Thank you so much for sharing this. Just getting into this passion that has been in my heart since my 30’s. Finally during Covid at almost 60 now doing this. Just bought my Inktense. Bless you for posting up how to do backgrounds. What an inspiration you are.

This will be so beautiful when it’s done, you really are a master with inktense, it takes the patience you have acquired, very well. Thank you!

The second layer makes the difference and knowing when to wipe your brush. It explains why mine have been splotchy. I have only had my inktense about 6 months. Still learning but love the potential.

Hi hun, OMG I’m so pleased I’ve come across your videos. Your so talented and I’ve just got my full set of Inktense and I’m in love with them. I’ve only been colouring 6 months and I’m very new to intense and I’ve decided to use them in my copy of Ivy and Inky Butterfly - so your beginners videos are just what I’m after. I’ve been making notes on how you colour so then I can rewatch and follow when needed - I’ve been saving all your videos, so there all in 1 place. Thank You so much for your time making these videos - they are very much appreciated xx Cheers Nessa x

Nice tutorial. In your opinion which coloured pencil is best on top of Inktense? Prisma Premier or Polychromos?

How do you keep the pages from buckling? I’ve tried using my water pens in several different coloring books and it even buckles my Hannah karlzon pages!

Thanks. Are you letting the first layer dry completely before adding the second one?
@Saniheartcolours
@Saniheartcolours 5 лет назад
Thanks, Ann ❤️ sorry for the late reply. Yes, I always let it dry completely (that's why I'm all over the place), otherwise you'll damage the paper faster and can't add as many layers.

This looks so beautiful! I already saw this coloring on Instagram and it's great to see how you color it. May I ask which coloringbook you have? The UK version or the US version? I have the Dutch books from Johanna Basford and I'm not sure if they are suitable for coloring with water mediums. I just got my new inktense pencils yesterday and can't wait to give it a try!

Thank you, Jolanda. I have the German edition of secret garden. I colour with Inktense or watercolour pencils in all of my colouring books. Don't worry. Just make sure you don't use too much water and let the paper dry completely before you add another layer. It may happen if the paper is thinner that you can add less layers (maybe only 2-3), then just try to add all the colours you want with the dry pencils and blend them and after that activate with water.

@@Saniheartcolours thank you so much for your quick reply. Last week I tried with a little water in the UK version of Fantomorphia but that is totally ruined... the paper is really wobly or what is the word for it? Luckely it is my practise coloring book and I have another copy. But now I'm a bit scary to try Johanna basford because I don't have an extra copy of that one. The paper is thicker than Fantomorphia so perhaps I just give it a try. 😁

Very interesting technique. I have been using Inktense for a while now and cant get such smooth background like that. I notice that you use very small circles with the waterbrush to get an even coverage. Do you ever use the blocks for your background and use them like watercolors where you brush the block with your brush? Is that harder? The two layer thing was something you taught me for the background.
@Saniheartcolours
@Saniheartcolours 4 года назад
Hi Susan. I don't have the blocks but I use the pencils sometimes in that way, when I want to have a solid background (1 colour). It just takes away a lot of the pencils so I would recommend the blocks for this method. You need at least two layers to get a somehow smooth background. 3 - 4 would be better, but oh the patience that it requires :-D

It doesn't look like any ink is coming off the pencil (at the beginning). I'm not sure i understand... :) Thanks... p.s Absolutely love the tannish color leaf. beautiful!
@Saniheartcolours

It's a very light layer to make the colour transition to the next (lighter) colour smoother. But also I like to work with multiple light layers. The end result is smoother and you can create different colours, more depth etc. 💜
