At first glance, this seems like such a simple and sweet song to sing but holy crap it takes a special kind of voice to do this. The "down" is so challenging and so difficult and I think she did it amazingly. I saw her on tour and she was so good
I can't get past how much of Sara Bareilles' individual writing style is in the whole soundtrack. One of the reasons I fell in love with this musical so much.
This is one of the first time I actually HEARD the lyrics.. with Jessie I get hypnotized by her tone but she doesn't articulate that well. Desi does and gives a few diva riffs lol
I saw her on the national tour recently and she was so good! Her voice is stunning and she sang "she used to be mine" astonishingly. A lot of the clips on line of her don't do her justice, her facial expressions on stage are absolutely amazing. I think she's an excellent jenna
@@ak-zo5js Happened to see Sara in her Broadway debut in this role, maybe 3/30/17, was our first night in NYC and most of our very first Broadway show. Went with a HS theater class as one of the chaperones. To say we were all thoroughly blown away by the entire cast - several of which were under studies - would be understatement of the century. To see HS kids and us 5 parents & a teacher all equally geeked was a moment we won't soon forget. Sara was fantastic, as you recall, I'm sure. Totally amazing, the Entire cast, brilliant!
After watching this video, I had a few doubts about the casting choice, but I saw her a few weeks ago as Jenna and she was AMAZING (the whole cast was). Her rendition of "She Used to Be Mine" especially blew me away, just so much passion and emotion. Honestly.... she's become my favorite Jenna.
This is the best version I've heard and seen. She puts in the exact emotion I'm always expecting but never experiencing. I wish I had seen her in the musical itself.
The expressions in this woman’s face are incredible. She is so in character, just completely taken over by this. You can tell she loves doing this! I never saw her(I actually never seen Waitress) but I’ve heard this song and Opening Up- I love Sara Barellies and her music, it is just amazing
I love love love Desi. She’s so adorable and not only that, the quality of her voice is so delightful. Almost like a country singer at times. She 100% deserved this role
I love the way Desi's face is always showing us the inner life of her character. She is a wonderful performer and I hope we will see her in London again after she came to save the Waitress production back in January.
She has such a different take on it, and I really enjoy it! There's almost an angry touch to her line "how goddamn happy I am," and it's done in such a cool way!
i saw her in columbus and she KILLED it completely! especially since i heard that the day before, she had gotten sick and they had to call in her understudy (this what i heard). she didn’t talk besides a “hello” at stagedoor (she looked exhausted) but if she would of stayed i probably could have talked to her for hours.
I can not get over her facial expressions through out this performance! She is able to to really capture the mood and feeling of Jenna with just her facial and eye movements. That just really coveys so much emotion I could feel it. Best performance of this song - hands down.
i just saw her this weekend in new orleans, and she was PHENOMENAL!!! the whole show was absolute perfection and she was just amazing. the whole cast was wonderful
Just saw this in Fort Worth and Desi was absolutely fantastic. I wasn’t sure I would like her because I just love Jessie and she’ll always be my favorite, but Desi blew me away. She was different and made the character her own, which is what any professional should do. I laughed and cried, and was very moved by her performance.
Silbury Peakman How did she save it? What happened to it? I guess she’s filling in between Lucy Jones (who was incredible) who’s just taking a break and Sara B (who no doubt will be amazing) whose doing a 6 week stint. Love this girls voice as well though.
Adrian Norton lucie has been really ill for 4 weeks now I think so couldn’t go on and so we’re all the understudies. They had to cancel a couple shows. Then they flew desi over only planned for one week but lucie was still to ill to come back so she stayed up untill Sara arrived. X
What Baking Can Do Make it work Make it easy Make it clever, craft it into pieces Make it sweet Crimp the edges or make it sour and serve with lemon wedges Even doubt can be delicious And it washes off of all the dirty dishes When it's done I can smile It's on someone else's plate for a while I'll place it on display and then I'll slice and serve my worries away I can fix this I can twist it into sugar, butter covered pieces Never mind what's underneath it I have done it before I'll bake me a door to help me get through I learned that from you Mama, it's amazing what baking can do Make it up and surprise them Tell them all my secrets but disguise them So they dance on the tongue Of the very people that they're secrets from Make it soon, make it better Though better never lasts forever I'll make it small so it fits . . . . Even this . . . Even now . . . Even as the walls come tumbling down Even as I can't stop remembering how Every door we ever made, we never once walked out Something I never got the chance to ask her about So with flour on my hands I'll show them all how Goddamn happy I am Sugar, butter, flour Don't let me down! Let's see the next amazing thing baking does now
I saw the show opening night in Cleveland as well, as this past Saturday. Desi was absolutely amazing in the show. The only thing I would critique (only because its not to my taste) is her performance of She Used To Be Mine. She acts it more than the others, and as such while it is deeply affecting, I have gotten used to a more pure "sung" version. For reference, I did see it on Broadway during Sara's run, and loved every minute of that performance as well.
