Yazd is located 270 km southeast of Esfahan and has a history of over 5,000 years, dating back to the time of the Median empire, when it was known as Issatis. The present city name, however, is derived from Yazdegerd I, a Sassanid ruler of Persia.
Because of generations of adaptations to its desert surroundings, Yazd has a unique Persian architecture and is one of the largest cities built almost entirely out of adobe. To deal with the extremely hot summers, many old buildings in Yazd have magnificent wind towers, and large underground areas. This is why the city is nicknamed the "City of Windcatchers“.
We used our time in the city to explore the best things to do in Yazd by focussing on attractions and spots that are interesting for younger travelers paired with important landmarks like the Jameh Mosque. But we also got to try typical dishes from the region and the famous Yazd sweets to show you the whole spectra of Persian cuisine.
This part of the trip was executed within 4 days - following I list all the places I visited & Things to do in Yazd:
- old town
- jameh mosque
- dowlat abad garden
- windtower in the dowlat abad garden
- art house cafe
- fooka restaurant
- cafe iraní
- silk road hotel
- talar restaurant
- amir chakhmaq complex
- dasht-e loot (loot desert)
This video is part of „Inside Iran“ - a documentary series introducing you to popular and unknown sights / things to do in Iran as well as the Persian cuisine and the super friendly locals we met on our trip from Tehran to Isfahan, Shiraz and Yazd. With this series I want to create a better understanding of the country and it’s people without focussing on politics or religion.

Pasargad ,and also you missed naghshe rostam . In Naghshe Rostam you can see four tombs and one building from Achaemenid dynasty with a group of ancient Iranian rock reliefs cut into the cliff, from Sassanid dynasty; the last important relief is from Elam dynasty and it dates back to 1000 BC

Hi. I am originally from Yazd. I love my hometown and I missed it a lot. Your video gave me goosebumps. I liked it a lot. Thank you so much for taking me to those nice places which I really enjoyed being there while I was living in Yazd.😊

Great presentation of Yazd. Thank you. My family are from Yazd. What you didn't mention is that there are also high mountains around Yazd like the famous Shir Kouh, and villages which are located in high altitude and they get a lot of snow in winter. Yazd, unlike its appearance is located in temporal climatic zone with 4 seasons and has cold winters with snow. Google "snow in Yazd" to view the photos. Now you may wonder how people live in rooms with open wind towers in winter when the temperatures are below zero! Well, they don't. All homes in the old city of Yazd have winter side and summer side. The wind towers are located on the summer side of the buildings.

Good video, and you seem to be getting along well with people. I must say this however, and I mean no harm, that your taste for good food is not good really. I live in Europe and I must say I tried many European countries and their confectinaries, sweets, cakes, etc, and have not yet found anything decent. Iran has some of the best of these things and they are much less satuarated with sugar. In your example in Yazd you were eating Baklava; Baklava is meant to be sweet and sugary , ideally made with honey. However there are a whole range of ther types with much less sugar than the European sweets. Also, lots of Iranian food are most likel.y from organic ingredient and they taste much better than what I get here in UK for example.

Thanks Steve. How do you arrange hotel bookings and car rental in Iran? Is there an alternative international money transfer or Cash is King?
@BackPackerSteve
@BackPackerSteve 6 лет назад
Usually, you reach out via EMail or you use a local agency to take care of this. In matters of money you need to bring everything in cash...there is also a card called "Mahan" card which is a fairly new way to pay cashless also tourists can use (check the website/community "See you in Iran" for more info!).
