Paimon being the God of Preservation makes so much sense considering the similarities she has with March 7th along with the fact that Artemis and March 7th use bows as their weapon.

Cool video, loved the theory. One bit of critique though, I would talk a bit slower. It can get a little disorientating when someone has you on as background sound trying to multitask hearing you talk so fast.
AYE to my fellow AC: Oddeysey player, but i still thought Paimon is a complete character she can stop time, she is even feels like guiding traveler to other nation to solve calamity each region, and her design is actually space like in first demo. idk theory about her just very mixed at this point and need further reveal
There's a few times in the story where it's suggested that Paimon may end up on an opposing team, as an enemy. But of course, Paimon refutes the suggestion saying she would never turn on the traveler because they're best friends. But her desires may change as things happen and new information comes out.
i mean, paimon genuinly cares for us, in the times we fainted (raiden scene, navia vs gardameks scene) she never left our side and tried to wake us up in the face of danger, and when we got sucked up by the sand in apaeps domain, she tried her best pulling us out
Good question... I currently have no good answer to that due to how little information we have about both Paimon and The Sustainer. I highly doubt they are the same person tho. Perhaps sisters or from the same clan/group of gods... But not the exact same person.
Also if Paimon is the god of preservation, that’s probably why the traveler has been able to get off clean with so many attacks I think before she became who she was now she protected teyvat and the life forms in it but hers the twins the sustainer is the god of preservation and space so what if Paimon is the un corrupted part of her power that’s been lost
If you choose to go down that route, it's an extremely simplistic way to put it. It's way more complicated than that. Paimon doesn't protect the Traveler in the conventional manner you might initially think of. I'll delve into this in a future video instead of typing out an essay here... In fact, I already have several lined up on this topic.
Whatever theories we have right now, one thing for sure. Paimon, plays a big role and players calling her useless are baseless. She probably does more than we know or we believe and prolly one effect of the things she does in the background always resort to her being hungry all the time
Yes. I can't even watch people play the game anymore without the long drawn out whining about Paimon. I get them not liking her as a character, (Personally she's one of my favorite characters), but if everyone whined about their favorite character as much they'd be annoyed as well.
While I do agree that Paimon plays a big role in the overarching story, I don't think she knows any more than she tells us. She has a clear case of amnesia and even the demon Paimon is said to always tell the truth. That's further supported by the fact that Paimon is just... terrible at lying. She's just too obvious lol. Maybe her memories need to be unlocked, but I don't think she knows any more than we do about herself at the moment.

We've seen it before in at least two places: -On the upgraded design of the snowtomb starsilver -Literally on the door of the title screen, but reversed ( the top half is at the bottom of the door and the bottom half is at the top of the door) And the top half of the crown looks like a dragon, and is likely the symbol of the Monstadt Church(as seen on the back of Rosaria's head)
It's in the Cryo Ultimate is ready symbols (broken into two pieces). On blizzard Strayer in gold and silver, on the boat (trident shape on the bow deck, and winged diamond on the back of the boat) And of course, Lumine and Aethers chest ornaments.
I like the idea that Paimon could be one of the four shades or one of the moon sisters. I'm inclined to lean more towards the moon sisters however. More specifically, the moon sister of the abyss. Paimon's first appearance comes from being fished out of the lake, but she never has an issue with water after that. So what if she wasn't pulled out of the lake, but out of the abyss? After all, she has an incredible amount of knowledge of Teyvat, despite supposedly never setting foot in it herself. Information she could have incomplete knowledge of from whatever was ejected into the abyss from Irminsul. Or perhaps she gleaned information from its roots. But what about the other two moon sisters? If Paimon is the abyssal moon sister, surely there was one dedicated to Teyvat itself, and one to Celestia to match the whole motif. There's been a theory for a while now that Nabu Malikata, aka the Goddess of Flowers was also a moon sister. One who left the heavens and resided in Teyvat alongside King Deshret. So that takes care of the Teyvat moon sister. But who's the third moon sister? None other than the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles.
Paimon ended up in the lake because of a very strong wind flow that pulled her there. Before that, she lived on an island for some time, this is information from the beginning of Fontaine quest.
Wait, hold on. More support towards her being inspired by hecate might be related to the opening of the game. As you stated, she is known to be connected to "the realm below" which could easily refer to the abyss. The abyss being linked towards the sea. We fish paimon out of the sea. Furthermore, with her guiding persephone's mother into the underworld to meet with her again could have parallels to paimon guiding us to meet the abyss twin.
Love the video! I have seen a lot of Paimon theories but I don’t think any connected her with protection and preservation. Can’t wait for the rest of this series
i used to think paimon is the primordial one or istaroth but i think this theory makes a lot of sense, i think given her design and symbolism, you are defeintly right, she must be a moon sister or at th very least, a seelie like nabu malikata, i like to imagine the primordial one being some kind of eldritch horror like the aeons from hsr or sauron from LOTR, it would give them a whole new depth but if they are purely humanoid then it would make them preety boring

Interesting. As the "God" of preservation, it's perhaps her who teleport the traveler to a "respawn point" when the whole party is slain... The whole game always make me think to a dream. As if the traveler was comatose or in transe and wandering in his own inner mind world with Paimon, his imaginary friend throught differents nations and principles to find... illumination ? And so, being the traveler, primordial one/heavenly principles, Irminsul and the Abyss, all in one. The twin beeing his inconscious feminine or masculine part. pretty raw and wobbly with many incoherences, but I like it.
It really depends on the artist. Large companies usually commission freelancers to do their marketing artwork, especially for throwaway advertisement art or products. The slight variations in color could be primarily attributed to differences in art style. Also, even in-game, the color of Paimon's motifs is called Rose-Gold.
Dude this is really interesting but either lower the volume of the background music or talk slower because both at once makes for a rather confusing viewing experience. The extra clips were also louder than the rest of the video so it's not as a balanced, thank you for work!

I think you're off the mark on this one. As far as we know, almost everyone in Celestia is dead or 'demoted' like Zhongli. Paimon's biggest clues to her identity are the crown and the inverted triquetra on her chest. I think her own name is just a red herring and she's not actually called Paimon, hence the weird way in which she keeps introducing herself. From being called lavender melon to rainbow balloon, I think Phanes was mortally wounded and she entered the "egg shell" to restore herself, and the entity we know as Paimon is the newly hatched (another important word used in association with Paimon) Phanes, here to guide us through restoring both her and the Traveler's powers so they can fix Celestia and protect Teyvat. It's possible that she used her powers to free us from the Sustainer who has gone rogue, but because she didn't have much power yet, she fainted and fell into the lake, and I don't think it's mere chance that the Traveler managed to fish her out, there's definitely some higher connection between them, like it's been hinted at many times.
Too much headcanon in this comment imo. Paimon is HEAVILY associated with the Moon, while Phanes (if Phanes is the Primordial One) is a Greek God of Light (as in Sunlight) and Creation. Furthermore, we do not know if everyone in Celestia is dead... As far as we know from Fontaine's 4.1 and upcoming 4.2 Quests, it is the exact opposite. There is a King currently in the Heavens and Celestia is very much present... Just not very active in Teyvat. Paimon being the Primordial One doesn't make sense.
@@ShirouE While one could argue that the Sun is a Star and Stars are present in Paimon's design... I do agree with you, Paimon is much more likely a Moon Sister or someone related to the Moon Sisters rather than the Primordial One.
Recently (in the beginning of the 4.0 Archon Quests), Paimon actually told us about what happened before she met the Traveler (there are many details missing, but it's already really interesting): "Huh? Me!? Before Paimon ran into you, Paimon never ran into any trouble! At most, when she was super tired, Paimon got caught in some strange whirlpool and sucked out to sea! And even then, you fished Paimon out!" So she most definitely didn't fall into a lake, that's for sure. (Edit: added the source of the quote)
@@ShirouE You make the same mistake the video author makes, you're too hang up on real mythology and forget that the game is merely inspired by mythology, while having its own lore and its own story. Remember that the moons and the moon sisters were created by Phanes. Saying that Paimon is associated with the moon but has nothing to do with Phanes is like saying the holy spirit while being associated with Christianity has nothing to do with Yahweh. You completely misunderstood what Neuvillette said, him saying he wants to judge the Usurper doesn't mean he knows the whereabouts or current state of the Usurper. The only thing we know for certain is that Celestia has been radio-silent for a long time and that many of the entities associated with it either died or were exiled to Teyvat. Paimon being Phanes makes the most sense, she is at the center of the game world, and is guiding the Traveler(who represents us) through the world she made.

And even then, you fished Paimon out!" - That's actually very revealing, it clearly indicates that she indeed used too much power when creating a portal, likely to take the Traveler out of Celestia, and she lost control of the portal, which sent her into the water.
I have a theory about her that if true … gives Paimon a huge death flag at the end of our journey … “rainbow balloon floating in the air, and her string seems to extend upward, to somewhere above the sky itself...” this is what the Melusine Canotila tells us about Paimon. After some consideration I’ve come to the conclusion that Canotila is describing a Seelie, a Mini-Seelie to be exact. Seelies are a race of divine beings, a race of gods. They are able to produce children, this is apparent since Mini-Seelies are smaller than Seelies … they are children Seelies. Seelies who have yet to grow. Paimon has many oddities about her, in the Liyue Archon Quest, she’s able to handle the pressure of Osial despite the Milileth having issues against it, in Tighnari’s quest she’s able to handle the energies of the Ley Lines. In Inazuma Archon Quest, as we’re leaving the Raiden Shogun after defeating Signora, Ei starts releasing heavy amounts of Electro Energy, this causes even the Traveler to stop in their tracks a few times, however Paimon just marches right on. And somewhere during the Sumeru Archon Quest, it is mentioned that Paimon is also blessed with Dendro Energy (I forgot where, it might’ve not been in the Archon Quest, but it was in Sumeru.) and in the Mondstadt Archon Quest … Paimon gets absolutely frozen in a block of ice! This isn’t really mentioned much, Barbara says “I used my elemental powers to heal you”, however this feels directed to the Traveler alone, but it’s possible that Paimon was meant as well. This gives us two possibilities. 1) Paimon recovered from that Cryo attack all by herself and required no healing. 2) Paimon and Venti are gods, yet Venti can’t be healed by elemental powers, while Paimon can. #2 signifies a fundamental difference between Seelie Gods, and Celestial Gods, and this fundamental difference is shown to us again in Sumeru, when Dottore knocks out the Traveler and Paimon, but not Nahida. Ok so, Paimon is a Seelie Child, why would this give her a major death flag? The Goddess of Flowers answers this question for us. Of the countless Seelies we encounter, there are 5 (6, if there are any Hydro Seelies) variants. The Neutral Seelie we see all over Teyvat, the Electro/Dendro Seelies in their respective nations, and the Warming and Luminous Seelies in Dragonspine and Chasm. After taking a closer inspection at these Seelies, I’ve come to the realization that the Seelie race possesses the innate ability of manifestation, and after losing a majority of their powers, they’d still go as far as to self-manifest themselves if they so decided it needed to be done. The Warming Seelie and Luminous Seelie provide Warmth/Light in a place that lacks Warmth/Light. This is even confirmed in the description of the Warming Bottle, “Warming Seelie have evolved in response to the extreme change in temperature to give the comfort of warmth to those who seek it.” They didn’t evolve for their survival, they evolved for the survival of others. Even Nabu Malikata supports this, since she created Life in a place that lacks Life, and this is how she became a Dendro Seelie in the nation of Dendro. So, we know that Seelies can Manifest their powers for the sake of others, but not for the sake of themselves, or more exactly, they prefer to use their powers for the sake of others, even when reduced to a more weaker version. When the Seelie race lost their form, Nabu used her powers to keep her form, so … why did she end up dying? Simple, when Deshret became involved, she evolved her manifestation to provide him the information he sought, and after obtaining this information, her manifestation started to cease since their duty was accomplished. Now, to Paimon’s Death Flag. If my theory holds true, then Paimon is a Child Seelie, who used her powers of manifestation to keep her current form. But after meeting a certain Traveler, her manifestation obtained the task of guiding the Traveler through the continent of Teyvat, and when their Journey comes to an end, her task will be completed, and her manifestation will cease, along with her.

Interesting video! I'm not sure if I can make sense of everything but the thought process, inspirations and references are very interesting to me. Love how you start with Itto and come back to him at the end lol. On another note, you're speaking waaay too fast, maybe take a bit more time next time? Also the music is too loud and distracting at times. Other than that, it was very nice, thank you for making this video
