Thank you for this educational video. I loved this presentation. I’m selective on lighting and everything is on a dimmer switch so softening where you like. I think Its my absolute must have and a favorite and even the rope lights highlighting coffered ceilings with Venetian plaster in my last home we built with a little chandelier in The center on a dimmer 😂We just built a smaller retirement home in 2020 during Covid we just purchased pendant lanterns for over the island in the kitchen. Thank you for all the fabulous tips! I’m the only one I know besides you that removes the ugly containers and transfers into silver and glass for beauty.. it’s so very European and smart elegant living🏡🕊👑🥂💫🙌

Hi thanks for watching typically you want to light in layers if there is only one ceiling fixture and it is in the centre of the room you want to make sure that it is properly scaled for the size of the room. Next you want to add either sconces or picture lights, there are many plug-in Options as well as some fabulous remote controlled bulbs meaning you can now add sconces anywhere and then make sure to have either floor lamps or table lamps, these could be on the buffet in the dining room as well as on the side tables of the living room
One quick question, how far from the wall should pot lights be placed for overhead lighting? Also, how far apart should they generally be? I have heard 7ft is a good rule of thumb... is that correct?
Thanks for watching I generally do them 5 to 6 feet apart, it really just depends on the size of the room and the layout. As for how far from the wall there’s no magic number I take my cues from many factors in the room
This is a great instructional video. Would you ever consider re-editing it so that any examples you use are exact to what you show on the screen? The example you gave of determining the lumens needed for a particular room size did not match the example you showed on the screen. That made it hard to follow. Plus, the graphic could have been up a little longer - with a highlighted area of the most important info we should be focused on. There was a lot of pure text to weed through. Also, could you keep some of the charts and graphics up longer so we have time to take it all in. I ask this because this instruction was important, and I have never seen lighting explained with these technical details on any home design channels. Thank you!
