Descending Stories - Volumes 7 & 8 Discussion 

This is probably related to the symbolism of the candles: every year Japan has a holiday called Obon (or just Bon). Similar to Día de Muertos in Mexico, it's a festival centered around the spirits of dead ancestors. One of the main customs is every family hanging lanterns to welcome their ancestors back temporarily to the land of the living. At the end of the festival, these lanterns are sent down a river in order to guide the ancestral spirits back to the land of the dead.

The turn around was from last episode is crazy! Especially since allen said he wouldnt continue the anime after last episode.

I think the candle room is from the God of Death rakugo story (the one Yakumo VIII plays in the prison for Yotaro before the series starts). The God of Death takes the character there after the bed-swapping trick. The candles are the lifespans of all people, and by doing that trick the character swapped his candle/lifespan with that of his 'patient', and is now about to die.

Loved the twist like a lot prob one of my fav twists ever. Recontextualizes almost the entire series which was fascinating to me cause the episodes before the twist felt weird in structure but with that everything changed. Can't wait for the last discussion, I personally enjoyed the ending a lot!

Great series, it took me a little to get through the first episodes of the second season but it was worth it in the end, plus the cherry on top I get to hear you guys talk about it :D Did anyone else thought the story should just have started with Yakumo's and Sukeroku's part instead of introducing Yotaro and then having an extended flashback. I feel a "linear" storytelling would've been best, we could still have the reveal when MVP Matsuda tells the full story . Still, I really loved watching this and hearing your thoughts on it only makes it better.

This was really a twist done right; it recontextualizes so much that came before in a single instant.

I used to read that book out loud to kids years ago and I can still recite that long long name. 😂😂

The ending is great outside of one yikes thing. Maybe people are referring to that, and if so yeah. But outside of that one thing the ending is very good.
