I was at a UFC event a couple years back and when Derrick Lewis walked out, I was standing by the rail right where he walked past. As he passed by I yelled out Good Luck Derrick. It was very noisy but he heard what i said, he literally backed up a good metre and gave me a fist bump. It was extremely cool and i'll never forget it. BB is the man!
Really? "No one wanted to help me while I was in probation for assault while getting a full scholarship at a college for playing sports." He could've gotten a part time job, attended his probation conditions. It's not anyone else's fault but his own. Ffs, making excuses for his failures and actions.
@@olliefoxx7165 There's always at least one fool out there looking to argue with a comment of opinion. I wish you the best in your pursuit to find peace for whatever void has caused you your pain in life.
@@olliefoxx7165 so because you don't like the guy, that means the original poster shouldn't? that's not how life works pal, maybe when you get some real world experience you'll realize that
Imagine getting TKO’d by Lewis in a street fight, him going to prison as a result, and then watching him becoming a top HW contender all these years later. This guy tells that story to everyone he meets.
Derrick Lewis is my favorite fighter. Not just his fighting style either, although that's awesome. It's also how he's just hilarious and he doesn't need to do all of the fake trash talking to draw attention. He's the man.
All I need to see is his name on a card and I'm buying it I dont need to see no press conference no trash talk...I just want to hear his post fight interviews tho 😂
Derrick Lewis has been a favorite of mine for awhile now because he is real and down to earth. Very refreshing not like all the other fighters who play it up for teenagers who love that shit
When Derrick said, "My brother too ghetto". I don't think Joe fully understood wtf that means... I felt Derrick on a personal level when he said that. 😂😂😂😂
@@ashutosh998 i’ve dealt with this as well it basically means a lot of cursing, little to no etiquette, and outgoing attitude😂 if you don’t know someone like that on a personal level it can get obnoxious real fast
I went to high school with Derrick and he was always in trouble for fighting in and out of school. He was known for going to parties and fighting. I’m so proud to see him overcome his past and make a good living out of it.
When Joe is in the right mood he is perfect for a guy like Derrick. Compassionate, sincere and attentive which allows someone that is shy to thrive in an interview Derrick reminds me a lot of Michael Oher in all the best ways
I have never told someone over the internet I couldn't have said it better but you were able to explain in a couple sentences the essence of why this was so good. Well done.
@@jrf7204 so what what does that do for you other than make you not apreciate anything and just making you a spoiled brat , money isn’t everything and you don’t take anything with you when you die, but he’d rather sell his soul and get paid like most people so it’s what I just can’t watch how he’s a super leftist now
@@voyageeats1409 How is he selling his soul? He has earned the money he has. And if you dont want to provide the best for your kids then A. you don't have kids. or B. You're a pathetic father. You can give them good things and teach them value
Man Derrick is beautiful, he had a hard life but he was able to change the course and made a better life for his family. Now he's role model for his kids and many others. Good dude right there.
Yeah, just feel bad hearing about him buying cars for his family doing something good, and every single one of em sold it, even his mom. I don't know their situation, but it's hard to hear about them asking for more cash everyday after the fact. I like Derrick, he's the real deal, and it's terrible to hear stuff like that when you're genuinely trying your best to make the people that mean everything to you have a better life.....try their best to take advantage of you till you got nothing. I suspect he's cutting ties because he mentioned changing his phone number.. more than once.
I am thinking about dropping out of school to focus on my career as a star on RU-vid. I already make a lot of money on RU-vid. School bores me so much. I need more opinions and since I don't have any friends, I gotta ask you, bone
between ngannou and derrick, the inspiration they produce from their past alone is incredible. the American dream is still alive so long as you refuse to give up and refuse to let anyone block you. it might not happen on you first try or your first idea but it will happen so long as you are dedicated and focused. don't let people tell you that you are a victim...
Derrick Lewis is a gift to the world, and I think he gives back more than we take. Every time he has a microphone near him, good things happen. I don’t think I’ll ever be more excited than when he got the shit beaten out of him for most of a fight then he KO’s Volkov. Love him
Nur , Everytime? no absolutely never. it says in the bible every soul that gets thrown in the lake of fire may notenter heaven. but then again no one knows cuz no one has been there and back.
Derrick Lewis was out there in Hurricane Harvey picking people out of the water and getting them to the safest point he could find. He has never shit-talked. And trains his ass off for his career. I LOVE MMA. But besides everything I've seen in that cage, I think that Lewis' awesomeness outshines his knockout power. Hat's off Derrick Lewis. Proud to call you a fellow Texan. We've adopted you. Wish you nothing but the best in MMA and in life
I’ve been a ufc fan for decades and I didn’t like Derrick his first few fights because I didn’t like his attitude. Then I figured out his character and he’s probably one of my favorite fighters of all time. Such a good guy.
Damn. As a while guy that's 31 and not ghetto.... I would wish I could sit down with Lewis. Legit a GREAT dude. The fact he knows how to turn the ghetto off and on in the rigjt times is literally a skill that is highly undervalued
I wish this while interview was longer. Derrick is so genuine, I want to see him drunk thou cause there’s an even more hilarious side to him inside, you can tell he’s quite reserved upfront
Nicola Maxwell it looks like a giant microwave or tanning bed. Those weird panels on the wall mixed with the dark ass red lighting and lack of any personality makes it boring as fuck to look at
@@PlutoTheGod Agreed. I miss all the old stuff, don't think there's more than one mic there. Looks like crap, pretty tacky too. The old studio felt authentic and cosy 😊 This wasn't the best move, they can't even get a joint in there 😖
A lot of people get stuck in the system in an endless loop. They get parole or probation but can't meet the requirements of completing that sentence because they don't get help. They want you to get a job but no one wants to hire you. They want you to show up at meetings and rehab but you have no transportation. Derrick made it out, good for him. Awesome guy!
Having a felony makes it hard to get even a min wage job or decent housing. With so many options evaporated forever, it’s easy to fall back into a life of crime to survive.
Apparently, this happened when Lewis was in high school, and the person he assaulted was a KKK guy holding a shot gun and harassing people. But that guy didn’t get any jail time, just Lewis. Glad he has succeeded despite what happened, but that’s still f*cked up that he went to prison over something like that.
"At the age of 17, Lewis began training in boxing and was preparing for his first amateur fight when the gym unexpectedly shut down. Two weeks after graduating from high school, Lewis was charged with aggravated assault, and was placed on probation. Two years later, while attending Kilgore College on a full scholarship for football, Lewis violated his probation and was sentenced to five years in prison, but ended up serving three and a half" The Justice system is broken.
Or maybe don't bash people? Dont look for excuses for poor behaviour like the gym shut down. Like he didn't have a job to pay for his fines. Assault is illegal for a reason.
Derrick: My brother is short. He's like 5"10... Joe (thinking): Oh shit i'm just 5"8... Let me remind him of Cormier, so i can say that short people can be campions too 😥
@@sulaimaanlatif6471 i was surprised Derrick of all people said that when he doesn't do particularly well against 5'10 guys. Look at his fights with Mark Hunt and Daniel Cormier.
SO MUCH RESPECT for Derrick Lewis! Easily one of my favourite and most entertaining UFC fighter's on the planet; and as we just found out, also a great father and great person.
Derrick's brother seems to be the type of guy who would get millions of fans and be a UFC superstar if he actually learned martial arts and just be himself in the press-conferences.
