LYRICS:
Load your boat up and let it go,
Been talking too much about where you'll go,
And I told you the future's good,
I should have kissed you right there where you stood,
Where you stood,
On a cold morning,
Bring me down, bring me down,
I hope all that you know,
Will be left behind for me as I go,
And I hope all that you know,
Someday I'll know,
Bring me down, bring me down,
Run away with me and then we'll see who cares here,
Run away with me 'till we're lost in the evening air,
Come now, this summer, I hope that I know you in the end,
Come up, come meet me, I'll see you again someday my friend.
Bring me down, not yet, bring me down, not yet,
He still had stuff to do,
Bring me down, not yet, bring me down, not yet,
They still had stuff to do,
Bring me down, not yet, bring me down, not yet,
Still got so much to lose.
Talk to me, 'bout how there's never no hope,
Talk to me, 'bout how there's never no hope.
Filmed by Andrew Jordan.

How can a man's singing crush your soul and build you up simultaneously? He holds your emotions hostage with his music. His very essence is transcendent.

I don't know how to start this one. That's always a good place to start, with honesty. While all your music holds a special place within me, this song is the most potent. I had a dog. A Great Dane. When I got him as a puppy, he came up at me barking and growling then sat at my feet and looked up at me as if to say, "Oh, it's you. Sorry, I didn't recognize you." The warning of aggression was clear, but I'm skilled at handling animals with aggression problems. I knew if anyone else took him, it was a tragedy waiting to happen. That was all subconscious. All I thought at the time was this one was mine. I'm always drawn to the broken ones. For a long time, he was good. The best dog I've ever had. He learned so quickly and was so eager to please. He didn't like strangers, men, but living rurally and carefully handled when out, the risk was low. He was impeccably trained and followed my every word without hesitation. (After a couple of nasty dog fights between us when he was a teenager. No one was hurt, I won, all was well.) He was perfectly safe around me and my children. I had a move pending that would bring us closer to people. It was extremely stressful to bring him in populated areas. After resisting for six years because of the health benefits for Great Danes by leaving him intact, I gave in to the common and vet-directed advice to neuter him to lower his aggression. He was on the edge. Instead of backing him off, he tipped over the other side. About a week after his surgery, he attacked me in the kitchen, while I was cooking. He was digging in the trash for chicken bones, something he never did. I told him to leave it, one of the commands he knew well. Instead of responding, he braced and started growling. He'd never had a hint of food aggression before. I could easily take food from him. He wasn't letting this one go. I tried a few other commands he knew well, and he ignored every one. I was trapped and couldn't deescalate the situation. I glanced at the knives behind me. He lunged for my throat. I pulled back just enough to miss the bite. His teeth snapped in the air with a snarl, centimeters from my throat. He was about to lunge again; I called out to my daughter to call the dog. She called his name from upstairs. He turned and went toward her, relaxed and wagging his tail, his focus broken. (She was safe behind a gate.) A voice screamed in my head, "You have to put him down." I couldn't make that decision. He was as much my child as my human ones. Animals have always been my closest bond. My control was broken. My choice was now one dead child or two. I fell into a near comatose state for the next six months as I agonized over the inevitable. I should have put him down right away, but How do you kill your own child? You had just released "Without Fear". I had found you a little before that and greatly enjoyed what was available. Something about that entire album... I needed it. All I became capable of was listening to you on endless repeat, feeding my children, and watching my dog like a hawk. Without you... I do mean comatose in the movie sense of the word. Barely even capable of speech. I couldn't cry, think, do anything. With you, I could cry. I could think, a tiny bit. 'Bring Me Down' became the top repeat. I wished he would just bite me to make the decision undeniable. Six months and one tiny straw later, I could finally do the right thing. He'd lunged at my now ex-husband, a game my ex encouraged despite my protests that it was a dangerous game to play with an aggressive dog. His intensity and the hard snap of his teeth at my ex's throat said he wasn't playing. I couldn't call him off as I always did. I had to physically get a hold of him. My control was gone. I put him down the next day. Comatose was just the beginning of grief. Seconds beat six years of unconditional love. Coming on three years after his attack, I'm still not over it. Some music relates because the lyrics fit your situation. Your music relates because of something else altogether. I've never found it anywhere else. Maybe on the back of a horse. I won't ask you to put this on Spotify, though I'd love it there, as I can tell this song holds its own grief for you. It's a beautiful, powerful thing you captured, and I thank you for sharing it. I'm torn on sharing this with you as I loathe an audience, but we, artists especially, speak into the world and hope to hear a voice return other than an echo. I know you hear plenty of other voices, many other comments on the power and importance you hold in many lives, but I wouldn't be a poet if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have survived if it weren't for you. I owe you my life many times over. The least I can do is tell you. Thank You ♥️

Stumbled upon a clip of this song on Instagram. I’ve been a fan for many years and have never heard this song. My husband and I lost a friend to suicide in the fall of 2023. The weekend before his we lost him we were camping, talking around the campfire. He was expressing hopelessness. We were wrapping him in all our love and encouragement that this is temporary. There was a plan in place but it didn’t work. What we wouldn’t give to run away with him today. He did have so much to lose. I see it in his wife’s eyes and we feel it deep in our hearts every day. This song resonates with me so very much. I feel like you’re speaking from both perspectives simultaneously.

To be fair, I think It's only right to simply call him talented. Hear me out. The word 'Talent' is so diluted by mediocre 'artists' these days that when real talent comes along, it's so rare that we are left without words to properly express the recognition of true talent. Dermott is talented, no question. It's just not a common trait at all. :)
