talent, that real talents gravitate towards each other!
A beautiful cover! He's an artist who puts his emotions into every song. His songs always touch me. Thank you for sharing your feelings and personality with your fans 🙏🙏🙏
I’m such a big fan he helped me through so many tough days. I went threw depression when I missed him In australia I pray he comes back he and his voice are beautiful god bless ❤❤
Is it only me who thinks the backing vocals are really good? They sound beautiful. Why nobody talks bout them? 🌹🌹🌹 and Demot, you never fail to amaze me!!

Great song, great cover Dermot's voice is so raw, Paired with some wicked instrumentalists and some real talented backing singers in this it's a musical masterpiece What a beauty!
i absolutely love when a artist digs deep within themself and puts everything into a song and doesn't hold back. i am unaware who this gentleman is but he just gained a new fan great voice and job well done sir. Not sure if she wrote it or not but also cant forget a huge shutout to Taylor Swift on such an amazing song.
