Not Desi, but I went to Desi birthday party at a chuckie cheese or something like that once. It was what you might call a normal american party with all the games and pizza and what not; for the first part of the party it was mostly our friends there. But at some point, the entire family of my friend showed up and the party almost instantly turned into what I can only describe as a desi rave party. No electronic music, just Desi music and if I can recall correctly they had brought their own instruments as well. Pretty much they shut down Chuckie cheese and for like 3 hours it was just the party there doing their thing. Now I was about 7 at the time so I had never seen anything like it before but it was amazing. Like 30-40 people just dancing their asses off and having a great time. Easily one of my favorite childhood memories.

The worst part was the kid who’d always cry while blowing out the candles and having to redo the whole thing

On my 13th birthday, I had a party, but none of my friends came over. It was a huge family gathering, and it was primarily because my grandparents were heading back to India, and my parents wanted to introduce a bunch of relatives to them, so they invited pretty much every family member living in California. Even though I didn't seem to enjoy the party that much (literally no one to talk to), I did end up meeting a relative who was also a huge Star Wars fan, so we got along quite well.
