The rest area that I had found to spend Christmas had kinda turned into home for a few days. The winds in the desert have been absolutely relentless, but I've made due as best I can. Even just from the highways, you can see ruins and remains scattered all through the desert here, but it's just not possible to go and explore them all. There were however a few that I definitely wanted to stop and see. It is becoming obvious just how much of a rookie I am in the desert, but I'll do my best to learn quickly. My first desert adventure was really a lot of fun. I could tell that it was probably an old mine sight all the way from the road, but I didn't expect to find all that I did. The tunnel through the mountain was sure a nice surprise, and a great testament to the hard work of the folks that came before. The higher into the mountains I got, the more I began to find. And not to mention the colours. The colour of the rocks here is just amazing and something totally new for me. After our desert adventure, and Lake Dolores Waterpark, I really had to find my way out of the wind, so I headed north. Regardless of the wind, I was going to be heading north to Death Valley anyways, hoping to secure a tour of Cerro Gordo. I have tried for nearly two weeks to get a hold of the folk at the ghost town, but I think they might be away for the holiday season. It was disappointing for sure, not getting to go up to the ghost town, but Death Valley is a stop I am so happy to have made. It is beautiful here, and full of history. It doesn't really matter where you go out here, there is some sort of history to be discovered, and that is my kind of place. My time at Keeler has been very enjoyable, even though it snowed, but I am ready and excited to continue our travels south.
I hope i didn't bore anyone with my ramble at the end, but it's important to me to thank my Patrons. You guys are the best!
