A thing about Optimus' design that really works is how they were able to incorporate the front of his alt mode into an abstract torso design. The windows give the illusion of muscular pecs and the grill resembles washboard abs. It makes him look like the strong warrior that he is without being too distracting as an integral piece of alt mode 'kibble' It works alot better than Ratchet's and Ironhides where their alt mode window sections jut out from their chests awkardly.
They designed Bumblebee that way because they wanted to make him look chubby and baby-like in order to emphasize the kiddy features in him. It's why he got so much air time and hung out with Spike a lot. They wanted the audience to identify with Bumblebee the most out of all the other Autobots.
Ayyyyyyy Cliffjumper! He's my favorite. Glad to see him get recognition. I agree with pretty much the whole list, but I'd bump up Hound and Wheeljack to your "good" tier, Snarl to "great", and Iron Hide and Ratchet to "fine". To each his own, of course.
Much like you, I was never a fan of the blue groin strap that goes up Optimus Prime’s back. Especially, since that's not how he looked in the original Marvel Comics run of The Transformers. Apart from that, Optimus Prime's design is solid. And he remains my favorite Transformer.
hauler isn't there because i was only ranking the robot mode designs, and hauler didn't have a robot mode and g1, only grapple and inferno did and they are season 2 designs so they are not in this video
