Another enlightening segment, Atlas Obscura. I never thought about the “gamble” aspect of miners and how tenacious their work is. She a strong woman with a great family history.
I got to go to Coober Pedy with a church group when I was a little kid and stay in a dugout, in 1998ish. I had never really come to realize how unique it was till recently. Because I experienced it as like a 6 year ago I think I thought well of course there are other places in the world like this. I still have a little jar of opal from that trip. I also remember when I watched Priscilla as an adult. I just keep thinking OMG I been there!!!.
Read about this place in Readers Digest almost 40 years ago... Fascinated me as a kid, and I still dream of experiencing such a unique way of life. (I haven't grown up much)
Best of luck hitting the big one while you are young. You look great so the hard work has not had a negative impact on your appearance. Thanks for sharing. Be safe.
well said young lass, and best wishes for your future finds, its been a dam long time since i mined opal lol, but still love the stone, found many parcels spread out over the years though, never found that million dollar parcel though but pretty cool digging out ounces, last pacel was 42 ounces but only got 12k for it, needed the cash otherwise i would of held off selling it, ive never used anything except hand tools and nitro though was always scared cracking the bigger rocks, rather work slow and steady, will be heading into coober area next few weeks to give it another whirl, keep at it, it does actually pay off it many ways not just cash. cheers the hungarian
If they kick the miners out of Mintabee, whatever they can't take with them or sell they should destroy. All machinery & dwellings/houses they have built and destroy & fill in all the tunnels they have dug. So there is nothing left at all for anyone else to profit from.
