I once saw him leave 3 tracks playing in time, stroll over to the bar, get himself a large whiskey, stroll back towards the booth across the dancefloor, giving out handshakes and fist bumps along the way, stand outside the booth continuing to dish out fist bumps then look over at the decks, reenter the booth and perform his next mix flawlessly. he's still the best. I'm so blessed to live in Chicago and to have been able to see him spin as many times as I have, and many times in venues only holding a couple hundred people. Last I saw Mark Farina spin a 7 hour straight set. Not many can ever get to say that.
Go to movement aka "demf" (Detroit) & chosen few fests. All the techno & house music one can handle. Chosen few is straight old school Chicago house all day on the south side! Movement is all house & techno for audiophiles.
I was lucky enough to see Derrick & Mark play several times in the early 90s in both L.A. & San Fran. Dancing to these luminaries at events where they played along side djs like Doc Martin, Steve Loria, Jeno, Garth and DJ Spun really had an impact on my life.
this set is proof that 1. quality house music is still being produced and 2. derrick carter is still the man!!!!!!!!!! banging set which makes me wish i was 25 years younger and dancing like no-one is watching.

I’m only 24 but trust me when I was in my early teens I’d sneak out my house and go to Pilsen for the underground house parties and maaaaaaaaan did I fall in love with house music and the culture around it! Now I’m old enough and hardly ever hear djs spin this at the bars/clubs...it’s sad cause this is fire!!!

I grew up with him. Thats my guy. We're from the same neighborhood. A true genius . He's been a leader in this game since the early 80s. The best thing he ever did was move to the UK. I kick myself in the ass everyday for not going with him...but I'm proud of him. I will see you when I get there bro. Respect Chicago . Maywood baby!!!

Yeah a lot of the big early American house and DJs did, good career move for DJs, scene is so much bigger, better and more fun in Europe, dance music is in our blood over here, in the US it’s more of a social media, fake show off type thing.
Sat and chatted w/him after one of his AMAZING sets at an after hours party. What an authentic, upbeat, kind soul. Also, I don't think I've ever danced that hard in my life.
Wow just wow! Found this set, listened to half of it, fell in love, and found out that Derrick Carter was performing the next day at Spybar in Chicago, and obviously I was there! Awesome set that made me want to finish the rest of this video at 5am.

I first saw Derrick in 1996 in Cream (Liverpool). The back room, which was small dark room with a cracking system. Back then Technics 1210 were the weapon of choice.... lol. The older generation DJ’s learnt their craft on vinyl!

Derrick was very instrumental in the Chicago house scene in the early days of the second wave. I used to go to Gramaphone on Thursdays to buy records every week while he worked there. His knowledge of the scene was second to none.
You got to have a man on deck to keep an eye out ..He sets the bar for the vibe ,lets say someone have a good time zoned out and bumps his equipment...😳.When Mr 1 man army is not present..folks keep pressing closer.. they're not trying to be malicious there there partying but when you have security standing right there the party will be flawless
Absolutely brilliant Just booked to see Mr Carter and Ms Dijon in May in XOYO London. I'm sheeting myself with anticipation. Saw Honey in tiny venue in Brighton few weeks ago and Ibiza, was truly amazed by her talent and her happiness. Have yearned to see DC for a good while. I will be honoured in the presence of a legend xxx

Accident, he was messing with the track selection knobs on the CDJ to his right which was the one currently playing and I guess he stopped the current playing track by accident. Lucky for him he still had the previous song playing on loop in the other CDJ and you can see he immediately pushes that fader on the mixer all the way up to save it.
I know Derrick well. I have been knowing him since 1987-88 when he worked at Imports Ect record shop on Plymouth St. In Chicago way before he became a super producer and world class dj. He's a cool cat and very approachable.
Well , I get your point, but u do realize engineers create algorithms that dectect tracks in the most general sense based on data. Not people who listens to a lot of music and labels tracks.

Thank God Boiler Room employed more camera angles, realizing that most of the world is not interested in watching the 'privileged' head-nodding fools in the dj booth. Side or overhead angle of the DJ & his hands, & more dancing crowd shots is what's most important. Someone at Ballantine's probably deserves credit
